The bird is an American Kestrel. They will nest about 20 to 30 off the ground in a pocket like hollow business sign with a protected entry, an odd gap in a building corner, or where an owl might nest in a tree. Sometimes when they're targeting their prey in thick grass, they will hover to get the correct impact in the short dive. They target small rodents, lizards, large insects, etc. I watched a pair two years in a row that had nested in a common business sign that had had a gap under the lower corner so they could sweep in under, and no ground predator could get to them. Very beautiful creatures!
The snake you caught was a gorgeous specimen of a cornsnake. Msybe 2 years old. If you catch another, consider adding it to your "pets" as there are thousands of cornsnake fans who would love to see it grow slongside the pond.
The American kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America. It's also known as the sparrow hawk, grasshopper hawk, and killy hawk. The American kestrel is about the size of a blue jay.
My favorite all time is watching bass hunt, especially BIG bass in packs!! Great footage, I even see this personally at Lakes and ponds I visited from time to time 🙂
I really look forward to watching these videos every 2 weeks. Such a break from normal life. It's always so relaxing and informative. Also do you still sell lures?
The birds that landed on the bird stand are American kestrel ❤ Amazing birds, they can be trained for falconry to deal with pesky starlings. They primarily eat bugs!
I always love learning to identify new birds. I'm fairly spoiled for bird diversity in Australia, so I tend not to know many American, European or African birds unique to the area.
The head coloration and markings are not that of an American Kestrel. They are of a Merlin Falcon. But an immature Kestrel would have this coloration too.
@@hifinsword merlin falcon could possibly be it, but the wing pattern didn't look that similar. It looked more resemblant to a juvenile kestral. I only mention that because I've hand reared a few. But if we see then more in sure we'll find out if the markings change. Both these birds prey on insects quite a bit. But the kestral are good at getting dragonflies in our area. Hopefully we see more of these birds in future videos!
I was going to say American kestrel! But i was beaten to the punch. I see a lot of them in Ca. They outlawed the use of certain chemicals, that were causing the grasshoppers and bugs they were eating,to make their egg shells weaker and break! They have made a good comeback here! In joy them.
I have never looked forward to a series as much as I do with this one. Been watching since beginning and still get excited every time I see a new one. Thank you for letting us all join and enjoy
One plant you might consider putting a little bit of near the pond is some milkweed. There's a few varieties native to Alabama, and they're great for bringing in some color, plus they're a magnet for monarch butterflies. Another great video! Always love to see these show up.
Better yet, where he can't grow grass and isn't a main fishing area, throw down some perennial wild flower seeds. They won't invade the pond or degrade the clay liner AND he'll have less grass to have to mow/fertilize/worry about. It will bring in the butterflies/hummingbirds/honey bees/etc. He'll have better crop yield with more bees Win win win win win win. Edit: I'm sure his daughter and wife will love the added color as well. 😁
You need rails around the eagle's nest. They won't build if they think it's going to all be blown away, that's why they build in the crotch of a tree, so that the limbs hold their hard work still in moderate winds. A flat platform won't hold loose limbs steady, which is what a nest is made of.
Throw a cast net super easy to catch them in a specially you know where all your trees and stuff are at that you set up for the bait fish so you won't get tangled up with the cast net
Dude...your pond project is WAY more cool then any motorcycle/minibike project i have! I am 50 now so I would gladly trade all my projects in for your pond! I truly LOVE and look forward to all of your updates on this project! So much work and it is paying off big time! Happy Sunday! Thank you for posting!
Love watching the bass..that was a corn snake and the bird looked like a kestrel. The wildlife cams are awesome. Great job on all your hard work Thanks for inviting us along
Been watching since day one. Every other Sunday evening, we end our weekend by sitting down as a family and watching BamaBass. Thanks for all the work you do.
Love this UA-cam series. I once lived in Alabama myself. Now I live in Mississippi. And I can say with the southern heat and the large size and amount of water in that pond, those bass will grow huge. And there is plenty of food in there. They will become bucket mouth before you know it.
You are correct, when bucks are in velvet their antlers are more sensitive, it helps them learn to clear low hanging branches while they are growing from what I understand.
That little bird that you don't know are called American Kestrels. They are the smallest falcon we have in the US, mainly eating grasshoppers (along with other bugs) and mice. Also they were eating dragon flies.
Get a empty juice, soda, or milk bottle/jug and put it where the baby bass are, they will swim in it. Works for me every time. You only need to wait an day or two.
I'm from Liverpool UK, been following you since day 1 of the pond, it's just great to see all the fish doing well, hope you and yours are doing well, I miss the ducks btw ;) x

Started out watching the channel because of the pond-build. Stayed around because of the wildlife-footage. And the fishing action. Keep up the good work buddy!
Bucks for sure fight with their feet while in velvet. They can sense that it will damage the antlers and know they need them for dominance during the rut. I've gotten several pictures over the years to support this. Love the series!
The bird are Kestrils, A small falcon like raptor that feed on insects, grasshoppers and sometimes small mammals and birds. Sometimes referred to as "Sparrow Hawks".
I absolutely love those opening clips of the bass tracking!!! Getting to watch them from the Birds Eye view and how they hunt and those blasting ATTACKS!!!! My goodness how do any little fish stand a chance??!? Man that’s so much fun to watch!!! I would definitely watch like a full hour long video of just that! Thank you guys for this channel, it’s amazing and continues to get better and better!
The little fish have a chance to escape because, like all predators, the bass sometimes miss. In this video I saw a bass try repeatedly to grab one baitfish but missed it 2 or 3 times.
For the fry bass, I'd try a regular minow catcher. Right size for them. It will catch other fish as well, but if correct bait is put in, should get a few small bass too.
Been watching since before Bonnie n Clyde had a backyard pond. Always stoked to see a new video. Much love, Godspeed and all the best to you and yours. Keep em coming!
I think the bird with the dragonfly is a Kestrel, Really impressive pics. Would like to know more about your setup of drones and cameras and tips and tricks.
Take a 2 liter bottle and cut the top off. Place a rock inside and sow the bottle top back on backwards. This creates a funnel for the small fish to swim into. Anchor to a branch and check once a day to see what you caught. My brother and I used to do this to catch small fish in the creek near our house. Could be a fun project for the kids!
Have been watching for a while now, and love when a new video pops into my Feed, great to see all the Wildlife attracted to the pond, and how the Fish are Growing, Bonny and Clyde are having a great time in there now the whole thing is like a Shot in the Arm, of Pure, Natural, relaxation, from start to finish
That eagle platform needs helped along. Consider putting sides on it and sticks and bedding to make it look inviting to the Eagles. There are many eagle channels on UA-cam to observe the nesting materials. 🤗
I am really enjoying the video's. It's funny, with the way you edit the video's I got the impression that you catch on almost every cast,. I had no idea that you can get half way around the pond before you catch something. It would be nice to see your statistics on casts vs. catch.
Hey BamaBass love the videos and to see the progress of the dam please add two or three of the prawns in with small bass in the tank. Would like to see them grow
Buzzards nest on the ground so you don't have to worry about them taking over the eagles nest. As for the two other birds, I'm not exactly sure but my best guess is they are sparrow hawks. Also, I wouldn't worry about the ospreys eating too many of your fish, most likely they are targeting the bait fish.
Corn snake, and the bird looked like a kestrel (sparrow hawk). Have you ever considered releasing some frogs in the pond? Not sure if it's a good idea or not. But it would mean another food source for the bass, and the amphibian population can use a boost, win win. Love these vids! Keep up the great work.
Those new birds are likely a mated pair of American Kestrels. Kestrels have that bobbing tail and are predominantly insectivores! Really cool birds, and unfortunately relatively on the decline due to pesticide use.
I mean this as a very high compliment. Being kinda older, you remind me of Carl Perkins. It was a show I really loved when I was younger. Your narrations are fantastic. It is very informative and has really peaked my interest in your ecosystem.
Hi bama im from the uk and in the uk we do a lot of carp fishing I honestly believe stocking a few carp may benefit your pond grately their spawn will be food for the bass and they will help keep clean the bottom of your pond and they make grate sport to catch thank you Zach 👍🏼

im from uk a fisherman and love fishing your pond is awsome and well maintained i wish uk ponds were like yours well cared for and well stocked great watching your videos and ty for being a natural animal lover ty
I wished so too. I have a friend who has a small farm pond and it is very undermaintained if maintained at all, so there's very little access to the water b/c of the banks being overgrown w/ weeds (many of them are thorny) and the pond itself has a ecosystem that is overrun by stupid carp. The bass population has been nowhere to be found the last few times that I've fished there, probably due to there being a lack of baitfish and that's probably b/c there aren't very many protected spots that could serve as a nursery for them when they're small and vulnerable.
@@KevinSorbo. He had crews working for weeks, renting heavy equipment, paying operators, several tons of clay, etc. Then after that built a cabin. That's material cost, plumbing, electrical, etc. If he had to buy the land for this that's a couple hundred thousand just to start. These things balloon like crazy. Why do you think nobody else does this?
@@KevinSorbo.he did a video on this. The pond construction alone was like $800k if I’m remembering correctly. Given how big his channel is I’m sure most if not all of that has come from add revenue and sponsors

I am going to LOVE seeing you throw anything on top water in the future. Especially a Buzz bait, or a pop r.
You're gonna have the only racoons in the county with type II diabetes. lol
🤣
By far the best video series ever!!! I wished we could get 2 videos a week 😆
5:00 elaphe guttata emoryi
Love it - when watching I feel like I get to be part of the experience.
I tapped so fast my phone fell
im from uk a fisherman and love fishing your pond is awsome and well maintained i wish uk ponds were like yours well cared for and well stocked great watching your videos and ty for being a natural animal lover ty
Im curious: How much has this beautiful adventure you've been undertaking cost you so far?
Definitely 7 figure
@@F0XD1Ethere is no way he's spent a million dollars... get real
@KevinSorbo. not cheap to build when he had to have 875 loads of clay trucked in,a well dug, fish stocked, hydro seeding, fish feeders, electronics, electric, cabin trucked in,fish tagging gun, extra small pond for bait, water treatments, it all adds up fast
Turning into a really great outdoor wildlife libary. maybe great place for College student to come and learn.
All snakes are good for rodent control, but I’m fairly certain that’s a rat snake. Edit: or corn snake. It’s not venomous.
Looks like a corn snake to me.
When they're copper heads and they're in my yard facing off with my chickens and coiling up under my feet they're even better for chicken food.
@@annietind262 yeah I think it is.
@@beebop9808 even venomous snakes have their place in the environment. Especially on a big farm like this, they eat lots of rodents.
I just love your videos Sir! A true Naturist and wildlife professional! Wishing you the best of success and prosperity to your lifestyle!
Hi, I live in Puerto Rico, Good Afternoon / was wondering do you use a plastic worm too
You could micro jig for them. I had a set of these super tiny, maybe 1/4 inch long jigs and it worked well for little bluegill and bass
