I believe she recorded this around the time some people were saying she couldn't hold her own singing...that she needed background vocals. She showed them. The look she gives to the camera near the end is almost like her gazing right into the eyes of her critics. Go Kelly!

Truly blessed. You can't get training to obtain a certain style of a voice, your really just born with it. This is why she is still in the game because of her power vocals!
What you're actually born with is the ability to learn (and to hear, as long as you aren't born deaf). And we all learn language as we grow, and this sets up what could be the basis for singing. Different people have different interests... those who are very interested in pursuing singing can get to a high level of technique if they are motivated that way (and if they have the opportunity/time to do so). You can absolutely progress with training for a certain style. It just depends on what you mean by "training"--sometimes it's more structured and other times people do well with learning more casually, trying out different things until they find "their voice". Certainly everyone's voice is different, we're all "built" differently and so vocal cords/vocal tracts differ so not everyone will be able to have exactly Kelly's range. But, no, it's not just a "born with it" thing. I think that detracts from what hard work Kelly has put into her voice and it also makes it so other people feel disheartened because they think they'll never sing well unless they're "born with it".

@alan guttenfelder I'd love to see you do better. If this isn't good, then how come no one can match her voice in a cover? She actually has great tone in her upper register. Some singers (Christina Aguilera) do yell instead of sing; Kelly Clarkson isn't one of those singers.
