The main problem with PPC and OPC is concrete carbonation. Due to this steel rebar bar will start rusting in as short as 20-25 years and your structure especially roof cracking or spalling will start. But for OPC carbonation time is almost double so it will take 50-60 years .
For only coastal areas use PPC or better PSC cement because OPC cannot prevent chlorine related rusting. Try to keep water to cement ratio of .40 , then you can expect to live peacefully without repair for 25-30 years. In coastal area RCC structure has less life compared to non Coastal area

But information in video is contrasting to what you say..it may lead to confusion in viewers I feel...so you mean ppc is 25-30 years life and opc which is 40 to 50 which is giving clean chit to use opc as majority..could you please clarify as we are using ppc in pillars and beams in Bangalore..
@@82ramprasad see government is propagating blended cement like PPC or PSC because OPC uses a vast amount of limestone resources and use of fly ash or slag down some limestone demand and blended cement uses industrial waste like thermal power plant fly ash and slag from steel industry which is headache for government to dispose. Also OPC generates a large amount of CO2 in manufacturing so substituting fly ash and PSC with some OPC decreases that emissions .
But PPC and PSC are good for large scale concreting like dams or below ground or underwater concreting because these cement are very good at preventing chemical attack against chemical like chloride, alkali silica...etc that why when you are living in coastal area use PPC or PSC
But in normal conditions 90% of buildings deteriorate due to concrete carbonation. Basically concrete is highly alkaline which prevents steel rebar from rusting. But carbon dioxide in air slowly makes concrete acidic and concrete loses alakinity. As soon as concrete loses alkalinity there is no way to save the building, steel rebar will rust and expand and crack the concrete.
Both PSC and PPC cement are very bad at preventing carbonation. So rebar rusting will start very soon. But with OPC cement carbonation rate is at least 2 times slower than the blended cement .
If you don't get OPC cement use PPC cement of good brand and make sure the water to cement ratio is 0.4 , you can achieve it by using superplasticizer and at least 21 days of concrete curing .
I will suggest go with PPC in foundation and footing above it use OPC.
And most important keep water to cement ratio as low as possible, use superplasticizer. Lower the water more stronger and durable building.
Sir, life of the building is not determined by just cement and it's it has lots of factor. Loads, types of loads acting on it, purpose of building, environment, quality of workmanship, quality of materials, etc. It can't be discussed in just comments. It's better that PPL like you would discuss it on video with us and share it, so that PPL are enlightened by the same.
