I love the use of sound and music when Putman gives her candy. The scene itself looks innocent enough, and you could ALMOST believe that he tried to be good to her and respected her youth. Esther doesnt deserve to get out, after what she did to janine. Maybe janine will get out, if she does , she seems the type of person who will respond well to therapy
I agree to disagree. Esther is a 14 year-old girl who has been abused over and over, who was about to be handed to a pedo and had to hear Janine tell her how it was going to be the best experience of her life. I love Janine, but these weren’t the smartest things to say. They both deserve better. A life out of there, and karaoke.
@@nl-ho4wm she’s a literal child…. she may not be the best person but she dosent deserve the assault she suffered. no one does. how could you even say that anyone deserved to be in that position?
There is NO therapy in the world that would help anyone who was taken from family, abused and raped by multiple men many times when she was a child. She was so inspired by June and begged her to take her along because she knew what would happen to her next if she stayed there. Did you see the new episode where June sits in therapy? Even therapists don't know what they're supposed to do.
I feel like this is more people's faults than just Warren. Don't get me wrong, Warren is a psychopath and deserved what he got. But Aunt Lydia and Janine BOTH knew what he was and they both fought to get her placed in that home - which they didn't have to do. Lydia left her alone in the room with him, knowing what he drove Janine to. I think the reason Esther hit them both so hard is partially because deep down, they KNOW they each had a role to play in that.
She played roles with different kinds of characters. Some as main, some as side character. I knew her from the Bad Seed, then Ghostbusters Afterlife. Only then I found out she's in Annabelle comes home (I didn't want to watch the film at first, I was too scared for a horror movie, haha), Gifted (man, I cried in a scene when her uncle left her on foster home), I Tonya, some tv series, Troop Zero, that I can't get my hands on yet, and many other more.. She’s going to be his new handmaid- she’s 14, hence she’s able to bear a child, so she will now live with him and his wife and get r*ped every month until she bears them a child. He feeds her candy like that because he still sees her as a child, and is excited to sleep with her.
The candy symbolizes that he’s a pedophile. He knows she’s a kid, and he also knows she’ll be his and that he will impregnate her so it is power play. The framing and close up intends to show the contrast and age between them too, it was hard for me to watch that scene because it was so repulsive. It’s such a sadistic scene but brilliant storytelling.
Handmaids are not supposed to have sugar, cigarettes, etc (they go into greater detail in the book about this) because their job is for reproduction. And the commander is doing several things he is not supposed to do because he CAN do it, and no woman in the society of Gilead has any say, least of all the handmaids. Feeding her sugar, flirting with her, and being alone with a handmaid. All things forbidden. He does them because he can, whether he is supposed to or not.
I think Janine is sort of like a head girl in season 5 to the handmaids bc even tho she behaves herself she still has the fighting side to her so in other words she shows the other girls to lead by her example
When she was recaptured by Gilead after her escape to Chicago she begged Lydia not to make her a Handmaid again and be subjected to repeated rapes, not just the rapes, but having to keep giving up her babies. So Aunt Lydia is holding a place for her at the red center as a diversion and giving her a purpose there, but since she is fertile I can't imagine Gilead will allow her to remain there forever.
Yes and no. As far as the government is concerned, Janine is still an active Handmaid. But it would seem that the government doesn't supervise the Aunts in regards to when Handmaids are placed. So Aunt Lydia is keeping Janine in a "don't ask, don't tell" legal limbo, forever pending placement. It's great for her while it lasts, but eventually the other Aunts will notice, or the other Handmaids will get jealous, and someone will report the situation. Then whichever Commander is in charge of the area will amend the laws and give Aunts a timeline to adhere to about how long they can hold Handmaids for placement.
