  • One of my unsung favorite features of my house is the sprinkler set up, now the annoying part has been the limited control my current controller gave me. There was a wifi adapter that was available for over 80 when i searched but no smart home integration. Move in Yardian, during my search most smart controllers would be 200 plus, so affordability was very important to me (dont break the bank) and also customization. Comment questions below!

I’m also planning on getting the yardian, but it’s because of the HomeKit. I set up additional zones for watering plants on my deck and around the house, and I want to be able to turn on those zones on demand using HomeKit. The biggest gain is my wife will also have access to turning on the zones since we share the HomeKit. Super useful and easy for her.

yes with homekit you are able to turn on individual zones either via siri or manually inside homekit app

At least it works in HomeKit, my Rachio 3 advertises it does but they can’t get it to work after almost two years. Probably will be getting this one. Thanks for the content

I plan to use this to automate I homekit where the sprinkler will come on when a dog walker allows the dog on my lawn to piss and shit on it.

I want to get this one because it allows two sensors aka rain sensor and flow sensor but I loved my RainMachine Pro in the old house and screen that came with it. So I will stick with the RainMachine device and upgrade to the HD touch. OAN the houses look like the ones in my neighborhood lol.

I bought one but cannot get it to connect to HomeKit/Wi-Fi. Any advice? I tried trouble shooting using their website, Reddit, and the user manual. Nothing will work.
I tried creating a new home, ensuring my wifi has a 2.4 network. I tried selecting the unit from the WiFi screen on my phone. I tried scanning the QR code. I tried resetting the device, my network, etc

I just set mine up. After an hour of trying to set up manual programs I'm returning it.
    This thing is utterly stupid.
I have a trees & ground cover zone I want to run with two programs:
    1. One program to run on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday for 40 minutes.
    2. A second program to run on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, twice per day for 10 minutes.
Guess what? When I assign a zone to one program it gets removed from the other program I had previously added it to. No matter what, I cannot get the same zone to live on more than one program. This will be especially aggravating when I add a vegetable garden.
Additionally, when I add programs via a laptop web browser, they do not appear on the iPhone app. But if I add a program with the iPhone, it will appear on the list on the laptop web browser.
And for some inexplicable reason it is not possible to manually run a zone from either the Yaridan app for iPhone or laptop web browser, Instead one must use the Home Kit app for that.
    EDIT:
Yardian has since released a firmware update that fixes my gripes:
    • I can now run a staton (or stations) at will with what is called an Instant Program.
    • I can now include a station in more than one program.

Why do you need to set up your program like this? The web app lacks some updates and improvements from the app but it works for me. You can definitely run a zone from the app but you need to make sure you enable your zones first.

@@LuisFernandez-wg1gh I'm going to assume "this" means having the ability to include a zone in more than one program.
The answer is easy, and many examples come straight to mind: The front lawn and back lawn are both on two zones each. Perhaps I re-seeded one area of the back lawn and want to add additional waterings for just that one zone without overwatering the other three zones just to accommodate the one zone with the new seed.
Or perhaps I planted a tree in one zone and want to add extra water to that one zone.
Perhaps I have the vegetable garden on daily ten-minute waterings but once established I also want to deep water the vegetable garden one to times per week. The need to do this should be self explanatory.
The south side of the front lawn is much more sun exposed than the other half of the front lawn and the entire back lawn. Perhaps I want to add an extra watering or two for just that one sun-exposed area of the front lawn.
Depending on the unique circumstances of any given landscape design, the justifications for any given zone to exist on more than one program are unlimited. For crying out loud, my 20 year-old Hunter-Douglass timer could do that. Apparently the Aeon-Matrix software developers are as short sighted as you. I continue to wonder if they are apartment dwellers with no yard at all.
And no, as i confirmed with Aeon-Matrix tech support, it is not possible to manually run a single zone from within either the Yardian app for mobile devices or the web GUI for desktops and laptops. One must instead, in the context of an iOS device, use Apple's Home app to initiate a manual run of a single zone. It is not possible at all to use the web GUI to initiate a manual run of a single zone.
I wound up keeping the thing because I realized I could use conditional programs to semi-accommodate the need to add zones to multiple programs..But that is a band-aid approach to that which should obviously be a part of the design of any normal program schedule. Aeon-Matrix acknowledged the oversight and stated a fix will be released in a future software update. When or how far off into the future was not disclosed. Also, it was not disclosed whether they are going to play the typical dickhead card these companies love to play and force one to buy an entire new controller to get an updated app. I'm half expecting to have to buy a new controller to obtain any new app with added features that may be released in the future. "Hardware incompatibilities" are a great excuse these companies love to play for not providing current customers access to new software features new customers will get with their new devices. These companies love to exclude old devices from new software features that are included with new devices.

@Steven Taylor Yes, it is a fact that it is not possible to have any given zone present on more than one program. Unless one uses a conditional program as a work-around.
I wound up keeping the Yardian due to not wanting to spend the time to return it, decide on a replacement and install it. But I do have real regrets with the thing.
This fall I reseeded one end of the backyard lawn. This lawn is on two zones. Due to this dumb limitation I was not able to simply create a program for the supplemental watering of the newly seeded area of lawn. Well not without rigging a conditional program that is.
Another nag about manual programs: Not only is it not possible to run a zone manually from the Yardian app, rather one must leave the app and run the zone from Home app, it is not possible to set the duration of the manual run. Rather, the software uses the time set on the single program designated to run that zone.

@Steven Taylor About a month after you left your question a firmware update fixed my gripes. I can now enthusiastically give the Yardian Pro a solid 5 stars. It's a perfect timer.
