    About Location:
Pitung's House in Marunda, North Jakarta, Indonesia, is one of the few remaining Betawi stilt houses. This stilt house is a representation of the Betawi people who live in the coastal areas. This house has become a museum and is included in the cultural heritage. It is not known exactly when the Pitung House was built. It is estimated that the building was built in the 20th century. The stilt house which is often also called the Marunda High House is similar to the traditional house of the Bugis. This house previously belonged to Haji Safiuddin, a wealthy merchant from a fishing port from Makassar (other sources say Haji Safiuddin was skipper sero, or ship tycoon). Haji Safiuddin is believed to be a close friend of Si Pitung. Pitung is believed to have only stopped at the house a few times (estimated in the 1890s). Pitung's last stop was in order to hide from the pursuit of the Dutch army on charges of robbing. The government of DKI Jakarta first renovated the stilt house which was supported by 40 pillars in 1972. Earlier in the same year this building was purchased by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government from the descendants (heirs) of H. Safiuddin. The building is now a museum and is included in the cultural heritage based on the Governor's Decree No. 475 of 1993 and the Ministerial Decree No. 140 / M / 1998. The institution that named the original Betawi Coastal house as Pitung's House is the National Museum.
In 2010 Pitung's House was renovated again by the government with a budget of Rp. 3 billion. The renovations carried out were raising the building as high as 4 meters (to avoid high tides), replacing the original floor which was made of bamboo slats and then replaced with wood. Two years later, the North Jakarta Culture Service carried out renovations again. The renovation with a budget of Rp 2.1 billion was only carried out on other buildings, courtyards and gates, fences surrounding Pitung's House. Although renovations were carried out several times, the original model of the building was preserved. To enter Si Pitung House, visitors must climb the stairs whose position is on the north side. Inside the house there is a living room measuring approximately 2 x 2.5 meters, a bedroom and bed, a dining room, and a kitchen leading to the back veranda.
