  • The AGR is a patented and unique feature that lets you adjust the horn and mouthpiece combination so it fits your own requirements. It is easy to use, but can be misunderstood. I try here to untangle the issue.

Interesting gadget! It's fascinating that a small increase in the gap can cause slight changes to the tone by changing the air flow into the reciever by a hair. I guess it offers an artist another method of controlling the sound of the instrument. Neat idea!

I’ve found that the high register slots better with a smaller gap, and the resistance grows proportionately greater the smaller the gap.

I have seven mouth pieces and the length of the shank is different on each of the mouth pieces. My new Bach mouth piece was so long that every note was originally flat. As the shank was uniform, I was able to carefully measure and remove a section of the shank so I have a fixed distance for that mouthpiece. If the shank is too short on a mouthpiece it is forever too sharp. My monster Andrea Thurman mouthpiece has a shank that fits perfectly into the lead pipe and stops at the internal stop and all but the two notes are in tune. Unfortunately, that mouthpiece is too large for my upper range. It produces magnificent tone in the lower register on my Miraphone M5050e. It seems to me that there is no standard for the length of a mouth piece shaft, which might suggest the legitimacy of having an adjustable lead pipe. It would help if horn manufacturers told the new owner of a horn about the depth of the lead pipe stop. Then we might be able to find a mouthpiece that is best suited for our horns. I am surprised that that there isn't a company that produces an add on adjustable lead pipe. Thanks for the demo.

Hi David, forgive me asking something you've probably covered in a previous video - but what mouthpiece is that? I've not seen one like that before. If you have a video on it, can you post a link, please?

I believe it’s a David Childs Signature mouthpiece

I've been using an Alliance DC4 for a while and I like. I also tried the DC3 (David Childs choice). Here is a video comparing those two:
