you just brought back a flood of good memories from my childhood with the bit on Ybor City. My grandparents lived in Tampa and we would visit them twice a year. My parents would always drive over one day every visit to have cuban sandwiches for lunch at Carmine's, and then later after some random sightseeing have dinner at the Columbia. I think the last time I was in Ybor was my senior year in High School, some 30 years ago and it really made me smile to see Carmines in one of your video shots, as well as the review of the Columbia.
Fantastic job telling the history of Ybor City & The Columbia Restaurant! You really do your homework going over the history of historic places you visit. As always, wonderful job, you two! Btw, I appreciate how you rate the meals at the restaurants you visit.

A place we haven’t checked out on our travels down there. We love historical places. Though he’s not supposed to eat it, my husband loves white chocolate bread pudding. If we get down there we will definitely check this out, and maybe I’ll give him a bite of the bread pudding. 😉😆

Wonderful show...we had visited Ybor City many years ago, and were plesantly surprised the area is making a comeback. And we were epecially pleased of your coverage of one of our favorite restaurants..The Columbia". It remained just as we remembered..very special. Oh my goodness… for whatever reason your very first video popped up for me and I watched it and then the second one. They were both very good but you are so much more relaxed in your more current videos. It was fun to watch you both transitioning to this lifestyle.
As a Tampa native, this restaurant holds a special place in my heart. I had my bridal shower there 21 yrs ago in the Red Room hosted by my life long friend who was the Columbia Restaurant’s special events coordinator. On that day, she gave my Mom and I a special treat. She took us up a very narrow staircase that isn’t open to the public. Upstairs was a secret room behind secret doors covered in mirrors. She said that poker games were held in the room and that JFK was there at one time. Such amazing food surrounded by amazing history. Next time try their 1905 salad or their Cuban sandwich. Sooooo sooo yummy.
And their roast pork is delicious! Such a beautiful historical place! Tampa native here too!😁

Two of the most highly regarded eateries in Tampa are The Columbia, where you had lunch, and Berns, which is a famous steakhouse. If you try Berns, you will not be able to dress casually, as it is a fine dining establishment (and quite pricey). Bern’s is also well known for their extensive wine cellar and desserts. They even grow their own vegetables!

Glad you made it to the Columbia. While the expansion restaurants are very good, nothing beats the original. Lunch is the best, and I try to catch it in St Augustine in the heart if St George St, the dinner menu is the same with higher prices and marginally larger portions. Growing up in Central FL (Winter Haven) the Columbia was a destination restaurant to take a date to and it was a gem in an eyesore. Ybor City has really improved. Still remember in the 60's/70's viewing the factories easily seen from I4/I75, large dilapidated brick building with all the windows busted out - now either torn down or used as the base and converted to condos. (Also remember the free beer at Busch Gardens at the end of the factory tour but that is a different issue...and terminated when the University was built adjacent to the property.) Not sure how accurate it is, but have heard that after Prohibition, the Columbia has FL liquor license #2, with #1 somewhere down in south Florida.

Great video. Thanks for the recon work on the restaurant. We have reservations at the one in St Augustine in early March. As far as the taillight replacement, I thought you were about to hook up that Mercedes for a new toad! Enjoy your time in Florida. We’re looking forward to warmer weather.
We went with your recommendation & had the bread pudding ( the best !) Then we realized we'd been there before (March 2018) but we sat at the front of the restaurant near the bar. This visit we sat next to the sculpture you showed. Once again...an awesome vlog with the history, the food and you covered Ybor so well. You know I have stories about Ft. Lauderdale & I laughed when Michelle said sketchy. An uncle retired from FLPD & a cousin currently FLPD near retirement. They both have moved to Sebring & Lake Placid. Let's just say we skipped that area ~😁 Nothing like grand time 🥰 V&W
My father in law grew up two blocks from the restaurant.
Five generations of my wife family has eaten there. Oldest restaurant in the state of Florida and the best Cuban food I ever had!!!!
My family is from Palmetto Beach which is the next neighborhood over across Alamo Drive and 22nd Street!

We love the Columbia. We've been to the original in Ybor and the one on the Riverwalk and the one on Sand Key. At night Mon thru Sat you can see a Flamenco show. The sangria is great and I like the 1905 salad for a lower carb choice.
The one in celebration is great too but not as big, same menu and has live music Friday and Saturday evening. Highly recommend the sangria that they make by the jug full at your table. The red one is better than the white. The warm Cuban bread is fantastic!
Glad you were able to visit The Columbia and enjoyed it. Next time you're in the area I can recommend visiting the Parksdale Market in Plant City for their strawberry shortcake and/or their strawberry milkshakes and also their strawberry bread. :-) If you're traveling north on I-95 near the Space Coast PM me and I can recommend a possible campground and more restaurants and who knows, you may even be able to see a missile launch. We lived in Lakeland and went to Ybor City and The Columbia probably 20+ years ago. Ybor City sure has changed. It looks very nice. Thanks for the visit.
The Columbia is on my bucket list for sure. What a historic and timely treat is waiting for us soon, I hope. Now, to plan a trip to Florida. Taillight install on Mercedes looks doable thanks to you. Flan and bread pudding have edged their way into the top 10 of pie & ice cream list. Oh MY!

Thank you for this video. Our daughter-in-law is from Cuba, lived in Tampa most of her childhood and young adult life. Next time we are in that area we will most certainly visit the Columbia restaurant .

Necktie time you’re in Tampa go to Brocato’s restaurant and get a “devil crab”. A local favorite it’s blue crab meat in a dough covering (it sort of looks like a mini football) they’re delicious especially if you slice it from tip to tip and add hot sauce. Enjoy!

Truly appreciate; we are first Generation American Cubans and we didn't know this history other then the History of Tampa and Cuban cigars. We have been to their St. Augustine restaurant. Thank You Oh wife no don't have Salmon in a Cuban Restaurant lol Anyway awesome detailed history.

There is also a Columbia Restaurant just off Interstate 4 in downtown Celebration near Orlando. Same food but beautiful new building. All roads lead to a Columbia!

You just can't Prep for what's ahead in any size RV. Food inflation,shortages. War, harsh weather, misplaced anger so widespread today. Etc.

Great memories. My dad used to smoke cigars and every time I smell them I think of him. I have never been a smoker but love the smell, probably because of the memory.

Great video! We enjoyed the Columbia in St Augustine. What a wonderful restaurant. Loved their Spanish bean soup and 1905 salad. What a wonderful experience! Headed to Grand Canyon, Santa Fe and Sonoma March 1st. Any restaurant recommendations would be appreciated! Safe Travels!
If you go through Albuquerque, there’s a great place called Range Cafe. There are a few I’m that area. Not sure about the other areas you mentioned.

The Columbia Restaurant is amazing. We love Ybor City, but it can be a bit sketchy. We've never been there after dark. If you get to Sarasota or St. Augustine, there is a Columbia there as well. The salad is amazing.
If referring to the thumbnail picture that says, “Extremely Sketchy”, that is referring to the campground at the end of the video where Michelle says that. :) We changed the thumbnail, maybe we should change it back. 😂
There is also a Columbia in St. Augustine and you should definitely visit St. Augustine.

The restaurant looked really nice. The food looked really good. I think the chicken was trying to tell you something 😂 the light looked easy enough to change, but I couldn’t concentrate on the light after I saw the ding in the door 😂😳
The ding in the door happened that same day. Not sure if you knew, but we explained that in the same video when we broke the tail light.
Gotcha, no I didn’t recall the reason for the ding, my memory is not the greatest 😂 at least it wasn’t a big ding!

Check online for the Columbia 1905 salad. It is well worth making and eating.
I almost got that salad that day (along with their famous Cuban sandwich) but changed my mind at the last minute. Once I saw the dessert options I wanted to make sure I had room for it lol! 🤓

I had to do a simple light bulb replacement on my Silverado at Advance Auto and was got my hand stuck while doing it and was yelling for help.

I hit the send button to soon. The second part was when the guy that came to help me said there's a lot easier way to change that bulb. Just pull this pin and the whole lamp assembly swings out. DA

Is there a spot under the cooktop for a small trashcan?
If you do not want to use that space for food storage, then you can take up that space with a small trash can, but we chose to use it for more storage. Plus it is just us in the van and having the trash can readily available is nice too. Many times it has been so handy to turn around and throw something in the trash while driving down the road too. We literally empty it every day because it is so small though. Everyone has their own items they bring but we needed the extra space. Of course, we live full time in it. 😊🤓
Can you say what that lens cost. An LED lens assembly for a new Yukon XL is about $650. No individual lights can be changed except for the reverse light. So if the parking lamp or signal lamp goes out you have to replace the whole assembly. The Chevy version (Suburban) still has bulbs you can replace.
Yep, $559 for the 2023 Mercedes. Many people think Mercedes is higher than Chevy, GMC, Ford etc, but apparently not. Same with this tail light, you have to replace the entire assembly.
