    Bro i will tell u right now. U say ur not a welder…… but I’ve been a tig welder for 15 years. Watching ur videos, u do all the proper things of bevels to clean up corners etc…. This is my first video seeing from you and I def subscribed. You don’t give urself enough credit. I normally stop watching these kinds of videos cause people don’t do things properly. I need a work table vise badly. I’m looking forward to seeing some of ur other videos.

      @@benji-tb4vp That mean a ton! Thanks man. Although I don’t weld on the daily, I have been around welding most my life. I use to be a weld design engineer for mining equipment 😉haha

    Interesting project, and you did a nice job of presenting it. My only suggestion would be to use the Acme threaded rod (as you mentioned that you considered). A leadscrew and nut will last much longer in this application than the 60° threads used on the all-thread rod. A leadscrew will normally be a harder material, too.

      I am definitely second guessing my choice. Though I can get a nice clamp force, the number of turns to move the vise is exhausting. ACME would be nice…

    Great job! I would recommend when you make those mounting holes for your welding table maybe to space them a standard width of other welding tables that have three-quarter inch or 5/8 inch holes that are spaced I think about 2 inches on center.

    • @mooseworks
      @mooseworks  5 місяців тому

      In hindsight I definitely should have done that! I would like to add a hole pattern now, but those holes will need to be fixed👍 Great idea!

    I am about to build one very similar, and was thinking that paper as a shim, would be very stiff, yet will burn out during full welding......

    • @mooseworks
      @mooseworks  3 місяці тому

      Depends how the weld joint is set up. If welding will deform the plates down on the dynamic jaw, then it doesn’t matter if you can burn the paper away - it will still be essentially an interference fit.

    • @mooseworks
      @mooseworks  3 місяці тому

      But if you weld on the top side or reduce how much welding is done, the. If will probably work well👍

  • @wrenchbender01
    @wrenchbender01 2 місяці тому +1

    The only thing I would have done differently.
    I’d have used a coupling nut on the outside. Then slipped a deep well socket over and drilled through all of it for the handle. This would then also provide the square drive for the impact

    • @mooseworks
      @mooseworks  2 місяці тому

      @@wrenchbender01 that’s a great suggestion! I would have saved quite a bit of time if I thought of that. 👍

    Got any ideas for the swivel base? I've been thinking about it since I saw fireball tools come up with this design

    • @mooseworks
      @mooseworks  9 місяців тому

      I think I may leave it bolted. It feels super solid. I don’t love it on my table though. I’m thinking I am going to make a stand for it. What are you thinking for a swivel?

    • @christosvolikakis1523
      @christosvolikakis1523 5 місяців тому

      @@mooseworks I think a great design would be a magnetic base for the swivel part or even just a magnetic base for quick mounting on steel tables

    Hi Moose Works ~ My computer is a bit long in the tooth, so I can't get very good resolution, which makes resolving the text, for example, nearly impossible. Is there another way to get your drawings? In PDF form, perhaps? I'd be happy to pay you for them.
