    • My Adventure Book - Up...
no copyright infringement intended. The movie is not mine, the reactions are not mine, only the hard work, time, and dedication of putting this all together is mine. I wouldn't call myself a hero, cause what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man....

Viktor Frankl, the psychologist and Holocaust survivor who wrote “Man’s Search for Meaning,” tells the story of one of his patients who was an elderly man. The man was deeply depressed after his wife had died.
Frankl asked him if he thought she would have felt the same had he died. The man said instantly that she would have.
Frankl then asked him if he wished she was going through that grief now instead of him. The man said no, he wouldn’t wish his pain on her.
Frankl said that then this was his final gift to her.
The man’s depression lifted. Frankl’s theory was that the most fundamental drive people have is not for sex (as Freud thought) or power (as Adler thought) but for meaning. People can bear any suffering if they believe that suffering is meaningful.
Carl learned that his life was Ellie was her adventure, and that she found the meaning of her life in it. Carl found his meaning in that. Frankl would have approved.

If you take a moment to dry out your eyes, you will notice the change in colors after looking at the adventure book. Now he can see a brighter future since his weight of regret has been lifted. The following scene is also symbolic when let's go of everything to reach new heights. All he needed at the end was the Eli badge. Up will always be in my top ten movies. 100%.

I love it shows that Carl realized that his life with Ellie was an adventure in itself.

Way to bring a grown man to tears.

Gonna be real, I think this scene actually gets me more than the opening does now. It's just so damn perfect and gives you that lump in the throat the entire time. Carl's reactions are what sell it honestly. That tilt up as his eyes water is so devastating, as he thinks he never fulfilled his promise to Ellie to take them there, only to see the surprise and joy as he discovers that he was her adventure. The finale of this movie overall is incredible from here on out. Triumphant, sad, and satisfying all throughout.

I agree despite popular opinion. As good as the opening scene is, I always felt like that scene was more of a set up for this scene. This scene for me is the punchline, the real tear jerker.

      Same

    • @SliderFury1
      @SliderFury1 4 місяці тому +6

Same. The intro is amazing but it's also a fairly common experience, to just run out of time because life happens, and not get to "follow your dreams".
This scene though, where we "get it", and understand that the life you lived, whatever it turned out to be, IS your adventure, you can and probably did MAKE it your dream, is unfortunately not something everyone reaches. And that's what makes this scene so special. It took till near the end of his life but he finally did "get it" and that's a wonderfully beautiful and inspiring message.

"We feasted on love; every mode of it. Solemn and merry, romantic and realistic, sometimes as dramatic as a thunderstorm, sometimes comfortable and unemphatic as putting on your soft slippers. She was my pupil and my teacher, my subject and my sovereign, my trusty comrade, friends, shipmate, fellow-soldier. My mistress, but at the same time all that any man friend has ever been to me."
    - C. S. Lewis on his late wife, Joy Davidman Lewis

I think theres something beuatiful about "just turn to the next page!" The opening was amazing but this scene always, without fail, get's me to tear up!

Most people usually say they love the opening scene of this movie, but this is my favorite part. Sure, the emotional moments at the beginning are amazing, but it's even better when it comes full circle in this scene, in my opinion.
Up is, without a doubt, one of the greatest masterpieces ever made not only in movies, but in ANY artistic medium.

2:00 “Did he not know she added some pictures”
I like to think Carl has flipped thru the book hundreds of times but always stopped on “Stuff I’m Going to Do”. And in those hundreds of times, he never flipped to the next page because the pain was too much. The guilt and heartbreak that he was never able to fulfill her dreams before she passed. The sight of “what could’ve been” is just too unbearable, inciting a deep regret. Defeated once again, Carl attempts to close the book , until the page slips…

I'd say it once, but I'll say it again. That has to be the hardest and toughest thing losing with the person you love, and them going before you

You should do a compilation of reactions to the ending, especially the final scene, that final glimpse of the house. I saw this in theaters with my kids and believe me when I tell you I was pumping my fist at that part - it was so damn perfect.

Something so powerful is that in this scene the part where he needs to turn the page us powerful cause represents him moving on,turning the page to a bew beginning

The "thanks for the adventure, now go have a new one! Love, Ellie" Breaks me everytime, this is how much they loved each other, even if one of them isn't around anymore that doesn't mean Carl have to end the meaning of his life he can still make memories for himself.

I hate when people say "Oh, if you don't _[insert random human emotion here]_ for this _[insert random piece of media content here]_ you have NO SOUL".
That said, "Up" it's the exception to the rule.

When and how she asked 'does a love like this exist?' I broke a little. Cause honestly, yes it does exist. But it's made and there is NO shortcut. 10 years into marriage, I can't imagine how couples in their 6 decade anniversaries feel.

If you get the chance get a clip from the untouchables, the elevator scene or the shooting of malone, Sean Connery picked up an oscar for his performance and rightly so, the film had so many great performances all round it was hard to pick a scene there was so many, well worth the watch

@YoureMrLebowski another one of my favourite scenes, I remember denzel telling a Connery story a while back, they was both up for an award that night and denzel thought he had a good chance, they called up Sean, to announce the contenders and winner for a different film, he got a standing ovation that lasted about ten minutes straight and that's denzel knew he was gonna miss out! 😉
