Always a treat to watch, thanks again for doing it Rob. I first met Charlie at the 2014 Rendezvous and it took till about 2019 for me to not be awestruck talking with him 😂
Charlie Campagna is one of Natures True Gentlemen, each year I enjoy having a conversation with Charlie and buying some knives from him at the GEC Rendezvous .. I was also looking forward to seeing you in person Rob, but my wife and I had to leave at about 1pm Thursday, maybe next year,,:)
Those "1 arm" blades became popular in America during and after the civil war, due to so many soldiers losing an arm in battle. And sadly enough, the same with our troops who came home from WW1 and WW2. Having a 1-arm blade in a pocket knife, almost always in a Barlow, really helped these wounded vets cope with daily cutting tasks.
I worked for an old guy in a hardware store in the 80's that loved pocket knives and he called the one armed opener a "one armed bandit". Thank you Jack Booker for teaching me to love traditional pocket knives. May he rest in peace.
Being a left handed Sicilian myself this make my heart drop, so many beautiful knives. Definitely going to buy one of his knives soon. Thanks for the upload!
Charlie is a great guy and definitely a legend. Let's hope Case and other similar companies start offering a nice Barlow again so one is not forced to pay exorbitant prices on the "secondary market" or play the lottery to obtain short runs of knives, a/k/a SFOs with their inevitable big price tags.
nice video. apostle p. if you could interview the man. Mr tony bose that would be a an interesting gift for many of us. would be nice to see his collection his work and a tour at his workshop
Those who are lucky enough to know Charlie and Joanne - simply for the lovely people they are. I own quite a few of Charlies SFO knives and they are more than just a knife - what you have when owning such a knife - is a knife and a knife pattern that has been resurrected from the past with such massive amounts of research and knowledge - the love that Charlie has for his knives and the pure Talent Of Bill Howard- GEC knives - are the reason why we at this modern day are enjoying such state-of-the-art workmanship of these designs from yesteryear. Rob- thank you for a great interview, I think you are very gracious throughout this video - again thank you. Duncan.
I have read Charlie's Barlow thread on blade forums and have watched this video a few times now. Just love everything about traditionals and the community. Bless, Rob.
Those who dug the one-handed knife should note that Knives Ship Free has several of them, new, for under $100. Perhaps now that their function is known, more people will buy them!
Charlie seems as if he loves his knives, I have a few favourites, I am finding that my GEC users are looking more like works of art the more I use them, which is sometimes dirty medium cutting. I keep them all clean and sharp, one of the main reasons I am using my GECs a lot is because they are looking better thr more I use them.A lot of knives have tactile beauty with practical usage, but some GECs have got me enjoying that special knife appreciation of good craftmanship in one of mans basic tools.
Fabulous!!
That was great!
Great interview Charlie........
God Bless Sir. 👍
