I agree on absolutely everything you said except for the part 'didn't care about the escape plan, only the target' since as you gather information on your target and location and review it before you go off to shank them you can make an extremely good plan of whom to assassinate first to get in and out easier, how to approach your target and equally how to piss back off again. be it scholars hanging out somewhere, an easy way onto the roof, an exact map of where guards are stationed so you can thin them out to make your escape easier, whatever. first time I played it I ended up making a plan around every area following it as long as possible and then adapting to the situation - making your own mission objectives is the thing that got me hooked on this game, I play it once a week at least xD also the more you help out citizens the more advantageous the city becomes for you - it's a really simple system but extremely effective imo -, scholars for you to hide among, and vigilantes holding up guards so you can get away and break line of sight as you escape slowly spreading over the city as you keep helping folks added a really nice touch I think. Each Templar kill influenced Altairs character growth throughout the course of the game, so inadvertently the Templars of old had a small part in forming the modern Brotherhood by making Altair question the old Creed.
I've gone back to playing the AC games and, as much as I love AC2 and Ezio, something about AC1 and Altaïr just made me appreciate that game and narrative alot more than before. Altaïr started off as an arrogant and bullheaded person, thinking he could do whatever he wanted, and that got the brotherhood in serious trouble to the point that Masyaff castle was attacked. Stripping Altaïr of his rank and forcing him to basically start from a novice is a great narrative tool to get the player to learn how to play the game and you follow Altaïr, listening to him go from someone who just wanted to get it over with, to someone who began to really consider what it was he was doing and whether or not he was in the wrong. While the cities of Damascus, Acre and Jerusalem are muted in terms of color, I always thought it was to showcase how bleak the atmosphere is due to the Crusades, as well as the poor districts. Also, AC1's soundtrack...damn man, it's amazing to listen to.
To be honest, I think AC1 looks better than AC2. I don't think the colors look washed at all. Each city has a different color filter, while Masyaf and the Kingdom have a neutral filter, making the locations looking and feeling different from each other. While AC2 does the same, with Venice being more blue and Florence more orange, I think it looked better on AC1, not to metion the fact that the attention to details in AC1 is bigger. Altair robes moves with the wind, each step creates dust that follows the same direction as the robes, the backgrounds for each city and map are bigger and have more of a grand feeling. In AC2 you don't have such details, and the backgrounds (Looking over the playable area) are simpler, less grand. Don't get me wrong, AC2 is still a beautiful game, the Venice Carnival looks amazing, the cities are vibrant and lively, but in my opinion AC1 is even prettier.
As much as I love AC2 you just can't beat the original, the original always hits different since for almost everyone that's where their wonderful AC journey began
As much as I love modern games you just can't beat the original videogame pong, the original pong always hits different since for almost everyone that's where their wonderful gamer journey began
For real tho AC1 has HORRIBLE pacing, meh voice acting, samey art design choices, clunky combat, which makes you puke, and it is terribly repetitive. I would go as much as to say it's not even an okay game.
Great! I only disagree about the combat, which I enjoy much more in AC1. AC2’s, despite having more features, always felt too slow and static to me. In AC1, you always have a way to kill enemies instantly if you time it right. Plus, there’s the awesome fact that you can also instant assassinate them if you pay attention to when they look scared or distracted. P.S. from the Italian in me: Florence and Firenze are the same city, man😂
He made AC1 sound like a really TERRIBLE game, but if anyone watching has not played AC1 I urge you to. The grittiness and philosophical bend to the game has never really been matched in the series since. Please give it a chance if you haven't yet.
Ok hear me out, I think AC1 was way better than AC2 While Ezio had a motivation which was more clear and relatable, I still liked Altair much more. Like you said, most of the times he doesn't even know why he's killing his targets, he just kills them because Al Mualim says so, BUT thats intentional, thats a major plot point in his story. Altair is a trained Assassin by birth. He was trained to follow his master's command without question, without doubt. Assassins were trained to not show emotion or fear death, but what makes Altair great is that even tho he is trained to be this elite killing machine, he still is human. Despite all his training, with each target who's life he takes, he feels doubt, he feels maybe they have some truth in their words, and sometimes, he feels guilt even. He goes from being this arrogant young egoistic Assassin to being a wise mentor who reformed the entire brotherhood not just because he learnt form his friends like Ezio, but he learnt from his enemies too, and most importantly he learnt from his failures and his orders failures. He was the one to question everything around him. And I LOVED the setting SOOO MUCH. The best part about this setting is that this is the only time period which we know of where assassins actually existed. Yes you heard me right, THE ASSASSIN WERE REAL. The game explains it as this was the time period where Assassins made themselves public. Also the crusades were such a diverse and interesting time period. Assassins, Saracens, Templars, Hospitallers, Teutonics... just a perfect setting for an Assassin's Creed game. I liked it way more than renaissance Italy but thats subjective And man, the music. It was so, SO GOOD. It felt like a weird mix of medieval and modern, with instruments you wouldn't really expect. with so many different cultural instruments and tones mixed to truly portray this diverse and strange world. The atmosphere too was great, it constantly felt like a science fiction game even tho it was based in history, the music just adds to it. This game felt so grounded and had a dark yet realistic tone, it felt like something that could have happened in real history. I feel like AC II felt more hollywood-ish However I do agree that some of the gameplay stuff in AC2 were better, but overall I just liked the story, feel and atmosphere of AC1 more. Keep in mind that all of this is just my opinion and I am not saying it is wrong to like AC II more, thanks for reading :)
I think it's wrong to compare two different type of stories when they are both 10/10. When it come to this i prefere to compare gameplay as that is easier to compare. ( of course if a story is worst than the other one you should use it to show the difference, however it's not the case in this 2 games)
I started and finished AC1 yesterday and it was tough to get through...I love these games but I haven't felt like rage quitting in so long. Tons of improvements in 2. Clearly the better game.
AC1 had the "vault" mechanic which none other games in the franchise had. Sadly, AC1 never introduced this mechanic, but it makes your parkour smoother and more engaging. In terms of parkour, I'd say that AC1 is better as it offers you more options.
same, i'll quote IGN a bit but AC1 truly makes me FEEL like an assassin searching for information (no minimap) and planning strikes. No other game does this or even comes moderately close.
@Sérgio Sérgio it was their first AC game and it released in 2007. If it released today for the first time I think it'd be a game I could call perfection.
Yeah you know what they say The first u play will be your favorite I played ac 2 first and no other game has gotten close to ac 2 in my favorites other than 4 but everyone likes 4 lol
Do you think it would be great if Ubisoft made a remaster of Assassin's Creed 1 but change completely the mission structure, create new better side missions and explain the targets Altair is sent to kill more properly. I really like the story and Altair's character but the game is totally ruined by the mission structure. Keep up the good work with the channel 👍!
If they were to remake the first game, the best change would be to remove the Animus entirely and keep it as the standalone assassin simulator it was originally meant to be.
Better to leave the game like this, why add more? its simplicity gives it charm, not like the other AC's where they have 300 missions and only 20 are from the creed. Nowadays everything has to be remasters and remakes
Why not see the repetitiveness in another way? It completely parts with Altaïr's cold personality and the fact that he only obeys orders, and that's it. He doesn't decide as Ezio do, simply because Altaïr is in a military-ranged organization (way of speaking when I say military-ranged), while Ezio is more a guy who follows the precepts of the creed rather than being an actual assassin.
Watching these old games just goes to show how far assassins creed has gone away from their original roots. So sad yet true. Hopefully they will make it great again like it used to.
Fair conclusion but I have to say, AC1's mission structure is repetitive intentionally, Altaïr doesn't want to do this all over again as we but Al Mualim makes him to recover his Master rank. That's one of the reasons I love AC1 so much and I feel like it's the most unique story-wise.
2 was what brought me into the series as a youngin but 1 was better anyday. 2 was a masterpiece but 1 was and will always be the purest assassins game. It was just “here’s your targets,be smart and be cautious” and Altair has my favorite character development out of any character in a video game. Even though he’s super humble and quiet most the time, but that’s more of a reason to like him to me
Sometimes I don't like AC1 coz of random spawning of npc guards from nowhere, otherwise my fav is AC1, yet I still love the Ezio Trilogy, but AC1 was directly related to Templars and Assassins. Moreover, Altair also had a sad story as Ezio.
In AC 2 you're the only assassin in the city. In AC 1 you're the assassin's leader. Plus, assassin's era is more related to Saladin and Richard the Lionheart.
AC1 was the only Assassin's Creed that was taken seriously. I don't think Ubisoft intended to make sequels to this game, and it looks like they put all their team skills into developing the game to make it as realistic and immersive as possible. I played AC1 on Xbox 360 when it first came out and it has been one of my greatest video game experiences ever, other ones are Medal of Honor Allied Assault on the PC and COD 4 Modern Warfare on the X360. Nobody mentions the fact that AC1 has an open world aesthetic. You start as an assassin that almost gets killed and then you get presented with a horse that you can ride from town to town and in between those town you had an open world where you found flags and kill hidden templars, the way Altair touched and walked through people felt more real since AC1 had bigger crowds, also AC1 had better cinematics than AC2. Overall AC1 was a masterpiece experience while AC2 was more of a filter that took AC1 idea and just made it smaller, simpler, and fun. Though I prefer AC1 it's more challenging and feels more realistic in every way.
It's impossible to say what game is my all time favorite game but I can safely say that AC2 is in the top 5 for me. Sadly AC1 is not but I still love that game too. And yes, AC2 probably has the best soundtrack ever made in a video game.
I love ac2 and it’s my favourite game so I’d say it’s better, but AC1 was the best assassin game ever created and can’t be topped because of the setting and real history behind the game, mainly because the assassins brotherhood was based of a real order of assassins, and it felt way more mysterious and the modern day won’t be topped by any new ac. The modern day ending in AC1 is probably one of the best ending in any game really making you look forward too ac2. I know I say I like ac2 more but ac1 has a special place in my heart haha.
When I walked into the prison cell at the end of ac1 too see all the writings on the wall, 8 year old me was searching all the internet too find explanation too what it ment. Don’t know what other game too do that too a small child.
Another great video dude, I enjoyed it greatly and I prefer AC2 also over AC1 but I love both games so much and may I suggest more ideas for new videos like AC3 vs. AC4, AC4 vs. AC Origins or even AC Brotherhood vs. AC Revelations because I would really like it if you make those videos because you really are a great content creator with Assassin's Creed! :D
In my opinion while the first game is still a 10 out of 10 and it has a quite a bit more Polish I connect more with the second game as I played that during my younger years of Childhood
Narration: Ezio has a heartwarming tone and presence Video: Ezio stabs the SHIT out of a guard :D On a serious note though, I'm curious, given the fact that several weeks ago I released an Assassin's Creed-focused breakdown myself, why do you consider Altair's character to be incomplete in AC1? What do you feel is missing? The core of his arc is complete - he starts not understanding the Creed and finished realizing what the Creed really means, which manifests in many different forms related to that: at first he is arrogant but then he becomes more humble, at first he rushes into action but then he makes sure to analyze the situation and consequences of his actions, at first he just listens to what he is told but then he thinks for himself (which is what helps him escape the actions of Al Mualim's betrayal in Masyaf). So what is missing from AC1 that in the context of that game in particular is not enough for you to feel like Altair is a complete character?
I havent finished Assassins creed 2, I just got to venice, but I feel like AC 1 just has a better story than 2, just cause I think, AC 1 was meant to be a tutorial and a pilot, which purpose is to show the game's appeal in both story and gameplay. If I started in AC 2 I probably wouldn't be that much invested in the story. But that's just me, cause WHEN TF DOES EZIO BECOME A PROPER ASSASSIN? I've played for 20+ hours and I haven't heard the Creed once. It's like, the game expected everyone to have played AC1
I actually like AC1 graphics more. I think objects look sharper and the ligthing adds to the overall feeling of the area and period. You can feel that there is a war going on. To me AC2 textures for some reason appear lower res and it also looks a little more "cartoonish". I also think that Ezio's robes in AC2 (and AC:B) look way too extravagant and out of place. It would be impossible to blend into crowd in them. The bright white hooded robe with bright red accessories would be seen from miles away. Especially since no one else on the streets is wearing anything even slightly resembling this attire. Also fighting moves in AC1 look more realistic in my opinion.
I have been bingeing your content recently. I'm really enjoying it!! I have only played AC 1 and 2 because on sale they're very cheap (I'm hopefully going to get Brotherhood and Revelations when they're on sale). I think AC2 is amazing. Really enjoying your content! Keep up your amazing work. I'll always be excited to see a new video from you!
As awesome as the soundtrack of AC2 was, I despise the fact that Ezio's Family is being remade into many renditions over and over again for the future games. It's Ezio's theme; not the Assassin's Creed theme. It must stick with Ezio and Ezio only.
I honestly feel like the stealth was partially downgraded from AC1, sure AC2 adds some neat gadgets which spice things up but it downgraded social stealth through crowd blending which is way less consistent than the crowd button AC1 had, making social stealth feel almost rng based sometimes leading to you not using it as much as you did in one, I also agree in theory that AC1 should give you more freedom with how you choose to approach but with how rigid that game's mission design is, I actually think you have less because if you try to be creative especially during the Assassinations, the game will just desynch you half the time for not doing exactly what it told you to do, where in AC1 most assassinations can be tackled in a variety of ways since the only objective the game cares about is if your target dies or not which leads to much more creativity in your approach, this is one of the major reasons I prefer AC1
Not biased reply but first game actually felt like assassin game That hidden castle of assassin on top of mountain ,only one way to get in and on other side there is sea, those assassin bureau, before every mission almualim sending message through birds to bureau, before every assassination first we need to collect info about target, thing I like most is we first see a cruelity of target ,suspecting targets by standing between the crowd and seeing the conversation of target and victim without being, exposed,if you run too fast you will ge exposed, after and before every mission almualim give us teaching like what we are doing and why,and also we gaining respect and rank in Assassin ,that training and marching parade in Assassin city is like yes only elites are trained here, Also the combat system is not one sided enemies are chalanging and total combat is manual not like new ac games just press e and left mouse button and target finished ,and also there is a complete path to travel to each city ,it's just amazing game ,amazing experience I played every assassin game but only acq give you feeling assassin An sneaky men that eliminates high profile target secretly , having. Mentor in a very hidden and well defended place planing every attack ,with pigeons used to send messages and new Assassins are training and parading it's just a super game
Some things that really bugged me about ac2. The fact you'd get notoriety for doing high profile kills even when bo one saw you do it. I didn't like how rigid the assassinations set pieces felt and that I couldn't get in and get out without going full high profile. The thing that really put me off was the busy work side stuff. I really couldn't care less about it. But being the ocd completionist that I am, I couldn't ignore it. I ended up platinuming the game on ps3 and was very much over the series by the end. I think I got halfway through brotherhood and called it quits. AC1, on the other hand, felt very focused. I100%ed it several times before ac2 came out. The repetitive nature of it is an issue but it's a lot easier to get done quickly in the first game. The assassination set pieces are a bit too rigid imo, but I've been able to figure out ways to handle all of them very cleanly. Also, you can rescue most of the citizens in each city by getting on the rooves and targeting from there. Keeps the streets from getting too crazy and keeps from attracting negative attention from guards. In fact, one of my favorite things about the 1st game is I've been able to do most of it without causing disturbances on the ground outside of a couple citizen rescues that just reset after you kill the guards on the rooftops and a few of the assassinations which force you to do things out in the open. In ac2 I remember _having_ to do way too much killing out in the open.
Assassin’s Creed 1 is the one that make you « feel » like an assassin, and I think no other games in the franchise come close to the immersions of assassination. But in terms of « game », Assassin’s Creed 2 is far above the first in almost every way.
I actually haven't played AC2. It's one of the only AC games that I haven't played before, but what y'all are saying about it is making me want to get it. I still don't think I'll prefer it to AC1, Since that has so much nostalgia from a simpler time, and the graphics were actually really good for 2007.
Black flag was my first assassin's creed game and my favourite but now I wish I'd played these also. I play on pc so I'm a bit put off by what you say about the controls and bad port. Interesting video and thumbs up from me.
I like AC1 much more. It's still one of my favorites in the series. AC1 is more difficult comparing to AC2. I don't like Ezio's character that much as most of you do. So I have to say that AC2 is overrated.
I'm looking at the comments section all people talking about is graphics this graphics that but what about gameplay and story? Smh graphics doesn't make a game good if the game doesn't have good gameplay and story
This video is prime example as to why you shouldnt compare any of the games to the original. Obviously all of the sequels are gonna be better in pretty much every way, but the original was the innovator, and none of the sequels would exist without it. You cant ask which one was better in this case because 2 is OBVIOUSLY better as a game, but 1 was original, and that deserves all the respect that any of the sequels got and then some for being the inspiration

I wish Ubisoft would have put the Cristina missions from ac brotherhood into ac2 as they are from ac2's timeline. That way ac2 would have been much cooler than before
If I didn't spend most of my first playthrough of AC1 doing all viewpoints and all optional quests, I might've liked it more than 2 By that point I'd been playing so much that I was getting a little tired of the repetition. AC1 is probably still my favorite in terms of aesthetic and tone That's kind of why I'd prefer maybe an HD re release rather than a remake
Of course AC2 is the better game. A more interesting video might've been which style of AC is the best (Ezio Trilogy, Kenway Arc, Unity/Syndicate, or the new rp style).
Kind of surprised how many ppl in here are saying ac 1 is better or they like it more because when these games first came out ac 1 had mixed reception and 2 was beloved and known to have been improved by so much between better setting, more gear, better story, better pacing, better main protagonist, more stuff to do etc… i could go on. Plus gained so many more fans for the ac series. So this is quite strange to see these results? 🤔 lol
It's because most of us were kids and we didn't understand the story of and nuance of one. Everything is more subtle and you have to pay attention. Now that I'm older I prefer it over 2
What shows that ezio matured along the games is that in ac2 you can taunt your enemies but then in brotherhood and revelations you can't which shows he matured along his journey
if we have to judge objectively the answer is simple and it's AC 2. As the game is a big improvement to the first game. However if we can judge with our emotions it becomes harder to chose as both games made history and will have a special place in our hearts. Resume: Objective POV for sure AC 2; Subjective: depends

@@Eretec It still manages to have better combat than AC2, though.

Ok hear me out, I think AC1 was way better than AC2
While Ezio had a motivation which was more clear and relatable, I still liked Altair much more.
I liked it way more than renaissance Italy but thats subjective
And man, the music.
I feel like AC II felt more hollywood-ish
However I do agree that some of the gameplay stuff in AC2 were better, but overall I just liked the story, feel and atmosphere of AC1 more. Keep in mind that all of this is just my opinion and I am not saying it is wrong to like AC II more, thanks for reading :)

Exactly you said everything I think of this game. A Masterpiece.
:)
I think it's wrong to compare two different type of stories when they are both 10/10. When it come to this i prefere to compare gameplay as that is easier to compare. ( of course if a story is worst than the other one you should use it to show the difference, however it's not the case in this 2 games)
Thank you for your comment. Its exactly what I wanted to say, when I saw this video
I started and finished AC1 yesterday and it was tough to get through...I love these games but I haven't felt like rage quitting in so long. Tons of improvements in 2. Clearly the better game.
@C man Man not for difficulty. Just jank and awkwardness that I take for granted being polished out of new games.

I like ac 1 only thing was that it was a bit repetitive. “Investigate, kill, get weapon, investigate, kill, get weapon”
@@Jamal-im5yu that's why a remake would be perfect
@Sérgio Sérgio it was their first AC game and it released in 2007. If it released today for the first time I think it'd be a game I could call perfection.

It could benefit from a remake, but hopefully they don't put the combat system from Origins-Valhalla, that thing is ass.

So your saying that ubisoft couldn't make a fun game, so they had to excuse the game being boring with a cliche story?
2 was what brought me into the series as a youngin but 1 was better anyday. 2 was a masterpiece but 1 was and will always be the purest assassins game. It was just “here’s your targets,be smart and be cautious” and Altair has my favorite character development out of any character in a video game. Even though he’s super humble and quiet most the time, but that’s more of a reason to like him to me
Wow hmmm this is really a hard choice... I think I would say Ac 2 because my favorite assassin Ezio is there BTW great video!!
Sometimes I don't like AC1 coz of random spawning of npc guards from nowhere, otherwise my fav is AC1, yet I still love the Ezio Trilogy, but AC1 was directly related to Templars and Assassins. Moreover, Altair also had a sad story as Ezio.

Ac2 is not a smaller game ac1 actually is
It's impossible to say what game is my all time favorite game but I can safely say that AC2 is in the top 5 for me. Sadly AC1 is not but I still love that game too.
And yes, AC2 probably has the best soundtrack ever made in a video game.
revelations best soundtrack I think that *Aaaaaaaaah* 😮💨with old wolf Ezio 🐺 just hits different
The graphics of ac1 are just unparalleled imo, they is a decade or something old,and they still hold up
Almost two decades

On a serious note though, I'm curious, given the fact that several weeks ago I released an Assassin's Creed-focused breakdown myself, why do you consider Altair's character to be incomplete in AC1?
Awesome Video Man, your channel deserves more subs!!!
As awesome as the soundtrack of AC2 was, I despise the fact that Ezio's Family is being remade into many renditions over and over again for the future games. It's Ezio's theme; not the Assassin's Creed theme. It must stick with Ezio and Ezio only.
Well it became the game's theme I agree it should have been only Ezio's...but that's what it is.....
Missed opportunity to have Altaïr come in at the end and say “What sorcery is this?”
The graphics in Assassin's Creed is so much better than Assassin's Creed II.
I agree im very disappointed playing for the first time. Ac1 looked like a completely different game
Not biased reply but first game actually felt like assassin game
That hidden castle of assassin on top of mountain ,only one way to get in and on other side there is sea, those assassin bureau, before every mission almualim sending message through birds to bureau, before every assassination first we need to collect info about target, thing I like most is we first see a cruelity of target ,suspecting targets by standing between the crowd and seeing the conversation of target and victim without being, exposed,if you run too fast you will ge exposed, after and before every mission almualim give us teaching like what we are doing and why,and also we gaining respect and rank in Assassin ,that training and marching parade in Assassin city is like yes only elites are trained here,
Also the combat system is not one sided enemies are chalanging and total combat is manual not like new ac games just press e and left mouse button and target finished
,and also there is a complete path to travel to each city ,it's just amazing game ,amazing experience
I played every assassin game but only acq give you feeling assassin
An sneaky men that eliminates high profile target secretly , having. Mentor in a very hidden and well defended place planing every attack ,with pigeons used to send messages and new Assassins are training and parading it's just a super game
Sad thing is ubisoft back then had lot of creativity and innovative ideas but not today's tech and resources ,now its opposite
If you are watching this get this assassin to 20k
AC1's combat straight up makes you feel like a badass once you can time all of the maneuver's correctly.
You definitely should ranked the assassins creed antagonist’s

This video is prime example as to why you shouldnt compare any of the games to the original. Obviously all of the sequels are gonna be better in pretty much every way, but the original was the innovator, and none of the sequels would exist without it. You cant ask which one was better in this case because 2 is OBVIOUSLY better as a game, but 1 was original, and that deserves all the respect that any of the sequels got and then some for being the inspiration

What shows that ezio matured along the games is that in ac2 you can taunt your enemies but then in brotherhood and revelations you can't which shows he matured along his journey
You can still taunt in Brotherhood.
Nice video, but I hate the fact you put Ezio from Brotherhood in the thumbnail when the video is about AC 2
Why is the footage from ACII at 0:53 so choppy?
if we have to judge objectively the answer is simple and it's AC 2. As the game is a big improvement to the first game. However if we can judge with our emotions it becomes harder to chose as both games made history and will have a special place in our hearts.
