  • Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, discusses urethral stricture disease, which is a medical condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is therefore important to understand urethral stricture disease. It is a narrowing of the urethra that can occur anywhere in the tube, causing difficulty in urination. Men are more commonly affected than women, and older men are at higher risk. Symptoms include difficulty starting urination, weak urine stream, and increased urgency to urinate. Diagnosis can be done through an examination of urinary flow or x-ray imaging. Treatment is challenging, and there is a high risk of relapse. Plastic reconstruction with buccal mucosa and urethral stents are available, but there are side effects. The hope for the future lies in advances in tissue engineering.

I'm living with urethral stricture for almost 18 years until it went bad last year and had internal urethrotome and it was temporary fix only. Reoccurred after 1 month and scheduled for urethroplasty on Nov this year. My stricture caused by urethral Catheter post perforated appendicitis surgery.

I've always believed I have this condition. I had a cystoscopy years ago which was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. In fact twice. Both consultants were totally dismissive of my pain and said it was imagined. It was so bad that I was green in the face after one procedure. My flow is terrible. I also have chronic proctalgia which was the reason for the cystoscopy. No successful treatment or even diagnosis after 35 years of suffering. After one of the cystoscopys my flow was better for a couple of days - once the pain had gone- and ejaculation improved but the changes were very short lived. I'm resigned to having it for my lifetime and it breaks my heart

Stricture is just one possibility. Maybe you want to have a look at this playlist to find out if anything sounds familiar:

I was diagnosed with urethral stricture during a urolift procedure. It is quite painful to have a cystoscope insertion, and my doctor had no solution to this problem.

I underwent bipolar enucleation of the prostate and meatal urethral reconstruction with buccal mucosa two months ago.
The prostate surgical results exceed my wildest expectations.
The stricture repair was less than stellar. I spray all over when urinating. My frenulum and meatus are sore and easily irritated by clothing. My mouth has scarring at the graft donor site.
What, if anything, can I do to prevent the stricture from recurring?

Thank you for this video. I have a question - What do you think about urethral sounding with metal sounding rods? Can they help?

I have a question relating somewhat to this issue. Have you done a video on weak bladder tissue/muscle? I’ve been diagnosed with this. My urologist says nothing else can be done medically to fix this and I may have to use catheters in the future.

So far I haven’t. Topics like these don’t sell on UA-cam. Like the current one on strictures. I will keep it in mind for future content, though.

It’s strange that all of the potential artificial, or semi artificial joints, organs, structures, etc haven’t really come to fruition and the , supposed, stem cell therapies seem to have come to nought?

The problem is: we are no longer talking artificial…
