Thank you. I would like to know how to scale, measure in cm and inches, then export to make that the print is the same measurements as it says. I want to scale up my tiny sewing patterns and print in pdf, in multiple pages and join them together to make actual sewing patterns. Is that possible with gimp and how can I do that?
Very helpful, and clear narration. Can you do a tutorial on how to scale an image (not crop!) to fit within a fixed aspect ratio? Canvas/print size, resolution, pixels, etc., can be anything, just don't want to lose content by cropping. Would rather have white space. Is there a way to create a 4:5 aspect ratio white background that can be used for this?
How do I turn on the measuring scales at the top and left borders of the display window? (They aren't showing on my display). Also, my display panels to the left and right of my center display window are black & white. How do I get them to display in color, like yours? I am using GIMP version 2.10.8
Thank you very much. Very helpful, indeed. Now, maybe you want to change the term "straight line" for "horizontal" or "vertical" line, since all the lines you drew were straight, not curved or twisted.
I hate that these apps put the page so far from the ruler instead of right by it. It doesn't have easy to access measurs snap or ruler measurement change options. If I'm new and can't find them right away, the program has failed and is sub par.
I upgraded and had grey’d icons etc. Yesterday, someone finally showed me how to change it al on the main menu chose: EDIT PREFERENCES On the left panel under INTERFACE click on THEME and chose one on the right. Also change ICON THEME Hope that helps. It sure helped me
after 7 years - still helpful . Thanks.

Really educational. I appreciate your tutorial very much!

Is there a way you can draw a line to a set length in gimp?
Thank you so much! The gimp doco on this doesn't actually explain "this is how you measure a straight line" (ie it's missing "left-click then drag").

Correct, but you mean he should have _substituted_ "horizontal" or "vertical" for straight.

Thanks. What if i would measure only the text bar from letter H to letter P ? And get the right distance from 0 centimeter to X centimeter.
Thanks, how did you make the GIMP interface look like that?
The simplest way is to upgrade it to version 2.10.
i was expecting, how to keep this measure tool, how i will use it if the measure tool disappear when click another tool.
Thank you! Now, how do I get my user interface to look like yours?!??!
