This song couldn’t have been released at a better time. My 22 yr old son just accepted an amazing job offer yesterday which will be a couple thousand miles away from me. While I’m extremely proud and excited for him I am also sad to know that he’ll be so far away. I will miss him so but he cannot pass up this opportunity. Good luck Ryan. Mom and Dad love you and always wish you the very best.

I read the title and knew it would be sentimental to his dad. I like it it’s good. The vocal notes he hits definitely remind me of wake me up when September ends. Because of the way it goes from major to minor. Not just cause it’s about a father.

The love they put into this song is amazing. Of course this is like Billie Joe’s message two both of his children. Shows the love he has for both of his sons and how thankful he is to have them. I know Billie Joe always offends a lot of people with political but he is a 100% a loving and caring person, and you can see that with this song.

I am a fan of GREEN DAY...last year I adopted my wife's daughter and a few days ago I found out that my wife is pregnant...this song became extremely special for me and every time I hear it tears take center stage for everything, for the song, for what I waited so long to be a dad, because a beautiful song arrives right at this moment...the band of my adolescence did it once again...give meaning to my life with a song. ..thank you idols.

As an uncle who played a large part in helping to raise my nephews and niece back in the day, this song has a greater meaning to me. My father suffered a near-fatal stroke before he reached retirement age, so I took the lessons I learned from him, good and bad, to help raise (the children I never had) my nephews and niece. This song brings back a lot of memories and learning experiences. To all of the aunts and uncles out there, thanks for being there for us when our fathers weren't available.

Lost my father in 2019, I miss him every single seconds of my life.One month before his death he said "son, we got a project (usually he meant was building a small wood tent) to be done when you finished your study". My mom is still around I'll take care of her with all my will.

I lost my father last october and i heard the saviors album, i never thought there will be a FATHER TO A SON. thank you so much billie.
Was driving my truck early in the morning through a town in Nevada and decided its time to listen to this album. Album was fine but this song hit and I stayed crying. Made me think of my teenage boy. Such a amazing song.
I suffer from the bipolar mental disorder, as well as I began to show early signs of paranoid schizophrenia (I'm 26 y/o), and eventually, such things turn me into a highly aggressive, easily-addicted to substances person.
In november 2022 I almost screwed my health forever and had to get through an uncertain medical procedure, but still, had only a 7 day-window, where it could be my first, last and only chance to make my wife pregnant.
Because of my behaviour, I used to reffer to my son as "The Jesus of Suburbia", because of that starting line: "I'm the son of rage and love", and now he's about to turn 6 months, so the song "Watching the wheels" (John Lennon) and now, Father to a son, are like a daily anthem for me.
I know my soul is rotten, and magic and love can't walk by the side of my son as I hold him, but his heart is just so big, and his love so precious, that feels like it beats for us both, and brings me the happiest days of my life with his toothless smile.
You'll be a winner. Soon your child will be proud of you of how strong his father is!

It’s awesome that Billie took the musical arrangement from “Regretfully Yours”, a song he wrote for a play called “These Paper Bullets!” and repurposed it for this song. I was hoping they would eventually release “Regretfully Yours” as a Green Day song, but this is the next best thing!

Man, this hits me right in the heart. Hard to believe it's been 30 years of Green Day and 22 of those with these sentiments unvoiced in my heart. Having kids just changes your whole outlook on life and they nailed it with Father to a Son.
So great to see that there is a band out there who sounds more than a rock band. I think, that's what Green Day is about. It's not easy to create a song, that would sound so "classic rock" and be more than a rock song about booze and drugs. When I listen to Green Day, I feel Hope. That's kind of romantic vibe they've got, with a killing guitar sound, of course. They are the Beatles of the modern age, and this modern age is pretty dark and empty without them

As son, I feel these lyrics as a warm hug from my father while he impulses me to keep going on and flowing with life, making me know I will always have his support whatever it happens. This one makes me feel vulnerable. Now I am quite faraway from him, but I am deeply lucky that he lives. And I wish he continues living for many more years. He is such a good man with such a hard life. But he has given everything he could for raising me and my sister. I love you so much, dad (and mum, of course, though this song isn't about you :P)
