I love this scene because it's one of many that really highlights how Aunt Lydia had justified and truly believed in her own twisted ways that this societal structure was the way to go. She's abusive for sure, but there's also a lot of grey area and nuance which is what this show does so well. In a messed up way, she does care about the women she's in charge of and i think this scene illustrates one of many moments where you see her faith in the system starting to unravel.

I feel like this is more people's faults than just Warren. Don't get me wrong, Warren is a psychopath and deserved what he got. But Aunt Lydia and Janine BOTH knew what he was and they both fought to get her placed in that home - which they didn't have to do. Lydia left her alone in the room with him, knowing what he drove Janine to. I think the reason Esther hit them both so hard is partially because deep down, they KNOW they each had a role to play in that.
