  • Another Polaroid Week is upon us and what better time than to bust out my Mamiya RB67 and Rezivot Polaroid back. Polaroid Week has always been one of my favourite times of year, but it seems a little sweeter ever since I got my Rezivot conversion back that allows me to shoot Polaroid i-Type, 600, and SX-70 on my Mamiya RB67!
    In this video I visit a few locations along the banks of the St-Lawrence River and shoot some Polaroid Color 600 film, and Polaroid Black and White SX-70 film. I definitely enjoyed shooting these locations with a medium format camera, but I'm thinking I need to return soon with another format (wink wink)!
    I'll be posting photos from today's video throughout the week as part of Polaroid Week 2022, so feel free to drop by my Instagram page @jesshobbsphoto to see which ones made the cut!
    I also encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the celebration of all things Instant by grabbing an instant camera, whether it's Polaroid or Instax, and have some fun... and don't forget to share your results during Polaroid Week by using the hashtags!

    Never had a polaroid back for my RB67. I have a pack back for my 4x5 and still have some frozen polaroid pack film. Real color shifts on those as they are over 40 years old but frozen or refrigerated the whole time. I have a Lomo instax grafloc carrier for my 4x5 and that lets me shoot Fuji Instax wide film. Used to use the polaroid for test shots.

    Jesss! This has got to be the coolest, to be able to shoot through the RB!! I am wildly jealous! You got me super pumped for Pola week 2022 and I'll be going out to shoot my first shots today!!! Thank you for this!!

      Honestly, Suzanne, it really is the best feeling being able to shoot Polaroids on my RB! I'm so happy to hear you're participating in Polaroid Week, and I'm so excited to see what you create!

    Ah, stunning results, as always! I was hoping that you'd get a shot of that lighthouse in the first location. While I won't be able to get into Polaroid Week this fall, I do plan on getting into some action in the Spring!

      Thank you so much, Alex, I really appreciate that! I so badly wanted to get a photo of that lighthouse, but my lens just wasn't long enough... it would have been a speck in the middle of the frame! Oh well, I'll just have to go back!
      Can't wait to see what you do for the Spring edition!
      Thanks for watching! ❤️

    Nice piccies, Jess!!!😊 I'm a bit too busy to participate this year in Roid Week, but I'm also having some issues with my SQ6. S'pose I could get out with my lomograflok back and the 4x5, but I don't want to go lugging that around!! Not right now, at least. Will leave it till next year😊

    • @JessHobbs
      @JessHobbs  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Carl! Ooh, a Lomograflok back, I'm going to have to get myself one of those... even if I prefer Polaroids, Instax Wide can be a lot of fun to shoot too! That's too bad about the issues with your SQ6 though, hope you can get them sorted out. And don't worry about not participating this year, there's always next year!
      Thanks for watching! ❤️

    Unfortunately I was too busy and unispired to shoot on instant media but your video was the exact compensation. Loved it - as always.
    But how comes that the images are mirrored ? Is it because of the polaroid back attached to the RB ?

    • @JessHobbs
      @JessHobbs  Рік тому

      That's too bad you were too busy/uninspired, but there's always next year! Honestly, I almost didn't do anything this year, but inspiration struck at the last moment, so I went with it!
      The images are mirrored because Polaroid film is already a positive image. When you put film in an RB, the light hits the emulsion side of the film, but after developing it we look at it and scan it on the non-emulsion side so it's a proper image.
      In Polaroid cameras the mirror is used to reflect the light onto the film, which is why those ones come out properly. In the RB (or any other non-Polaroid camera), the mirror is used for viewing/focusing purposes, and lifts before the light hits the film. I really hope I'm making sense!
      Thanks for watching! ❤️

      @@JessHobbs yes, that makes totally sense, thank you. I had something like this in mind, but I know nearly nothing about the build of Polaroids. Great.

    nice 'soft focus' shots, dreamy, but how do you hand hold this heavy camera and get sharp shots; you need a tripod, for outdoors wouldn't a hasselblad 500, or mamiya 6/7/645 or a bronica SQ, ETR be a better, more ergonomic camera? and at least the Hassy 500 is polaroid compatable ('hasselblad the expert' channel with the aphiliate link to Johns' Hassy PB a polaroid back, which takes the still current instax Wide polaroid stock, and is worth a squiz at this channel)

    • @JessHobbs
      @JessHobbs  Рік тому

      The RB67 is surprisingly easy to handhold, its weight even helps to add stability. I use a tripod when shooting roll film, but find it much easier to shoot Polaroids handheld.
      Mamiya also made proper Polaroid backs at one point, for the peel-apart stuff though, which is no longer being made. When I saw a chance at shooting integral Polaroids, it was a no-brainer because Mamiya glass is some of the best out there.
      I personally prefer Polaroid over Instax, which was why I opted for the Polaroid back, although an Instax back has also been made for the RZ67 (which I don't like as much as the RB).
      The beautiful dreamy look comes from the film itself, which is part of what I love about it, and when combined with the sharpness of the Mamiya glass, creates unique images that no other combination can do.
      Thanks for watching!

    Honestly some beautiful shots, and love seeing your process however if I could make one comment it would be to not add such slow repetitive music to the video as it just makes it almost tiring to watch. All in all though Im glad the algorithm sent me your channel and wish you good luck on your photographic journey

    • @JessHobbs

      Thank you so much! Ah yes, the music... oddly enough one of the hardest parts of putting together a video! I don't like using the same song twice, and I like to maintain a vibe throughout each video, but I can totally understand your point as a viewer, thanks for the feedback!
