  • This is a video made of a presentation to procurement graduates who are starting to study the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply's Diploma.
    It is designed to give some hints and tips for students who are studying CIPS exams on a self-study basis (i.e. not through a college).
    Disclaimer: The information given in this video is from my own personal experience as a CIPS student. It has not been officially endorsed by CIPS.

      Hi Ashish - best thing for you to do is go to the CIPS website (www.cips.org) and look up the information on there. There is a contact form for you to get in touch with CIPS directly, as they will be able to give you the best advice.

    Does CIPS Level 2 help in securing a job?

    • @joannetoon2376
      @joannetoon2376  24 дні тому

      Kia ora - This is a bit of an 'it depends' answer! It will depend on what the job market is like where you are, and what types of roles you are going for.
      It never hurts to have a relevant qualification, and CIPS Level 2 (the Procurement Certificate) is a good entry level point. It should give you a bit of a boost for entry level positions and to get you that starting experience :-)

    Hi - For Level 4 examination, does the 2 year period starts from the day you get your CIPS membership or both are independent of each other. Secondly, how long generally it takes to complete Level 4 with full dedication. Thirdly, is it wise to a) get the membership and access to past papers , subscription , books , reading material and then when confident go to book your exam date? Or is it that the various important accesses get unlocked only when you book your exam? Please advise.

    • @joannetoon2376
      @joannetoon2376  6 років тому +1

      NOTE - I am not an employee of CIPS (just a past student :-) ) For full details, please contact your local CIPS team for the most up to date information.
      Hi Ranjan, I'm not sure what the two year period you are referring to covers?
      In terms of how long it takes to complete Level 4, it depends on how much time you can commit to studying. One exam per exam session (international students: May, July and November - UK students also get January and March) is very doable if you are able to commit the time up front to studying the theory. If you are really confident, you can sit two exams in a session (so I did my Level 4 in a year with my first exam in May, and two exams in July and November; this did come at the expense of pretty much everything social for me!). I do know people who have sat three or even four exams per session, but that has varying degrees of success, and I'd recommend that you take your time, rather than trying to rush it.
      Absolutely - get your membership, which gives you access to the online materials (books etc. cost extra) - off the top of my head, I don't think that anything special gets unlocked when you book your exams. Do be aware of the exam bookings deadlines on the CIPS website - make sure that you don't miss the dates.

      Hi Giovanni - sorry for not replying promptly! (notifications got lost in my spam box...)
      In terms of how much time it takes, a lot of it depends on how quickly you learn and your approach to it. CIPS's study guide is set up for those who are getting lessons - they recommend 50 'guided learning' hours plus 70 hours of additional study per module. This is roughly the amount of time that I spent self-studying - i.e. about 100-120 hours per module.

      Hi - there's a lot of people who get into procurement 'sideways' - by taking relevant skills and experience from other roles. (I came with a sales background). Look at the transferable skills that you have developed through the first part of your career. These could be areas like relationship building and management, critical thinking and analysis, risk management, data analysis etc.
      When you are looking for roles, be very clear, particularly in your cover letter, how your transferable skills match the role that you are looking for. Don't expect a hiring manager to just work it out from your CV - you *have* to be explicit. Also be really clear why you are looking to move into procurement (and it helps to tailor it to the organisation, rather than generics) - when I'm hiring, it helps a lot if the person shows they want to be in procurement, rather than moving 'away' from an old role (it is really obvious if people are just sending the same CV and cover letter to a range of different types of jobs!)
      Doing some basic courses or qualifications can help, particularly if the market you are in is competitive.
      There's a really good article on Procurious around this: www.procurious.com/procurement-news/how-to-build-your-5-year-procurement-career-roadmap
      Good luck!
