  • This week we gonna take the Mamiya RB67 to the mountains of Austria. We'll be exploring the Nordkette mountain range from the city of Innsbruck and I am going to have a look if I enjoy shooting with the ergonomics and functions of a waist level viewfinder.
    Film used:
    Kodak Portra 400
    Thanks for watching!

    I got my RB67 about six months after you posted this video. It's mine for life. Straps just require the correct connector (I've got a set, they weren't hard to find) and you can put a prism viewfinder on it (though it makes the camera even heavier), or a chimney for macro, harsh light, or if you're old enough to need bifocals (my metered prism has an adjustable diopter). Adding a "left hand grip" helps a lot, too; lets me take the weight and trigger the shutter with my left hand, while steadying and focusing, as well as cocking and advancing film with my right.
    Yes, it's heavy -- but that's just because it's big, and it has to be to mount that revolving back. BTW, I have a Mamiya 6x4.5 back for mine, and regularly use it with a Graflex 22 6x6 back and occasionally with a Graflex 23 6x9 cm back (camera produces 6x8 with that one). Very, very versatile camera.

    Love this one mate, I think overexposing the film really made the images! Looking forward to more of this :)

    Straps absolutely help, I have an op tech strap and you can press your wrist down into it as a brace ; it works really well. Admittedly the lugs are a bit odd and don’t allows for the strap to move fluidly. A definite aid to lugging it around though. Nice video btw

    I was travelling through Austria a couple of years ago before I started shooting film. The mountains were definitely something else, but you've done an amazing job capturing that larger-than-life feeling. Great shots!

    Beautiful images, the scenery is amazing! I hated the waist level finder on my RB but it feels so much more natural on a Hasselblad. The size and symmetrical frame size probably make it easier.

    • @mmh53
      @mmh53  5 років тому

      Thanks so much Joseph, yeah it's tricky but I think it becomes natural once you are used to it. But yes, the square format probably make it a bit more natural.

    That is why I went with the Bronica ETR when choosing my medium format camera, the portability of the Bronica is better than the bulky RZ or RB

    Which lens did you use?

    You still have your pentax 67 or did you sell it for the RB?

    • @mmh53
      @mmh53  5 років тому +1

      No I sold the pentax because I had the older version without the mirror lock up, but I would love to get a pentax 67 ii if I can find an affordable one :)
