I was one of the lucky door gunners who survived to make it home after my tour. The Wop,Wop,Wop of the helicopter blades was the song of my youth. Those Hueys were either taking us into hell or bringing us out if it, sometimes the the deck was so covered in blood that we’d have to land in a shallow river just to wash it out, the Cherries we were transporting to their base LZs would puke up their C-RATS at the sight of it. As a combat veteran, I can tell you from experience, there is nothing glorious about war. SGT.
