Wow, I wished the Makro in Sakon Nakhon had half the stuff they had at Makro on Koh Chang. I've been on the island 6 times and have been bothered to go to Makro. Next time I will make it a point to visit. I too think the rainy season is a great time to visit Thailand. You get reduced prices and low crowds in all the nice places to stay. Enjoying your trip!

Nice supermarket; would be easy for a Westerner to transition. Not referring only to Koh Chang but to Thailand itself. Considering the overall consumer pricing structure, I would eat out all the time. Very doable for me! Would probably keep eggs, fruit, water and other beverages in the refrigerator. No need for anything else! Can patronize the open-air markets daily if need be; easier and very accessible. Continued good fortune, health, fun and safe travels. Until the next episode......

The price of that resort your staying in really shoots up during high season! Very good Makro for an island, guess because it’s such a short ferry ride it keeps the cost down! Have you ever been to Bali? Could hop over to Lombok or Gili Islands, the climate is better than Thailand between now till October or so!

Quick bit of feedback that the footage from Macro, groceries, prices etc, are really interesting to anyone seriously considering moving to Thailand as it is really useful information to be able to understand what the cost of living is likely to be.
Unlike many potential future expats, after having had a good look around on my last visit to the Kingdom, I already know that I would change my shopping habits and eating and drinking choices, in that cheese, wine, beef, western spirits (whisky😢) are expensive, but in contrast, pork, fish, chicken are REALLY cheap as well as vegetables and herbs. I would thoroughly enjoy being able to eat as much fish and seafood as I wanted, as here in the UK fish is expensive and rarely in my shopping trolley.
I remember being shocked at just how cheap red snapper fillets were in the supermarket in Thailand.

Koh Chang is the nicest of the touristy islands in Thailand. The only thing that's annoying is the sometimes lengthy wait for the ferry.

We're going to Thailand and The Philippines July/August and we decided to stop in Tokyo for 5 nights on the way because the exchange rate is great right now for US dollars. I also have a friend in Tokyo that I haven't seen in over 35 years so that will be nice to see him. Looking forward to getting out of Commiefornia for awhile.

Jagermeister is cheap over there. I used to get that size for like $17 in Vietnam, but recently its been $35 and up. I can't find that cheap price anymore.

Hatyai and Songkhla have great food. Awesome chicken rice and fried chicken. And dim sum. Cheap too. Songkhla good seafood. You can go further down to Betong and see the clouds on the mountain and cross to border for duty free alcohol and back to Betong to drink. Maybe can go to Koh Lipe.
I would suggest you get Joe's builder JJ to recommend an interior designer or a carpentry guy to you. If you like IKEA designs U can bring the designer there to take photo and measurements and copy it for your place. Many of them (customers) does that.
