This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned. - Авто та транспорт

Btw...for future oil spills. Always keep a cheap bag of kitty litter handy. It works great!!
You sir are a beast just cutting a hole in a 4 thousand dollar transmission 😯 like no worries
#sendit
Jeez, big job man! Can’t believe you didn’t let us hear the Grey Ghost on start up as you moved it!!
I will give you that pleasure in a future vid, promise.
Cutting the bell housing! Balls of steel! Nice job
The challenges of being the first to do a project like this. Love your persistence 👍
Yep. Thanks jason.
I'm a Subaru guy, but I've always had a soft spot for Porsches. But the quirky side, like 914s and 928s, which is probably why I REALLY love my SVX.
Cool car, great motor! I almost went that way, but Turbo Yoda talked me out of it.
@@rennch.
The eg33 is a very good engine and has lots of performance potential.
Unfortunately parts are getting hard to find for that engine.
You must be sold on the flat 6 sound because I would have used an ej207/257.
Of note...I am seeing a lot of guys swapping in Honda J series v6's.
I am amazed at how much power those engines can make on stock bottom ends. Cheap and pretty reliable to boot!
Video pace is fine... We’re in a good place for car people right now. As the “old” hot rod guys age out, a new generation is mixing - a lot because of UA-cam. Restomods, LS swaps, Subaru swaps, EFI on old vintage cars, tuner generation, 80’s and 90’s being cool again... Covid lockdown has given us some hours back and a great excuse for locking ourselves in our shops. UA-cam videos inspire others to be more fearless - I.e. - If “that” guy can do it, certainly I could...
Keep up the great work and it’s starting to really take shape.
What a sage youtube comment. Thanks Karl!
The joys of R&D. Two steps forward, one sideways, one backward, three sideways. All good fun 😁
Loved that intro Michael 👍😀
Good! I found it amusing myself.
I’m so happy to find someone paving the way for an idea I had to do this combo. I had worried that the direction the engine rotates wouldn’t match the transaxle but haven’t watched all of these yet to see if that’s addressed
You don’t need to justify the time between videos mate, I admire your progress. Awesome build and great to watch. Cheers!!!
Thanks bud!
YES Michael! We want to see the hammering, grinding, welding, cursing, screaming, cutting and so on with the 1/4's, bring it! All the good, bad and the ugly.
That flywheel was something else ... and the cut out of the bellhouse was a major surgery
well done you are a brave man 👌keep up the good work.
Circle of life bit was hilarious!
:) thanks.
"...as they say in the creme business..." 😅
Love the adapter kit, very nice piece of engineering.
I may have stolen that line from Letterman.
Guys like You keep the world turning. I would have been staring at the pool of oil for hours and getting nowhere. Impressing work.
it's fast when you have time-lapse.
Appreciate everything you add to this project! Watching closely as you continue this journey! Keep up the great work.
Michael, glad you finally made a video for your loyal fans...ha ha ha! No worries, we understand the dedication involved and we'll wait for it! Excellent job and making this work. Really cool that you're engineering a future kit for others taking this similar task on. BTW...thanks for getting me yelled at by my 9 yr old daughter because I'm watching your video instead of her gymnastics practice...ha ha ha 🤣
Apologize to her for me. :P
High Five! Another video killing it. Great job on sorting all of this out.
great work
This adapter plate is awesome! What a game changer.
Great channel! Love the project!
Thanks Martin!
Determination... love it... Can't wait to hear what this thing sounds like!
Me too!
What patience you have Mike! I'd have kicked the crap out of that engine when it fell over! 😂😂
It was more of an "of course that happened", then an angry rant.
Amazing demonstration of sticktooitiveness. You were all in on this one! Great job!!!
I went BD, that’s for sure. Thanks Tom.
This is very exciting. I really admire your courage. That starter is a tough problem! You are doing really great! Keep up the fantastic work. Really look forward to watching your progress on this!
There are a couple more challenges, but that's the next one on the list.
That was pretty cool!
Thanks George!
Perseverance! Hell of a job man!
one foot in front of the other!
Great project.
Thanks! Are you guys home or mobile audio?
In theory this adapter should work with all Subaru EJ engines as well as the svx Eg33
Great stuff
Thanks Chuck!
Another great episode Michael! Thanks for taking us on your journey. Let’s keep this baby heading forward #progress :)
Great intro! keep the faith
Thanks man! Hopefully worth a laugh.
Awsome job Michael been binge watching from Aus over this damn Covid lockdown in Melbourne Australia👍👋
We are locked down everywhere too!
Suuuubout time!
Or subaruutime! Cool!✌🏼
Thanks Ryan!
Brilliant! Almost there.
from your mouth to God's ears.
Impressive!
Thanks Alexander.
Just subbed! nice build! I am doing a similar build, v8 swapped mr2 with a g86 and had similar adapter plate woes. I also use the same sketchy motorcycle lift for engine/trans removal.
Keep on sending it.
Absolutely!
Nice!
Mike, love the channel. I look forward to each new video. Here's a thought on the bell housing cutout. Pick up a bell housing from the junk yard with a curve similar to your trans bell housing. Cut out a patch section from the junk bell housing. Invert the patch and shape it to fit the cutout hole. Have somebody with aluminum experience weld the patch to your trans bell housing. Grind the weld smooth and it'll look factory curving inward underneath starter.
Love that idea!
Crazy! I would never have the courage to cut like you do 🤓👍👍👍👍
Sure you would...especially if you knew you could get another free bell housing to bolt on in case it went sideways. :)
keep em comin!!
If you're watchin', I'm makin'.
Wow wow wow. It seems you are solving all the porsche world problems. Bad ims bearing in a boxster, cayman, 996 or 997, you’ve got the fix. Love it. Great stuff.
At least a couple of 'em.
Greetings from Qatar! .. Your work and ideas are impressive .. wish you all the best!
Cool! Welcome! Thanks for watching!
😀👍
Mike, I'm in for one of your kits...Great content.
Thanks John! Will keep you posted!
another frantic episode!
Frantic?
frantic in a good way, having to cut and retool to make things fit! 👍
😊 nice save of the car.
Yea that was a bit crazy.
Yay! Long time coming to you, long time work to do.
Indeed!
You scared me! Way braver than I'm capable of being.
disagree. I'll bet if Aliens came you'd ball out.
Love to see this on the fly solutions. I can relate because been doing similar decisions on my café racer project. 🏆
is it on UA-cam?
@@rennch. No, just posting some pics on my Instagram as I go.
This type of struggles are way more interesting than watching just another "fast forward" build with of the shelf parts. The Skid Factory's latest build and Home built by Jeff's Alfararri build also show the real side of this kind of work. Keep up the good work - watching from Sweden.
Thanks Mats. Much appreciated!
Full sent! I love it 🤙🏻
Definitely, you should have something welded to close that gaping hole beneath the starter.
That's the plan! Thanks Alex!
Agree on the concave piece for under the starter, this episode has me hooked and invested to see you succeed. Jealous of your generously sized garage and your organization
That was legit the reason I moved to Long Beach. Checkout the garage upgrade vids.
May Your Algorithms Align! 🤙
Great work man, it’s tough beeing the one doing something for the first time, gotta figure everything out yourself.
But if you make it, it should come with some benefits like business possibilities as you talked about, bet you there is a few more people out there that would want a “kit” to make this swap easier. 👍🏻
That's the hope!
Keeping it up for your algorithm! You'r the man! Still liven the build and "liking" it appropriately. Wait a minute!!!! Was that a Porsche engine oil catch tool I saw under the Grey Ghost when you backed out?!?! I have one of those too! Several actually- my special Porsche engine oil catch too gets used a lot and tends to wear out quickly- they don't make them like they used to!
Ha ha, yes! 993 engines like to leak from the valve covers!
@@rennch. Yeah, 964 engines like to leak from .... well, everywhere!
Oohhh - the joy of working with metrics in an emperial country :) I spend equally long time of getting unc and unf hardware here in Denmark ;)
Yea, the imperial section is a lot bigger. :)
I need one !
it's coming!
@@rennch. what do you think the price for your kit going to be ,
Next project... Porsche 3.6 in a Subaru Brat.
ha ha! totally.
I've been wondering how you were going to get the serious engineering done and I can see the path forward now. Still, I can see many challenges looming - looking forward to seeing your solutions
Great Vid....I'm also looking to do an odd pairing...Porsche 911 GT3 PDK with a R2.8 Cummins turbo diesel....in a Vixen 21td. Would you mind sharing who made your adapter plate?
Big progress! :-)
one step at a time!
Prototyping easypeazy 😂 way to get that starter to fit. If you ever decide to change the name of your channel perhaps “No Mercy Engineering” might be apropos lol.
LOL!! I think calling what I do “engineering “ is a stretch.
Getting there mate. It always takes far more work than you think it will ;)
Great videos. I have a 73 911e with a bad motor. Did you finish building the kit? I need the plate the most.
@0:55 Yes, it is always about choosing your poison. Either you pick Subaru engine and transmission and pay about 2000 for a conversion kit, choose a Porsche transmission and you need an adapter plate or pick the whole Porsche drivetrain. :)
High five!✋✋🤟
Subbed.
Circle of life...lol!! :) BTW, you may want to put some tape over the throttle body opening to keep dust/debris out. Keep up the great work!
GREAT idea
Crem de la crem?
This adapter plate is a simple CMM, CAD, machine work. I can knock this things off in half a work day and supply it with correct fasteners for no guesswork. Surprised your adapter supplier didn’t supply the fasteners or at least a BOM for the fasteners.
Don't forget if you have 100k on the EZ30 change the belt tensioner and idle pulley. The bearings wear out. When they crap themselves you can damage the aircon.
I believe the ez30 /ez30d (not really any such thing as an ez30r) has a timing chain...so...no belt or tensioner pulleys but definitely have chain tensioners that should be changed before swapping that engine in.
I have looked at the ez30//d/r for performance applications and it just doesn't make financial sense.
The ej207/257 can produce more power cheaper than the ez engines.
Most Subaru guys feel the fa20dit is a step backwards.
I am considering swapping an fa20dit or ej207/ej257 into a Boxster S.
The Boxster is an automatic but I may switch to an sti 6 speed converted to "fwd". If I stick with the automatic I will have to figure out how to make the zf8hp55 (Audi awd trans) work in the Boxster chassis.
Love this build!
What is a built without a mess lol. Come on Michael we want to see and hear the grey Porsche too. Keep it up bro 👍🏼
Noted to both of you...I'll include it soon.
Third watch👍🏼 keep em coming..but keep that bottom end closed!
Would like to see the weld & finishing whenever
I'll do it soon!
Finally 😎👍
Lol, I'm trying, I'm trying...
@@rennch. well it was never going to be straight forward 👍
Nice work again. But that notch looks scary. I’d fabricate a cover for the notch, it could bolt on with the Starter.
GREAT idea.
Nice video. Is it posible to replace a 915 gearbox by a Subaru gearbox or similar ? 915 Is a pain..
What fascinates me is his not realizing how much of the bell housing had to come off and then some
Why is that “fascinating”? It’s a prototype.
is the adapter plate/kit for sale yet?
very notch,so cut, such hole!
ROFL
Any update on the adapter availability?
Here is a Like !!!!
🤘
Is this adapter kit available to buy anywhere yet? price?
Will this fit an ej257 to a 1980 924T?
Mike, do you have a kit ready to roll? I have a 911 roller in need of a kit. Your work has inspired others. I would like to be your first customer.
not yet !
👏
Thanks Robbo.
I was typing that you should try Mcmaster-Carr right when you said that's what you did :)
Trying to find me a 911 roller. As I never could afford one out right. So may end up this route. So subscribed.👍 hopefully you'll be around an a helping hand if an when I do it.
Jay, I'm here for you!
Momentum...
Any resolution/ conclusion/ additional development with the adapter and g96? I can't find any mention of it in your later videos and you haven't been on your thread on Pelican in a bit.
I need to make sure it functions with my current build which is in paint so I haven’t been able to test it yet.
👍
Thanks bud
👍👍
The reason I found your channel is because I want to put an EZ30 into a 911. I'd be very interested if you were to make a kit from all of this.
Especially if you were able to make it available for the price you estimated!!
Also, I would like to see how you mounted the rear fenders.
Good! Did you search for that?
I was searching for "porsche 911 ez30 engine swap".
😮
I would think that there should be more parts and demand for Subaru Boxer to Porsche conversion.
Since I am definitely not an expert, this question may sound stupid. Is there a chance of the seal you will eventually build around the starter failing and allowing road dirt/debris to infiltrate the bell housing? I am blown away by your fearlessness!
I'll figure something out!
@@rennch. I am absolutely certain that you will :-)
@@rennch. will there be enough space with the starter and weld patch for the C, PP, and FW? Or did I miss that?
Would it be easier to get a reverse gear set for a subaru trasmission from subiegears?
No...and it also doesn't solve the problem for Boxster Cayman 996 owners.
🤟
This is very interesting 🤔 my cayman engine is border line dead and I was thinking of doing a LS3 engine swap but I would rather have a twin turbo Subaru engine... I wonder how hard it would to get this engine mod on my Cayman
Once we get the adapter plate dialed, it shouldn't be too terrible.
🤘🏻
