The hooplah over the Hobie 360 drive and general disregard for the Nucanoe Pivot Drive is a perfect example of the industry and market completely underestimating the benefit of stern mounted propulsion. I have a trolling motor mounted on the stern if my kayak and turns can be scary tight. But also a tight turn at lower speeds works well to move the kayak mostly sideways on the water. And instant reverse. All at a much lower, non-Hobie price. Add to the fact that Nucanoe is working hard on now mounted motor solutions as well. Hobie's "innovations" are mostly forced/required because they chose to use flippers instead of a prop. What Nucanoe is doing seems more like true innovation to me.
That thing looks like it would be a nightmare trying to clear weeds out of it.
At last someone reviewed Nucanoe kayaks. Thanks. I have a Frontier 12 and love it!! At 66 years old and a fly fisherman I need a stable platform. I have rigged it with a transom mount trolling motor and foot steering with wireless trolling pro for hands free fishing. Pedal drive kayaks are great but not for fly fisherman.

This is one of the most interesting pedal designs out there, only because you can ostensibly diy this into a wide range of kayaks. Nucanoe might have the makings for the first universal pedal drive system on the market. Also, somebody mentioned a concern with weeds. There are propeller guards - cages, screens, rings, and cones - that protect your propellers. These guards won't work on other drives because the circumferences are too big to fit into the drive openings, but since this system is rudder mounted, that won't be an issue. So an apparent weakness might actually be a strength. If Nucanoe does come up with a propeller guard without giving away too much drag or cavitation, and perhaps a universal mod kit, their system could have a significant impact on the industry.
This pedal system has bin around for years H2Pro-ped is the original concept in which nucanoe joined up with them and just refined it over the years.
Weed gaurds are useless when you’re snagged on drifting kelp. With a mirage drive, you just pull it up and your free. I doubt you could pull this thing up with a couple 100 pounds of kelp tangled to it.
That yellow Flint is decked out! I’ll be looking into that one.
KayakDIY, I suggest finding your proper leg extension setting for best pedaling efficiency giving you a smoother stroke and more endurance and less strain on mechanics of the knee. Other than that your reviews are thorough and solid.
I tried hard to dial the kayak into fitting me, but still the pedals have a slightly weird feel. Almost like I’m pedaling over a hump. The drive is buttery smooth, but just has a weird effect. I noticed similar feel on the Jackson pedal drive too. Not a deal breaker for me, but was bit of a weird feeling compared to other model pedal drives I have been on....OT PDL, Native Propel, Riot Mako, etc
Would you be able to do a review of the ascend h10 kayak from bass pro
James Harrison I’m trying to develop relationships with BassPro and Ascend. If I can then I would be able to test their kayaks. That is about the only kayak manufacturer that I don’t have connections with. I can’t obviously buy every kayak so I rely on companies either sponsoring the product for review or dealers letting me try their kayaks.

Any input on the speed of the boat? Compared to a sportsman 120 PDL or Hobie outback?
B Thames buy the Sportsman 120 PDL and don’t look back. I love the PDL series of kayaks from Old Town and Ocean Kayak. They are my favorite pedal kayaks. The efficiency and feeling of the pedal drive is remarkable. I can maintain position in river current effortlessly. My Ocean Kayak Malibu PDL I should have never sold. I now cry myself to sleep every night after selling it. 😂

Hi I'm in high school I do a lot of bass fishing and a lot of bow fishing and have started looking at a kayak to get me out in the water on some of the bigger and rivers near me do you have any recommendations on kayak thAt would be stable enough for me stand and bow fish and mess with the big carp or fight som big bass in but could move in the water all right any help you could give would be appreciated thank you

3 Waters Big Fish 105 came to mind immediately but is $799. Might find used ones in your area though.
Feel Free Lures have been around for years and likely can find some used ones as well in the price range.

Yes. It is propeller driven. Pedal forward or backward.
That pivot drive system does not look smooth. You could see it in the pedal cadence. That cable/line to the prop looks like it provides too much surface area for friction. I've reviewed quite a few kayaks on my chan and don't think I would purchase this.
