Hiking in Joshua Tree National Park - The Porcupine Wash Trail / Ruby Lee Mill Site
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лют 2024
- In this video, I chronicle my hike of the Porcupine Wash Trail in the Joshua Tree National Park. Several miles counterclockwise on the Loop lies the Ruby Lee Mill Site. The Ruby Lee Mill was established in 1935. A stamp mill was used to crush ore in order to extract minerals. This mill was probably used to extract gold and silver. I hope you enjoy this video.

Calming and beautiful! Thanks Rev!
Thanks Jim. Come to California. We’ll play some golf. 😁
@@TheHikingRev if I ever get out to your area of CA you can count on me touching base with you and playing some golf. BTW, Happy Anniversary and a big one at that! Congratulations!
@@jimbray5882 Thanks.
Beautiful video, Rev. Good to see you out on the trail again! Blessings.
Thanks Ruth. 😁
Music choice is great. lovely scenery.
Thanks. 😁
Beautiful landscapes. Difficult to imagine the hard lifes those miners must have had.
That’s the truth Daniel. 😁
@@TheHikingRev Compared to only a couple of decades ago our lifes have become so incredibly comfortable. Nowadays we are so to speak desperately seeking physical challenges like hiking. In those days not one day passed by without serious physical activities.
Always happy to see a new hike with you Rev
Thanks. 😁
After 35 years of visiting, camping, and backpacking, i moved there. I couldn't ask for better neighbors. I love it!
Sounds great. 😁
Great job Rev, that mill site was something else. So much stuff still out there. Enjoy it!
Thanks. Hard to believe that site was almost a hundred years old. 😁
We visited Joshua Tree several years ago. Returning and exploring the area is on our bucket list. Currently exploring area around Totilla Flat, Az.
Sounds great. 😁
Thank you for sharing. Loved it! Your editing style gives me a sense of calm whilst I watch the video.
Thanks Gary.😁
I remember the Chollo cacti. Very scary plant. Great cinematography. Thank you.
You’re welcome. Someone told me one time that everything in the desert is pokey. I wholeheartedly agree.😁
Great to see you on the trai. Keep on keeping on. We are praying for you and yours.
Thank you Roland. I appreciate that.😁
That was so nice, really loved the music, very nice❤
Thanks. 😁
Loved watching this hike. The music is so relaxing. Thank you for sharing your hikes.
You’re quite welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😁
Our very first visit out West, we stopped by this beautiful national park. We hiked the arch rock trail out and back, such a beautiful, yet hostile place. My dad had a scary tumble up there on that rock, but he ended up okay with cuts, bruises and a broken rib. Wish we had more time to explore this park and the Mastodon trail.
Yes, it is very harsh and scary here in the desert. I’m glad your dad was OK.😁
Just saw the loop vid Rev. Been awhile since I dropped in. Lost my sweetheart n side kick of over 56 yrs.
Now back after a crazy empty four months. Watching your cool hike is a great pep up n diversion .. your do a top notch photo coverage.
I’ve bought a older Monty 17’er sailboat n entered the local Salish 100 fleet 100 mile event mid July. I’m hoping to get n maybe share some footage of that ( crossing my fingers 🤞🏼) ..
Cheers brother, Nick
My sincere condolences on your loss.
Thanks Nick. I’m so sorry for your loss. I know you miss them. 😁
Never give up, brother! 🌱⛵🌿
Nice calming relaxing video, thank you for doing all the work and hiking! Your filming and editing are fantastic Rev! Thank you for bringing me along!
You’re quite welcome Stephen. Thanks for coming along with me. 😁
Absolutely gorgeous work my friend, fantastic scenery and atmosphere!
Thank you. 😁
Glad to see you're out and about Rev. Thank you for another great video.
You’re quite welcome Stephanie. 😁
Thanks for sharing. As we age, if we share, others in our age group may get off the couch and ramble. While I post my favorite pictures from my travels on my FB page to a limited number of friends, you reach so many here! I may have to consider a wider audience here on UA-cam. You've got me thinking. Happy trails Rev!
Go for it! I’d subscribe to your channel. 😁
Great video! I used to love hiking in J Tree when I worked in LA.
It’s a great place to hike. 😁

You’re welcome Bill. 😁
Thsnkz for sharing ! ❤
You’re welcome. 😁
I love Joshua Tree! So many great hikes but I've never done this one before. Thanks for your video. I've never seen anything like the desert melon before.... it seems so out of place.
Hey Thomas. This trail is mainly hiking in a wash. 😁
Joshua Tree looks amazing, I regret only diving through it a few times going to 29 Palms.
It’s a great place to hike. A little dry and arid. 😁
@@TheHikingRev I was stationed at MCAS Yuma for a few years, I’m quite familiar with that. There’s some beautiful hiking in the Picacho State Recreation Area.
Hi Rev. Really beautiful trail. Pray you're doing well. Thanks for sharing your hike with us.
Thanks Judith. 😁
Great work Rev. Glad all is well!
Thanks Jim.😁
Enjoyed the video Rev. Great job!
Thanks Larry. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😁
Better February than July!
That’s the truth. 120 degrees in the summertime. 😁

Hey Rev! Longtime…no see. All nice to see you on trail again! Hope you didn’t get caught up in all that wet weather out your way! Head out to the east coast soon. Spring is in the air!
Sounds great Mary. I had to “hunker down” a few days to get out of the bad weather but I did get to hike some. I’m going to do the AT next year hopefully in the Spring. 😁
@@TheHikingRev Good for you! Let me know and I will shuttle you to Amicalolia Falls SP.
@@MaryTravels53 Thanks. Will do. 😁
Wow! Love the historic mine site. I was watching one of your other videos about your heart surgeries. How do you deal with higher elevation backpacking now as compared to before the stents? My dad is 70, has had a triple bypass, and really struggled the last trip we did in the Canadian Rockies that was at 6,000 ft.+.
I just have to take my time climbing. But I’ve not had any problems. I did have to reduce my Blood Pressure meds. It was zapping my strength. 😁
Rev I am 63 and not in good shape. I just moved tothe Ozarks and wish to just walk around a local uneven lake. BEING FROM Texas I actually fell and face planted!! I GOT up brushed off went a bit more. I moved from a very cold winter town and didn't use a gym only gentle exercise. My goal is to make it around this lake its a 4 mile trek. I am scared but, buying poles to help me. Broke my leg and also cant lft my leg up really high on the left. I have hike sneakers. Trying a bit mire again. this week hopefully in 6 months I can finished. pray!!! My husband is 68 with a quad bypass. He plays golf and feels great. I am so sad i didn't get moving after my 30s just no time after my work. Can i do this!!
Hey Kaylynn. Just take it slow and easy. And don’t hesitate to “pull the plug” if you don’t feel you can make it all the way. 😁
Appreciate walking with you ... for every hour of walking, What additional time is required to shoot the additional inserts for the video?
About 15 minutes. It took longer this time. I ran out of daylight. Hiked back to the car in the dark. 😳
I did not know about desert melons! Is foraging permitted there? Can you have one for lunch? 😊
They say they’re inedible. I don’t think I’m going to try. 😁
@@TheHikingRev uh oh! Good plan then!
What kind of hiking shoes do you wear, I've been buying the natural toe box shoes like the Altra temp 4, and the outroad 2, and experimenting with the Topo's as well!
I wear (and have worn for 6 years) the Altra Lone Peaks. 😁
