    My best friend of 50 years gave me a Marlin 60 several years ago. He was a Vietnam vet and very gun savvy. I took it to the gun range and couldn't get more than 2 rounds before it jammed. I've disassembled it several times, found the nut of off the short screw for the trigger guard, cleaned it (i'm an amateur) put it back together and it still jammed. Thank you for this video, as I had a weak spring, and I made the adjustments as per your video. It shoots like a champ. Several people told me just to bag it and set it in the corner of my gun room before I made the repairs. Now I can enjoy this rifle..I will never sell it, as my buddy passed away last year. Your video is very easy to follow and your spot on with the details, again thank you!

    I had a Marlin 60 that jam more than 95%, I keep blaming on the ammo that does not have enough force to push back the bolt block (?) . I try every .22LR ammo types on the store but the problem still existed and I don't know what going on.
    After watch your video , I just do the 2 minutes penny and nickel trick, then brought the rifle to the range for testing, the problem just vanished in the thin air.
    If I watch your video before then I did not have to spent more than hundred of dollars on the ammo and the frustrating. Now I keep a penny and a nickel on my tool box for luck.
    Thanks again Arrowdodger .
    Folks, the only two words I can tell you are : IT'S WORKED.

    You.... Are..... A.... #$%&ing.... GOD!!!!! I have taken my marlin 60 to the gunsmith 5x now and everytime I brought it back it worked for 100 rounds and stopped..... I just put 500 rounds through it after this 2 minute trick. Words cannot truly describe how appreciative I am for you right now. Much love!!! I get to use the very first gun I owned again!!! No price on nostalgia lol I wish I could give you 1000 thumbs up

    Twice again, the nickel trick has worked beautifully for our rebuilt model 99 and also a Revelation rebuild, soon to be vault queens again. Carefully and lovingly restored by my son in law and me with KAT triggers from arrowdodger. both shot the center out of targets at 50 yards with no misfires in 100 rounds each. Thanks again arrowdodger.

    Thank you for the video! My Marlin 60 (over 35 years old) has been having some issues of late. It's put away for the winter. But I'll be taking it out before spring for a thorough cleaning and a tune up which will include your homemade gauges.

      Update - after the tune up last night took it to the range this afternoon just to check. About 75 rounds and ran like a top.

    I thought my model 60 was junk but this man breathed new life into my gun with this simple fix. It was jamming 3+ times on a magazine and after the fix it jammed on the first round an then flawless for at least 100 rounds. Thank you sir for your service. Good for us bad for gophers.

    Thank you for posting this. My dad gave me a model 60 for Christmas in 83 or 84. Several years later, I was a dumb kid and tried to disassemble it and throughly clean it. I had a gunsmith put it back together, but it started jamming. I came across another model 60 that had a broken firing pin and scavenged off it. After watching your video, I now have my original rifle back and have the parts ordered to restore the other one to shooting condition. Thanks again for the video.

    Thank you for this informative video. My wife’s Marlin 60 is now working again after following the coin procedure and adjusting the ejector pin. When she was a child, her and her dad would shoot that very riffle together. Her dad hasn’t been with us since 1995 and when she fired that riffle today a piece of heaven lightened her heart. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this video. I've inherited my father's old model 60 that hasn't been touched in 20 years. Took it apart and cleaned and oiled it and went to the range. Every casing got stuck after firing. It was a total waste of a trip.
    Hopefully with this new knowledge I can get it working again.

    When I had mine apart, I thought the wire was bent, so I straightened it all nice like....and you can guess the result lol! After examining the operation, I figured out how the thing worked and discovered my error. I guessed at the bend and got it to work, and I was proud of my accomplishment. Then I thought, hey, I'll see if they have a video about it, something most folks would do to start with. Anyway, I double checked my work from your video to confirm my adjustments and found it to be correct. Yes, I did learn a few thing's like don't screw with things until you research them. I was very impressed with you're video and you're skills! I especially took note of the proper way to reassemble the rifle so not to bend the spring. Thank you, well done!

    Thank you arrowdodger I really appreciate it when someone actually knows what they are doing when they post a do it yourself video. I watched several videos which seemed quite straightforward before taking the rifle apart and not one know it all said to lock the action back before assembling so I inadvertently mashed the ejection wire down and wasn't able to get the assembly to go into place after many attempts. Didn't know what else to try and then found your video, and it is a shame how many people followed the dumbies instructions and were unsuccessful in their good faith attempts at cleaning the rifle themselves and putting it back together. Suppose the dumbies posted videos were by Ruger 10/22 fans to make the Marlin model 60 look bad.

    Thanks for this video . I recently acquired a Glenfield 60 from the 70’s that wouldn’t eject at all after watching the video I seen that who ever owned it previous had actually installed the spring improperly and had it inside the feed well instead of up on top of it in the groove . Having never owned a 60 or ever dismantled one your video saved me a lot of starting at schematics for this gun . And now that everything is in its proper place and adjusted properly it runs like a champ .

    Thank you! I have been waiting for a Ruger 10/22 or a Marlin 60 and I just finally obtained one of these. It had not been used since the 1990's and it was jamming and I watched your video which helped me fix it right away. Outstanding! Thank you so much, I will now get a lot of use out of this rifle and so will my kids. We're rolling with the iron sights and our main goal is reliability. Thank you for the end of the video which explains how this happens as well, we'll be sure to keep an eye on this and prevent it from occurring again. Great little .22, love it!

    Wow! THANK YOU! This is exactly what was wrong with mine. I even had the exact same two-bend issue with my wire! I can tell ya, the bend is a perfect fit to the contours of the silver block the wire is against (don't know what it's called). I'm 100% certain I did this after trying to force the trigger assembly onto the bolt, without the bolt locked back. When you push hard enough you can get it back together, but then your bolt doesn't function. Your video helped me fix this, very easily, and now she's ready to go!
    THANK YOU!!!

    Adding to the usual comments here. Although, in this case the gun was brand new out of the box and cycled about 8 rounds before jamming. Then it jamming on every round and was grinding off the heads of the round. The ejector/lifter spring was the culprit! It was smashed down and way too far over towards the centerline. This saved me (and my boy) much frustration! The next time we go shooting we will have the fun we were supposed to! MUCH THANKS Arrowdodger for this video and all the expertise and help you provide on the forums.
    (P.S. She will even cycle subsonics where before, this out of box new gun wouldn't cycle a single d*mn round of anything.)

    I can't believe I found this video at this time. I picked up an old Glenfield model 60 at a gun show with the same problem. The extractor did it's job but it failed to eject the spent round. I didn't really know what to do but figured the ejector spring was not bent right. Just before I sat down and found this video I sent the rifle home with a friend who lives in the sticks to test fire it. If it still jams though I have the answer thanks to your video. Appreciate that.

    Hey man, Stuck at home thanks to the coronavirus lock-down of our ranges and learning so much from your vids. For years have been so hung up shooting my bolt Anschutz and 52D target rifles, totally disregarding the little 989 that my Dad bought for me in 1962. After trying it out a few months ago and laughing at the trigger pull and fact that it jammed (wouldn't eject) every few rounds, I put it back in the safe and that's where its stayed until now. Figured I'd get into some steel shoots for fun with this if my range ever opens...but can't really find anything in way of commercially available trigger and general upgrades, but see that there appear to be a lot of improvements without any specialized parts to speak of. Most vendors I contact don't know for sure what works in a pre-last shot hold open, mag fed 989. And I'd hate to start buying stuff that may and may not be right for this early model. Your vids are so informative and a real confidence booster..Thanks

Mine has been jamming recently, probably due to need for good cleaning. Now it has been intensively cleaned and lubricated to be ready for visit to home berm.

    I have to say a big Thank you to arrowdodger luvs marlins for this video. I have had this old Marlin 60 for probably over 30 yrs...I've hated on it for almost that long. As a kid, I can recall my older brother having a 22 also, and we'd go out with my Dad, and hunt or plink, or whatever. Mine ALWAYS jammed at reload and I was too young to think about it or investigate it. My brother's gun never had that problem (I don't know what model he had). For all these years, I hated that gun, and my disgust even transferred over to this caliber of firearm, in general. I wouldn't hear of buying another 22, and hadn't even fired one in over 25 yrs.
    Anyway, lately, I've been gearing up to introduce my young daughter to shooting, and 22 only made sense....but I still had this hang-up about my 22 rifle. But, being a bit more knowledgeable these days, I picked the old Marlin up again last weekend to took it to the range. It took all of about 30 seconds to get completely disgusted with it again due to the problems. But, this time, I was able to recognize the issue and I took to Google and UA-cam to solve my problem. Low, and behold: this video explained the issue perfectly. So, in about 3 minutes flat last night, I had my problem solved. Took it to range quickly this morning on my way into the office (I had to know if my 30+ year disdain for this gun was over), and viola! it worked perfectly!
    Thanks for turning around my appreciation for this gun, and even this caliber of firearm. It was so easy....
    Now, I want to throat punch my Father for not solving this when I was 12 yrs old. But, I wont' do that.

    I have one I bought in the late 70s. Jammed from the time I bought it unless I was using CCI or other high velocity ammo. Had taken it to a gun smith, but it still jammed. Watched your video, then took it down. Sure enough, the spring was too high. Adjusted it, and have fired a couple of magazines through it without jamming. Before, it wouldn't go through one without jamming. Going to test it more tomorrow.

    Bought a mod 60 at a gun show in Houston (the woodlands) last weekend. Beautiful gun but could tell it was fairly old (1987). $75. So what the heck I took a chance. Well I got it to the range today and had the failure to eject problem just as you described. My spring was flat against the metal and centered on top. So, it's almost 8pm here in Houston and I'm watching your video and fixin my ejector spring. I used your nickel/penny adjustment earlier, then went to the range with my daughter yesterday and fired 150 rounds through the 74 Marlin Glenfield. Not one jam up. Thank you, sir! It worked. The only issue I had with an older gun is charging the first bullet into the chamber. The bullet goes everywhere and had to be physically placed into the feed opening. I don't know what I am doing wrong; tilted the gun; made upright; fast and slow charging. Nothing worked except physical insertion of the round.

    • @arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758
      @arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758  7 років тому

      Thank you for the kind words! Slow charging is not good. Bring it back and let it slam shut. If that does not work, I think its time your Marlin got a new feed throat kit. Worn ones seem to aim the bullet too high to find the chamber.

    • @HIblue187
      @HIblue187 7 років тому

      ArrowDodger: the bullets don't enter the chamber when charging the first bullet.. I tried several times and the bullets pointed up each time in front of the chamber and jammed. Where can I find a feed throat assembly?

      You will want the feed-throat "kit". It consists of a feed-throat, lifter and lifter/ejector spring. Marlin, Brownells, Midway, Numrich's and eBay usually all have the kits. If kits are hard to find, you could buy the parts individually as well. You will also want a new recoil spring if you do not have a newer one already. If that 2 piece feed-throat you have now is separating, maybe you could peen the rivet a bit more to get it solid again?

      ArrowDodger: I took the gun apart tonight and there is no way I can disassemble the unit and put the "Kit" into this assembly piece. No tools of the trade. I will sell gun to the highest bidder. I'll go to a Marlin bolt action to make life easier. Thank you for all of your help.

      Hi Arrowdodger: could you assist me in reassembly of the coil in the photo? It popped out upon reassembly of the Model 75 Marlin. I will send photos via email. Thank you.

    sweet - thanks for posting - I just picked up an older Glenfield that is having some issues. Maybe this is one of the fixes before having to get a whole new feed throat. (But I saw you have a video on that also). Thank you, sir, for sharing your experience and your time!

    • @arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758

      Its a good feeling to get an older Glenfield running better than new.

    • @junckmailsucks10203

      Quick follow up question: does this still work (measurement wise) for the old style feed throat? I determined that the spring does look like it's been pressed downward, but it looks like it might be too much angle to get a penny worth towards the inside direction with the old style feed throat... haven't had a chance to test it yet though so, I may see how the adjustment I made works first then bend a little more when I get time to go to the range.
      thanks again.

      I would say Yes because the geometry underside of the breech bolt is the about the same where the ejector wire resides.

      awesome. that was an incredibly fast reply, by the way!!!
      I'll set it and try it out. I hadn't even put it back together yet since asking the question about an hour ago.

    I can't say enough good about Arrowdodger. He made my Model 60 a completely different gun with his KAT trigger mod. I shoot at paper.... a lot. So, it's more a data point than just an "air-ball".
    For me, that trigger ABSOLUTELY makes the rifle. Now, I checked this out and will never try to re-assemble after cleaning with the bolt closed.

  • @HIblue187
    @HIblue187 7 років тому +1

    Yes sir. It is a 2-piece throat but has no center groove like your 60 but is straight on the upper and lower sides. I wish I could send a picture to you which is like a 1000 words. I will have to adjust with your nickel/penny measurement method. The spring is currently flat against the throat.

    Thank you so much
    I got one on trade from a buddy
    He told me it didn’t eject
    I thought that it was a dirty chamber due to crunchy sound as slide went back
    Cleaned and re assembled
    Still didn’t cycle correctly
    This video had it fixed I’m minutes
    Now my buddy is a bit jealous when he heard it was the spring
    After asking
    Come to find out he smashed the spring because he disassembled and reassembled without pulling the slide back
    Lol
    Thanks arrow
    Now
    Can you show me why my
    Glenfield model 25 bolt action doesn’t eject??
    Apparently
    They are known for not ejecting
    And firing pin not being engaged whe the trigger is pulled

    First time to see your video. I've tried the nickle trick and the problem got worse. Now I have two 70s vintage Glenfield 60s that won't feed a single round. The round pops sideways just before it reaches the chamber no matter what ammo I try to run in it.

    • @arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758
      @arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758  5 років тому

      you need to install new feedthroat kits in both of them and then perform the nickel trick.

    Awesome video. Looks like you have done hundreds. Do you have any videos on the model 49 takedown. I cannot find anywhere and have to do a full takedown to an extremely dirty trigger group. Thank you

      Raymond Cotnoir , I have not messed with a 49 but I would not hesitate to. That probably needs new feed throat besides cleaning. I can help with that if you need it.
