To unload, press on front tire bar, then pull red lever, leave bike rear tire as is. As the rear tire does not pivot, bike stays put. Easy peasy. I got the 3 bike release extension, and cut to my desired length, which works when adding 2 more trays as well, never need to then put a 3 or 4 extension on as 2 is enough. As to the movement, this is due to your car's low static weight hitch. My truck hitches are so much more robust even though they are both 2" as your car. IE my Lincoln Navigator can have a static load of 700lbs. Your rav4 is 150lbs static load capacity (different from towing capacity.)
Good vid. Every other review only highlights the positives of this rack. Glad you're letting people know what to expect after dropping over $800 on a bike rack.
Release the front tire arm first. This keeps the rear tire secure. I keep my left hand(depending on which way bike facing)on the wheel and push back on the rear arm at the same time. This way I always have a hand on the bike to prevent the issue. Hope this makes sense. Still working on a solution for the swaying myself with two ebikes.
Fun to see a negative review of this highly touted rack. I do think you would get a lot better at loading and unloading with some practice. I hear they also make an extension for the handle for tilting if i have the right product in mind. I'm not sure I would go fast over any speed bump with a bike rack but that looks like it needs a safety support strap attached. Also to use a ramp on heavy ebikes is quite a process and requires buying extra quick release parts.
User error top to bottom with this one. You just need to take a little extra time securing the rack and when unloading. I have 2 heavy ebikes (almost 60lbs each) and have never had issues. Changing between rack positions take practice but becomes very easy. My 8 year old son does it without issue.
you might want to try carrying it a bit off center so the back wheel is more covered by the arms. It will stabilize the bike. I also use some bungees just for extra stability and as a small redundancy for when I drive with it.
Its easy to load and unload, you just don't know how to do it. You raise one bar almost into place, then set the bike in the channel and roll the tire into the bar that holds the tire. The bike will rest there just fine. Then you raise the other bar over the other tire and and a final push of the first bar and the bike is secure. Reverse to unload. Let one bar hold the bike while you push the other out of the way. Then roll the bike out of the bar and unload. Also, I have to say with my double bike 1up rack loaded, the bikes barely wiggle at all going over bumps in the road. I absolutely love mine.
You know the world was a better place when we could dis agree on things and still be friends. The rack is not easy load and unload the levers get stuck. 2 e-bikes on it it was all of the place. Watch the bikes in the video don’t be a internet Karen.
@@OtterMTBtech Obviously you cant take constructive criticism. Do what you want and post what you wish. I use a double and I've provided a decent description of how to load and unload. If it were me, and you are not, I would learn how to use it before posting a video. Yours truly, I K.
I have one of these racks. loading it is easy . I have no issue and my Ebike weighs 76 pounds. I tighten the screw with the Gold Key And everything is secure. I have several speed bumps in my complex that I go over with no problem at all. I do load it differently than you do. Other people on this thread, do it the way I do too and it works fine for them.
Did you tighten the gold bar knob to lock the black bar in place? I usually don't do this on my bikes since I'm not hauling around 50+ pound e-bikes, but if I go for a long drive, or on bumpy roads, I lock the rack down. It makes a big difference, and from the way your rack was bouncing in the video, it looked like you hadn't done that. Here's what the instructions say, "Once Black Bar is engaged, tighten Gold Bar Knob against Black Bar to lock in place. Warning: Failure to follow above instructions may cause severe damage to bikes and/or bike rack."
@@iangarcia2452I just put this rack on my Mazda 3. I'm using a 1.25" to 2" adapter, so it should be worst case scenario. I only had a chance to test with one bike tonight. But up to 55mph with some decent bumps, no sway. Just some high frequency jostling as expected. My bike is a XXL full suspension 35lb 52" wheelbase beast. Not an e bike. But I think if it was going to do the above, I'd have noticed. So, use your judgment. This rack seems pretty awesome to me.
I was looking at 1up to replace my old Saris SuperClamp 4. Wanted something lighter than the Saris 70lbs rack because I'm usually transporting 1 ebike 90% of the time. Ended up placing an order for QuikrStuff Mach2 modular bike rack that looks like a version 2 of the 1up.
Ehhh…I blame a lot of the issues you had on new consumer user error. Other videos show unloading the front tire before the back to keep the bike stable. Driving- “Not stable at all”? You’re literally racing over speed bumps. 😂. I’ll buy one in spite of your video. The other 50 video reviews love it. I’ll slow down for the speed bumps. 😉 Cheers!
Have the same rack and it is 100% opposite of this review. I have used it on my F150 and Jeep and with a E-bike and analog MTB, but never 2 e-bikes. It is ridiculously easy to load and unload. I don’t know how it could be easier. It is incredibly stable. The bikes hardly move at all. Look at other videos, none of the dozens I watched prior to my buying the 1up showed any of these complaints and my experience has been the same.
Read the comments I verified what the guy said, the position of the rack low or high is what makes the bike sway. Low trailer hitch makes a ton of leverage. All my cars are low. Tall truck not as much of issues

It really appears you went out of your way to make using this rack appear as awkward as possible. Because of this I question if the hitch was even inserted to the appropriate depth (which would be the max possible on any given vehicle that still allows clearance). I question this even further because in spite of the seemingly bazillion angles the rack was filmed conveniently none offered a straight on side profile of the rack attached to the vehicle. Obviously the less depth of insertion the more leverage will be created and an abnormal presentation of bucking will result. If anything seems sketchy here it’s the methodology and theatrics involved in this presentation.

I should delete these videos, since they sabotage any sponsorship deals I could get. The tire holding bike racks are not as secure are the ones that have a mast coming up like yakima Thule and most others. The Kuat rack is more stable than the 1up and 9 times easier to use. I only slammed it for $1,400 price tag. The 1up biggest concern is the bike are so close together they will hit each other in the event of going over speed bump to fast. I tried to simulate a worse case scenario. Keep in mind that was 2 50 lb e-bikes. 1up has the lowest profile of them all( Thule and yakima stick out 40 inch outside your car). 1 up probalt half that. Read the other comments I guy chimed in on the position of the hitch being a concern. My car is Rav4 and the trailer hitch is very close to ground causing more leverage. That’s why the bikes sway. I bolted a rack on a 6 inch lifted Tacoma and the bike swaying around was not as bad. Verified the guys comment. Hope this helps.
Thank you. This is a great review video. That's a shame for spending a thousand (or more) dollars and you get a rack that allows more bike movement than cheap Amazon/Chinese racks, but it's easy to see why there is so much movement - the arms holding the tire attachment bars to the bottom of the rack aren't all that robust with how much contact area they have at the join - barely more than the size of the bolt. There is a lot of leverage on them, so yeah, they deflect quite a bit. Also a shame for that kind of money they didn't use stainless hardware everywhere.
If this guy thinks the stability and bike security is bad with this rack then he should see how scary a Thule, Kuat or countless others are.
