  • This is why I recommend that all new fish ALWAYS be put through a month (or longer) of quarantine. Disease has shown up two weeks into quarantine with some new fish I picked up locally. Let’s talk about it.

    Sorry to hear, but yes, the quarantine tanks. Keep your other fish from catching it as well. I see you got this under control. I use Ich-x salt and temp 80-85 if needed and when you catch things right away, it’s like not even an issue job Ben ! 👍🏻 that’s why we always watch and observer our fish. 😊

    All so true! I’ve made the quarantine mistake more than once because I’m a slow learner lol. Thanks for the great vid!

    Great points. And I 100% agree with not medicating unless you see signs of trouble. But I have also been guilty of not quarantining fish so far I had no issues. But in general I do quarantine my fish

    👍🤠 Good deal, you caught it. Back in the day I never heard about quarantine. I’d buy a fish and put it in my 125 (only tank) got ich once, remember it cost a lot to treat that. Don’t remember if I lost anything. Probably 40 years ago. (Curious, did you get the email I sent a couple weeks ago?)

    Hi Ben. Good catch! I was wondering when moving fish from your QT to the main tank, what your process was when acclimating to the new tank? Or just go from one tank to another? Thanks!

    👍🏻😎 You're not alone Ben. I just bought 20 Black Neon Tetras a couple of weeks ago and put them in my quarantine tank and about 7-10 days later I had an outbreak of Epistylis. A disease that is often mistaken for Ich that comes from dirty aquariums in pet stores. I have been treating the tank with Seachem Paragaurd and aquarium salt for 3 days now and things are already clearing up. I too am a firm believer of quarantining fish.

    Quarantining the fish doesn’t cost you anything. In the 1990s before UA-cam age, I got burned a couple of times. Always always always quarantine.

    Ben, I have to admit that if I buy a fish at a fish store I do quarantine them. However, I buy my online fish from Dan. I don't quarantine them because I feel he is such a responsible seller. Am I playing with fire?

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  12 днів тому +1

      Dan is 100% Legit ... but the stress of being shipped can bring to the surface something that wasn't showing up while under Dan's care. I'm sure Dan quarantines new fish he gets and possibly puts them through a regimen of med's but I would error on the side of caution and still quarantine for 30 days if possible.

    I usually turn the temp up to 87, and within 3 day's its all gone.

      @BenOchart  14 днів тому +1

      A good way to go but not sure about going that route with fish that prefer lower temperatures (the White Clouds in there). Not sure they could tolerate it.

    • @AquariumArmy
      @AquariumArmy 14 днів тому +1

      @BenOchart you as always, are 100% right about that. Luckily, I keep a variety of fish that normally live in 80 degrees. So that its much easier to deal with.

    Just be carefull and use half strength solution if you have scaleless fish like catfish.

      Ich Attack is one of the options that is gentle and safe. I started using it when I had Clown Loaches.
