INCRA I-Box Jig - Finishing the Box

- I used the INCRA I-Box jig to create the box joints, and now I show you how I ended up finishing the box. I decided to round and taper the corners of the box. Then I added a top and bottom, and made custom trays for the interior. I finished up with a coat of dewaxed shellac and then four coats of lacquer.
This box is made from tiger maple, with splines made from padauk. The image in the thumbnail gives a preview of what the final box will look like. I don't take it quite that far this this video, but you will be able to see how I finish the box in my third and final video in this series.
I ran into a problem when applying the shellac with a brush because it is alcohol-based, and it caused the oils in the padauk to be released and bleed into the maple. I ended having to sand away that red color and then I reapplied the shellac using a sprayer to enable me to apply a very thin layer to prevent the padauk from bleeding into the maple.
