    This is China’s Z-10 the People’s Liberation Army's signature attack helicopter, also known as Fierce Thunderbolt. Some experts call it the Chinese Apache. Meanwhile the PLA even claim it’s better than their western counterparts. It does bear a striking resemblance to the American Apache but are they close siblings or distant kissin’ cousins? China claims this is their first domestically produced attack helicopter but we’ll see that’s not exactly true. Does the Z-10 really have the latest S-tier improvements in weaponry and avionics? I’m your average infantryman Chris Cappy hit that like and subscribe button and let's find out.

    But China had a major problem because After that whole incident with Pratt and Whittney, they could no longer obtain the PWC engines, so they started using their own version, the WZ-9 Turboshaft engines. These were developed with Ukrainian and Russian assistance. According to an article from aviation week.com In 1994 A secret contract was signed with the Kamov Design Bureau of Russia in order to design the helicopter airframe. Each engine has a power of 1,000 kW and although it’s not as powerful as the first engine, it allowed for lower operational costs and freedom from all those pesky international political issues. Because of the lower power, the variant Z-10A has a reduced weight that includes a redesigned nose, twin 90-degree upward engine exhaust ports, less armor protection and a smaller weapon load. They had to cut the advanced sensor suite too and choose a moderate suite. Not perfect, but good enough for their purposes.
    By 2016, the PLA announced that they had equipped all of its ground force aviation units with the Z-10. Chinese culture is known for their emphasis on symbolism and their attack helicopters are no different. Because their 2016 delivery marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the PLA’s aviation force.

    OMG, I never heard the whole story about Pratt & Whitney selling to China. I worked for a UTC company at the time, and all of a sudden we had to start export control classification of everything. We were making air conditioners, so it seemed ridiculous. But the people who explained why made it sound like someone accidentally shared something with China they weren't supposed to. This doesn't sound like an accident at all though.

      @@ProbablyNotAChicken What are talking about? How else can a person born into poverty have an opportunity to become whatever they want to be with the right choices and good hard work? Communism doesn't allow that. It's completely unthinkable in a Monarchy. I don't know why it's so cool to bash capitalism these days. If you're upset with the corporations, then stop buying thier products! But the corporations won't dissappear under Socialism, and the rich will still be rich. The dream of economic equality in reality will be everyone equally poor, except for the super rich who will control everything. That's what always happens when communism takes over. But you people apparently don't know about history. It's a shame what the education systems are pushing these days.

    The one thing that this video overlooked is that the marine corps chose the cobra for a reason. The cobra is simpler to operate and 4 to 5 times more cost effective. For example the maintenance hour to flight hour is is 1/8 that of the Apache. The fuel burn rate 2/3 more efficient and offer a similar time on station and better performance at low altitudes which are the only reason for its existence. Now to say that the Apache is apex of rotary wing attack platforms is an understatement. I'm not going to pull a warthunder and blab specifics but some of the lesser known capabilities of the Apache really put into perspective on how much more advanced the US is compared to any adversary.

    4 z10 were given to Pakistan by china earlier for trials. Pakistan conducted extensive tests and trials on it and finally returned them back due to some issues. Pakistan had reportedly identified 30 or so issues and suggested many improvements which were included in Z10me version and now Pakistan has placed a significant order for them. China gave these helicopters to Pakistan for extreme testing because of Pakistan's 4 decades of experience with American cobra attack helicopters which saw a lot of combat in Pakistan's mountainous regions.

    I’m not all the way through the video so I’m not sure if you touch on this. But part of the reason why attack helicopters became so important for China in the 1990s is because of the effect U.S. helicopters had on Iraqi armor in Desert Storm. Chinese military officers write about this in a series of essay that is now a book called “Unrestricted Warfare”

    • @granatmof
      @granatmof 8 місяців тому

      Honestly Desert Storm probably surprised many people including military experts. Nobody realized just how effective the US military had become since Vietnam. Add to that just new kinds of warfare: stealth attack, bunker busters, helicopter attack raids, special forces assault. It was a much newer kind of warfare, that if you didn't prepare to cou ter, would sweep over you pretty quickly.
      At the end of the day, I don't fault China for wanting a strong defense. But their goal to invade Taiwan is untenable and unacceptable.

      @@T.oMiller That is taken partially out of context, or perhaps we can say slightly inaccurate or oversimplified. After World War II, Japan faced the daunting task of rebuilding its economy. In 1950, Deming, an American statistician and management consultant, began teaching Japanese manufacturers about quality control and production efficiency. His emphasis was on using statistical methods to improve manufacturing processes, which helped Japanese companies like Toyota and Sony produce high-quality products at competitive prices. This approach was a departure from the American manufacturing philosophy of the time, which relied heavily on post-production inspections rather than integrating quality into the production process itself. He was in an environment where he was able to take his own personal concepts and ideas and give them to people that had already proven their technical aptitude by such examples as the Japanese prototype jet fighter. Despite the limitations of only one partial cutaway example given by the Germans towards the end of the war, the Japanese were able to leverage their existing engineering capabilities to rapidly develop their own jet prototype. This speaks to their remarkable ingenuity and design skills, which allowed them to innovate and advance their aircraft technology even with limited information and resources. Thus it was one bright statician pushing his own concepts about the manufacturing process despite the American standards of the time, which the Japanese learned from and improved upon.

      Pakistan is China's only ally which has some real war experience (exclude Russia) so China really depends on Pakistan for their weapons testing as Pakistan tests many Chinese weapons and provides feedback as with the case of Z-10M which had some issues as said by Pakistan in a report to China. China changed the engine, did major changes in Z-10M and returned with a new variant called Z-10ME. Pakistan finally ordered the Z-10ME variant which had a much more powerful engine to fly in Pakistan's mountainous terrain which has some of the world's tallest mountains.

    Apache AH-64E only has 4 hardpoints. Main difference from previous D version it has a new engine and composite rotor blades giving it a higher payload capacity thus allowing it to carry its long bow radar. Otherwise if has both long bow radar and 6 hard points it will be too heavy.

    • @sakawigi1
      @sakawigi1 Місяць тому +2

      @baronvonslambert
      The D model Variant was designed for Longbow.
      The E model comes with modernized computer systems for the radar system and fully integrated systems for working with UAS (unmanned aerial systems). The wingtip nylons for A2A combat was on the D models, however it isn't within US Army doctrine to conduct A2A combat with a helicopter originally designed to wreck Rusky tanks. Israeli and, I believe, UK D models do use those hard points. The E-model eliminated those hardpoints in favor of airframe survivability equipment.
      I know it's vague, but I don't know what is or isn't open public information in regards to all the upgrades.

    • @sakawigi1
      @sakawigi1 5 днів тому

      If you will review my comment, I stated that those are A2A hard points on the tip of the wings and did mention that UK does utilize those. Now if these hard points are located elsewhere on the wings then theu may be specialty designed to meet their doctrine/equipment needs. My main disclaimer is that I was an AH-64 maintainer in the Active U.S. Army for 12 years. U.S. Apache are the only ones I can claim full authority on. As for allied partners' equipment, I am only familiar with a few other countries' equipment due to joint training opportunities.

Chinese technology these days have vastly improved from decades past as they are transitioning from global imitators to innovators. They currently lead the world in dozens of critical technology innovation including space weaponry, ai, drone tech, EVs, hypersonic weaponry, and aeronautics. Despite what you think of China’s military design prowess, having the ability to develop a class of machinery like this as a nation’s first of its kind dedicated attack helicopter amid global embargoes and sanctions aimed at impeding your progress is still rather impressive.

      Which means they're unlikely to win an offensive war into territories Beijing does not already hold solid uncontested control. Even in Korea which they love to tout about the PVA tactics were essentially defeated within a few months which led to trench warfare instead. Trailing in technology is even more severely detrimental in the air and at sea which a Cross-Straits conflict would largely consist of, because there's no place for casual combatants to stage ambushes from.

The BeiDou is already operational for a long time and constellation has more satellites than GPS or any other system. It also has more than ten times the monitoring stations in other countries than have been deployed for GPS. Also satellites are of newer generation than GPS satellites .As a result BeiDou's accuracy is much better.
