Glad Fender went with stainless. It’s about time. I bought a Suhr last time because of the stainless frets. Now if we can get Paul to put them on more of the PRS guitars we’ll have something. I would say Gibson but we all know they are stuck in the past.
I had my Stratocaster 62 custom shop refretted with stainless steel frets and I couldn’t be happier, it’s PERFECT and to my ears the sounds is the same.
I’ll always equate stainless steel frets with Eddie Van Halen. He was a big advocate for them. Nice job by Fender. This new Ultra Luxe sounds really nice.
Definitely! Needs ebony to be like the original 90s ultras: ebony fretboard, locking sadddles, locking tuners, lsr nut, humbucker splitter switch, tone control, and a tremsetter.
It's genius move by Fender. Some big big Fender player will have one of those and support from Fender. I bet they sell well. That means the Ultra must be selling well.
Well! I got that Telecaster ULTRA LUXE WITH FLOYD ROSE and it is amazing! The play ability is a dream come true and the tone that it produces is beautiful. If anyone would like me to put a picture of it on here just let me know.
I have built several stratocasters with stainless steel frets, it's good that Fender is stretching their legs a little bit, Fender might also change next sizes a little bit versus having one style of neck on the Ultra Series
There is a 0% chance that fret metal "changes the tone" of any guitar. Case in point: the nut on your guitar is made of either plastic, bone or graphite, and your frets are nickel. Those are 2 radically different materials and yet open strings do not sound radically different to fretted ones. Try swapping out nuts from steel to plastic and you'll notice they sound *exactly* the same. A magnetic pickup will not detect a string "vibrating differently" because steel strings don't change their wave pattern based on the point of tension. It's called physics. Guitar players are just superstitious.
Being a Dr Z amplifier fanatic I love that Jack generally uses a Dr Z amp for most of his demos! There's just something about the build quality, the combination of tubes, transformers, speakes and cab wood and that really give those amplifiers that unique sound with that incredible gain structure! My current rig I run is a 2007 Dr A MAZ 18JR 2×10" that I swapped out 1 stock spkr for a 10" Celestion Gold alnico. The Matchless thing. I run that in stereo with a 2010 Tone King Imperial Mark 1 that I swapped the stock spkr for a 12" Celestion 50 watt Gold alnico! Talk about gravy of the Gods man! I swear, putting a Celestion alnico speaker in any amp is such an immediate upgrade in tone it's just mind-blowing! I highly recommend it!!!
I have a fairly rare beast. It's a 90-91 MIJ Strat that came stock with EMGs. Surf Green with a white guard. Two singles in the neck/middle and then a HB in the bridge that has a 10db push pull. The trem is a Kahler Floyd Rose locking with fine tuners. It has a maple neck, haven't measured the radius but it must be around 12. It is wider and much flatter than my 67 rosewood strat. Has jumbo frets and plays like a dream. I'll never part with it.
Ordered Ultra Luxe HSS Strat with maple neck two years ago it arrived today. Yes I have used EVH Striped Series so I know I like Stainless Steel frets. I really liked the EVH humbucker. The Floyd Rose with D-Tuna had to be set up with some effort. However the Ultra Luxe is straightforward Floyd Rose. Nice pickups. One reviewer said the Ultra Luxe Humbucker did not have a high enough output. Plug it into a Mesa Boogie Triple Crown 100 or a Mesa Boogie Flux Five pedal and lots of gain. The neck profile is nice. The contoured parts are okay. Some people don't like the painted headcap but if you want a traditional looking Strat, this ain't it. It is a modern guitar with modern features. It stands out from the crowd. It's bold and sensitive at the same time. It's got 22 frets. Never did like 21. Don't know why Eric Johnson would have 21 frets on his Strats. Ultra Luxe, very good, modern, pricey.
I could take it or leave it. I guess I’m more or a traditionalist when it comes to the guitars I use or modify. There’s a lot to be said for simplicity, I think all this gadgetry complicates what has always been the appeal. For me, the telecaster is the AK47 of guitars. It’s simple. Enough weight. Minimal working parts, reliably accurate, commands attention when it’s used right… shoots straight, and looks better when it’s a little weathered. There is definitely a market for this though. The next generation is finding it easier and easier to catch up with more innovative ways of doing things. They love the concept of these Swiss Army Guitars fender are introducing. .
I was able to get a Kirk Douglas SG early this year through Sweetwater, and when I was having second thoughts a week after receiving it, I almost sent it back to get the Ultra Luxe HSS Strat which is in Silverburst with a maple board. It was everything I ever really wanted, but that SG just kept calling back to me! Hopefully when these drop to the used market in the next year or two I'll be able to pick one up for much less that they are charging for a new one right now.

You know, Fender has a long history of using the Floyd. It's not a new development. They made lots of Floyd-equipped Starts in the late 80s and early 90s. And they've been available on the Player series for several years, and continue to be available today.
Hey Jack, you're an excellent player. I just bought the Mystic Black with the rosewood fingerboard, unfortunately I'm quite the novice when it comes to playing. Fender seems like where Gibson was a couple of years ago. A bit confused about how to move forward. 80’s retro and modern strats don’t seem to be the direction to me, but what do I know? These seem like a modded copy of a modded fender copy? IMHO Nice video though!
I will stick with my Jackson’s....I started out with a fender in 1985. They seem so BORING....I do like the telecaster though especially with the Floyd rose, I totally dig the black one. Only 3 camera angles…..I need at least 5 , how about from behind? This modern video editing drives me nuts! Just look at the camera and tell us about the guitars!!! Is that too difficult……rant over😎
Too little too late. Fender has other brands, like EVH & Charvel, that have done this for decades now. They sold more guitars last year than ever before, who are they trying to tap into here??
@@mikeaaron2819 no idea how they'd be uncomfortable they require less energy to bend. Try a high end guitar with stainless frets like a Music Man. maybe you just tried a budget guitar with sharper fret ends or a weird neck shape..
I'll never play on anything but stainless again. They never wear out and the bends just glide. I'll be re-fretting my PRS Custom 24 in stainless here soon.
Got three fantastic Eart guitars with same specs actually more including the compound radius and roasted neck for a total of $900 combined, minus the name the case and fancy colors . So long Fender.
Fender brand going after the shredder market! Will they steal sales from their other brands (Charvel, EVH, Jackson)? Or are they going after outside competitors; on low end Ibanez, Dean, ESP. On high end the entry level Suhr series. I think the shredders like the modern looks of the aforementioned brands and will think Fender isn’t edgy enough. Strange decision.

I will stick with my Jackson’s....I started out with a fender in 1985. They seem so BORING....I do like the telecaster though especially with the Floyd rose, I totally dig the black one. Pricing is around 2500.00 new...I don’t even own a fender anymore but I would buy that black tele...I have a couple of Gibson LP’s.
Only 3 camera angles…..I need at least 5 , how about from behind? This modern video editing drives me nuts! Just look at the camera and tell us about the guitars!!! Is that too difficult……rant over😎
i will get one right away if they have roasted maple necks
Oh my. Idk what I want to take home with me. That Tele or you. 😍
Too little too late.
Fender has other brands, like EVH & Charvel, that have done this for decades now. They sold more guitars last year than ever before, who are they trying to tap into here??
Dont belive --mm axis best with ss fret
Nope
The Strat sounds super thin
Probably the trash noiseless pickups, I dont know why they don't stick with cs 50s or true vintage 60s. Fenders too clean sound sterile and thin.
@@dingusfuzzklonnkt2755 a little video can not sound like it must be
I've played one and it didn't sound that thin.
That painted headstock... I doubt anyone likes them.... and I am going to pay extra for that? Only makes things much harder.
needs 24 frets, maybe fenner will wake up next year, they angle a humbucker in the bridge slot like charvel did in the day...
Ultra-expensive.
Not a fan of SS frets. They feel weird and sound different. Deal breaker for me. The Floyd being optional makes sense if that’s what some buyers want.
weird as in they feel like perfectly polished nickel frets at all times?
No not really. They have a strange uncomfortable feel to them. It’s something l for one can’t get used to enough to want to buy a guitar with them on.
I'll be re-fretting my PRS Custom 24 in stainless here soon.
if i want modern appointments on a fender, i would just get a charvel.. cheaper, better..
They own Charvel, in fact I have a white SoCal Style 2 on the way!
Shredders laugh at a 10-14 compound neck.
The Floyd Rose tele: not my cup of tea.
Nobody:
Not even a whisper:
Fender: Hey, I got an idea! Let's put Humbuckers and a Floyd Rose on a Tele!
Oh fuck!
Always hated painted headstocks.
Feels like Fender got FOMO and wanted to compete with their own Charvel brand.
At twice the price!
And the Harleys are a far better guitar than all the MIM stuff
Finally fender made an Ibanez Guitar!!!
Its far away from a fender tone!!
The Headstock... No thank you!!!
Really don't like colors on headstock
If only they would stop putting pencil thin necks on every regular production guitar.
It’s a charvel in sheep’s clothing
Hahaha I'm picking up what you're putting down brother lmao
I won’t be buying one. Thanks anyway.. 😂
Looks like a Fender. plays like a Fender. But costs Like a Gibson.
