one of the assets of large blades is being able to defeat your opponent before engaging them.. aggressive, intimidating demo (plus the blade looks nice and blurry with the camera).
i find shorter swords are more "fun" in terms of what you can do with them, easier to carry, and to use indoors/urban environments. intimidation does add a lot of value, depending on your opponents.

    我看了youtube上的单刀法选的视频,感觉这个人这里演示的不象是单刀法选上的刀法。单刀法选上的刀法有很浓厚的日本刀技法做为基础。这个人在这里舞得很热闹,但是确是很浓厚的中国武术的感觉,而且有些技法漏洞很大,比如刺击技术,很容易被敌人反制,其次,有弧线的刀的刺法和直刀的刺法是完全不同的,有弧线的刀的刺要顺着刀的弧线由自己丹田处斜线向上刺向敌人的喉咙,而且是借助自己脚步向前移动过程中,把手臂自然抬直就可以,而不是用蛮力向前突次刺,用蛮力向前猛扎反而不稳定也不准确,片中人侧身把手臂都开成一字,然后再猛力向前突刺的过程中还伴随着转身向前,几乎是没有防御的投怀送报,一旦刺的不准,而且这种可能性很大,基本上是把自己的整个身子和下段都暴露给了对手。这样的有破绽的例子在整个舞刀的过程中还有很多。所以我感觉这是个武术爱好者对“辛酉刀法”的演绎,而不是真正的“辛酉刀法”。欢迎有不同观点的朋友来讨论。

    不同意你的看法,传统武术中不管是器械还是拳脚,都有演法、练法和打法的区别,但是这些概念一般人并不清楚也无从分辨,毕竟我们离冷兵器时代很远了。看此段视频,我注意到了此人的重心始终保持中正,进击的时候人随刀走,但是从未失去对重心的掌控。苗刀长大,注意,他舞动的可不是常见的那种薄薄一片的武术刀片子,抖个手都能乱颤的那种,而是真正的双手钢刀,我估计十斤以上。这样的刀舞起来威力可不小,而且刀身长大,足以遮蔽全身,别看他舞的不是特别快,真对阵的时候别说找破绽,忙着挡避还来不及呢,而且威力完全足以碎人刀甲。结论,这是个有功夫的。

      拉倒吧,一看就不懂刀,他的刀净重估计1.5到2公斤,5公斤的刀他挥不动,也无意义,到不是刀片子。但是天下武功为快不破,真的要练实战,这速度不行,要只见刀光不见刀影。一防一攻,就带走一条命。

    • @DarkwarriorJ
      @DarkwarriorJ Рік тому +3

@@pervertt Current evidence suggests that the 'miaodao' itself doesn't date back far - its modern version dates to the 1920s (and is almost my ideal for perfect sword design - if only it had a false edge tip...). It was sometimes used in WWII, although the Dadao was more prevailent among those battlefields. Its ancestors, that is other long two-handed Chinese swords which inspired its creation, however, have a storied legacy. Its immediate ancestor is the bigger version of the Dandao, also known as the Changdao, of the Ming and Qing dynasties, themselves inspired by Japanese Odachi utilized by pirates of mixed Chinese, Japanese and Korean origin (wokou), likely all a fault of the Tsushima domain. The Ming and Qing took the idea, made an even bigger version of it, and copied techniques from Japan during this time (and of course, improved upon these techniques and designs)...
Because native Chinese two-handed swordsmanship had outright died out between the late Yuan and early Ming eras. It was a terrible cultural loss, because we know that in the Song, Tang, and Han eras, China had a vibrant culture of two-handed swordsmanship. Long two-handed swords began with the long jian of the Chu state during the late Warring States period, of which we now have unearthed countless archeological examples. These were originally not anti-cavalry weapons, but rather as elite infantry, duelist and civilian prestige weapons. The Han would generally prefer one-handed swords of considerable length, but those two handed swords continued into the Han era. At that time, a 'horse beheading jian' already existed, but evidence suggests it was not an anti-cavalry weapon, but rather a marker of quality. The anti-cavalry weapons of the Han was simply even more cavalry of their own!
In later dynasties, the dao replaced the jian as the main battlefield sword. It would be the Tang and Song dynasties that took 'horse beheading dao', or zhanmadao, literally. In the case of the Song in particular, they were massive, straight-edged cleavers meant to survive the heavily armored battlefields of the late Song era. The cavalry they faced were the jurchens and Mongols. The tactics were not straightforward, but can be boiled down to spearmen stopping the initial cavalry charge, crossbowmen continuously firing in support, and a mobile corps of Zhanmadao troops would rush out where enemy cavalry got bogged down and cut them down. It was the swords of this time period which were traded to and inspried Japanese swords and techniques (where they would build the best sword they could with their remarkably terrible sources of iron, and innovate on techniques as they descended into their own Warring States era...).
Edit: Here's another well researched source on the matter: chinesemartialstudies.com/2021/02/21/old-or-new-the-miaodao-and-invention-in-chinese-martial-arts/
I'm looking for the direct source on the use of Miaodao in WW2. I recall it was a certain subsect of nationalist troops charged with protecting China's artillery, but I can't find where in particular.

The first one offers some manual script based techniques and the second one demonstrates the proper way to draw the sword (in some parts of it). I hope this helps.

This weapon looks a lot like a Nodachi ! Are both the same ? And if not how do they differ from each other ?!

The Miaodao is largely straight, and is a relatively modern sword (1920s; was used by soldiers of the Republican army against the Japanese in WWII, although the Dadao was used more prominently). The Nodachi is curved, and dates back to the Sengoku Jidai of Japan, if not earlier. The Miaodao's direct ancestor, in both techniques and design, is the Dandao/Changdao of the Ming and Qing eras, an upscaled nodachi made of superior steels which was itself inspired by the Nodachi used by the Wokou of those times. The Nodachi itself was inspired off other Japanese swords of its time period, which ultimately trace their inspiration back to the Tang dynasty of China, which were once again straight and single-edged.
