  • The CH-47 Chinook is a tandem rotor helicopter developed by American rotorcraft company Vertol and manufactured by Boeing Vertol. The Chinook is a heavy-lift helicopter that is among the heaviest lifting Western helicopters. Its name, Chinook, is from the Native American Chinook people of Oregon and Washington state.
    Improved and more powerful versions of the CH-47 have been developed since the helicopter entered service. The U.S. Army's first major design leap was the now-common CH-47D, which entered service in 1982.

    The CH-47 Chinook is a beautiful helicopter, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the new helicopter.

    The UH-1D, H “HUEY’s” were the best sounding helicopters ever! I use to hear them miles out inbound - then see them 10 minutes later flying over-head in V patterns when I was a kid in the 1970’s and 80’s. One time they flew low just above the houses. That rhythmic thumping sound that you hear coming when they are 3 miles away is amazing. Its something you just never forget.

    It always amazed my how close the CH-47’s clockwise and anti-clockwise offsetting propellers are, they look like there’s less than a foot of distance between them vertically at the midway point.

      Phasing the rotors is a common maintenance practice. Each blade is 33 feet long and weigh approx 236 lb. At 100% rotor speed, the blade leading edge generates 20 tons of centrifugal force. We direct passengers to exit away from the front of the aircraft due to blade dip.

  • @glados4765
    @glados4765 5 місяців тому +1

    For those wondering, the reason why the Chinook does not have a tail rotor is because the dual rotors rotate counter clockwise and cancel out the torque effect on single rotor craft which requires the tail rotor to counteract.
