      I've got one, non suspension and I love it absolutely. I live in the desert and ride mostly dirt washboard roads

      The bike has issues but awd really fits for my needs. I spent $1725 to my door, gonna spend up to $5k on a full suspension bike, probably not from this company due to horrible customer service and technical support when I had an issue. I basically knew how to diagnose better than them...

      I use dual motor Lectric XP 2.0 in hilly area. Great errand runner that can climbs hills as fast as my Bafang mid drive bike. Imo severe hills are the only place dual hub motor makes much difference. The extra torque keeps the motors from getting lugged down to low rpm on the steep stuff so even though you are climbing much faster the motors are not straining as hard. Eats battery quick though. I carry 40 amp hours on the little Lectric and it probably weighs 90 pounds but dual motors have been worth it to me. It is just an errand runner though. The mid drive is much more fun if I just want to ride.

    I have the Defender S. After 18 months of use I can answer and confirm some of the comments in the review. For a braking mod all that is needed is to buy 203mm disks instead of using the 180mm stock disks. With brake caliper mount extentions, new pads _(replacing the pads is a good time to make the mod)_ and the disks, can all be purchased for under $100.
    As to you guys using the electrical tape for extra 'insurance" 12:20 holding in the internal battery. . . I do the same thing, I had the plate fall off, but used two modest strips of black ductape. I have low confidence in that tapered bolt securing the battery. Low level complaint.
    I also would MASSIVELY recommend the piggy-back 17Ah battery. There's ridiculous voltage sag with only the 14Ah battery on steep hills. Kind of shocked that wasn't addressed in the review. The great news is, that completely goes away with a piggy back battery.

      Thanks for sharing!
      We actually didn't notice any altered performance on hills. This one is still our best hill test performance to date. Totally get the plate too, it was something that we hope is addressed in future models.

      it can be a game changer on hills. It would be interesting to test in the snow

    What happened to the power wire for the front motor? It looks like its dangling when it should be secured to the forks and frame.

    I bought a defender S and it is like the "speed cycles" in the third movie release of Star Wars, on the forest world. I only wish that the throttle was tapered instead of off and on - it is like a blast off switch. I did change the latch, on the battery cover to a lock because that seemed to be an issue with other reviewers.

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  Рік тому

      Yeah the battery cover seems to be a common problem. Maybe reinforcing that, or switching the frame up to take the battery out from the side would be wise in the future.

    • @mikecaster4612
      @mikecaster4612 Рік тому

      @@ElectricBikeReport The solution is to lengthen the slide latch travel from 1/8 inch to 3/8 inch, so the tab goes above the frame lip more than 1/16 inch. Vibration makes the spring latch slip off the frame lip and the nice, smooth paint job reduces friction some. I put in a desk lock to totally replace the latch - the lock tab sticks up a half inch above the cover. It also is a second lock as the battery can be "shaken" off the lock tab with the cover off (or try riding with the cover off).

    Great review! Looks like a nice bike for hilly areas. I like the 19mph average up Hellhole. Brakes seem a little sketchy though as you mentioned. Not sure why they didn't just put Tektros on that heavy and powerful of a bike. The battery cover issue was actually the most concerning thing about this bike to me though. I would be disappointed while wrapping duct tape around my new bike. Makes me wonder if it looked like that particular battery cover was broken or defective, or if the problem seemed to be poor design of the cover instead.

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  2 роки тому

      Yeah the cover could have just been ours. It's hard to say. We did ride it really hard off road before it started falling out so it's entirely possible that it just gave way a bit after we went hard on it.

    • @mikecaster4612
      @mikecaster4612 Рік тому

      @@ElectricBikeReport No, bad design. Bought the Defender S and before I could ride one mile, to the corner mailbox, and my battery cover fell off. After the second time (the zip tie snapped) the cover fell off - I put an office desk lock on the cover. Actually, the rectangular hole in the frame binds with the cover lock plastic so, when there is vibration, the binding does not allow the latch to reseat.

    personal thoughts on dual hubbies are... better have a good fork. a triple flippy switch that's ergonomic. Should be able to separate motors or combine with either or the PAS/throttle.
    Having a 2000W geared rear hubby full suspension 21ah bike.. I'll say rarely is hill climbing going to be its strong suit.
    strong suit will be truly for very low traction flatlands or hills. whether that be wet leafy covered hillsides or South Georgia red clay.
    especially pulling a trailer with a big piggy.
    otherwise give me the Fat HS if same price is. concern.
    highly considering the Spectre S.
    ooo and the Dual motor bike with combined 34ah would absolutely be the ticket for deep back country...
    being triple drivetrain redundant and double power train redundant is awesome.

    Why no commuter like this? Rack and fenders and a 20 ah battery. People know it's not exactly legal "by law" but still want a bike with long range and this kind of power. I suppose we could try adding a good seat..rack and fenders and an extra battery ourselves.. But a turn key commuter general use street version would be definitely a great seller.

    This bike with excellent 750W hub motor and cadence sensor is above anything else for normal efficient riding. Motor enough small for efficiency on flat with only one motor and with two motors and 2-3 batteries excellent to pull trailer with 200-400 w solar panels if somebody wants less atention small petrol generator better option to charge batteries. Front motor pulling over edges and quick start with 2 motors in the city, and excellent uphill performance. The best option for normal riding for those not interested in jumping and demolition work, anyway offroad, beaches, salt, even without jumping very expensive rides.

    Just bought a bike from them and had a problem at 125 miles. Their customer service and tech service is very bad. I was about to drop $1500.00 on them to build a bike myself and I was plotting to buy this bike but they'll not get another dollar from me unless they grow up

  • @zeljkozerjavic7008
    @zeljkozerjavic7008 Рік тому

    Ideal for city riding with lot of fast starts stops and run over edges front motor pulls you over instead digg in , if want break heavy and heavy person upgrade breaks 203mm rotors.
    Good to wrap any battery for damping vibrations, bottom one even more pressure.
    I prefer wrap cables and bateries roughly not prety so bike less atractive to be stollen.
    Will buy with 2 bat and install 3rd one in parallel, then you can ride avg speed 35km/h for many hours. 500W ( 30-35km/h for 120kg person )over 5h -> 2500Wh.
    For full power needs 3 bat 50Ah plus capacity. 2 motors will pull 40A plus, total abuse of bat , heavy sagg of voltage lossess with I^2 , without 3 batteries no true performance.
    Normal use of battery 4-8Amax 10A continuous, max 15A for short time anything else means low performance, in range, power, efficiency. On small power still efficiency with only one motor ( what not possible any 1000W or bigger motor very inefficient on low power, if you pedal ( if you do not pedal, buy moped with much lower sitting position) and change gears what have to do with mid drive will overspeed any 1500W mid drive on roads hills. Standard 4" wide rims are on the edge of efficient and fast pedalling.

    another great video. HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE the EUNORAU defender s with racks,feneder kit, extra 17ah external battery+14ah main. or ecells supermonarch 1500 awd offroad? thx for any info

    You ride pas1 one motor no power issue, excellent efficiency, you can imagine 1500W single motor running on 120 to 300W??? Mostly far below 20% nominal power.
    You have to ride with 2 batteries.
    I ride pass1 goes up 30km/h not fixed to speed ! Have another bike 750W fat tyres excellent efficiency ( mid drive 1000W slim tyres 75km, fat tyres 750W hub 90km??) it going close fixed speed which drops up to 2km/h as battery get empty., with pedalling very hard move faster.
    This cadence software totally different pas1 goes 20 to 30km/h not sure there is no torque sensor so do not know what is going on. Front heavy bike but if you move 2nd and 3rd battery on the rear rack weight moves back. 2nd battery 17Ah has been hit by lock on suspension so holder HAS TO BE MOVED FULLY UP, OR PUT BATTERY ON REAR RACK TO CHANGE CENTER OF GRAVITY ON BETTER. With 2 batteries no deep discharge in practical terms battery should last forever, not 500or 1000cycles but 5000 to 10000.
    The same with hybrid car battery get multiple times charged discharged keep high motorcefficency and last much longer than el car, no deep discharge.
    2 batteries 120kg load easy 58 down wind 54km/h against wind.
    Up hil 35km/h , strong speed reach not going through gears. No vibrations ride 40 50 km/h for hours if no problem with wind and noise, for me the best 20 to 30km/h.
    Two wheels much better no feeling bending in frame and rear wheel when only one motor plus better traction, up hill excellent I just to switch to two motors instead one.
    Normally ride B front motor than rear except when bouth used mostly uphill or road.
    No need to ride above pass3.

    Sorry mate You did not test beast properly.
    This beast has 2 motors 2x750W continues 2x1200W peak, internal battery has continuos rating 20A, and 10 min rating 35A,
    But two motors requires min 30 probably 35A continuous and 45 min over 10 min what requires peak power of motors.
    Defender S has to be sold with 2 batteries and driven with 2 batteries, otherwise we are doing demolition of the battery with full throttle up to hill! So Ah and cycles will be reduced very fast if do not overheat and blow up ?
