the head sculpt is better than it is in the pictures.
i thought marvel select got the head sculpt on point (movie accurate) but from neck down is just bad.
i wish they just gave us a combination of 2 with these: backpack, suitcase , web wings, lazer gun thatsplit the ship, glowing thingy, ultron's head, cat, the store owner, sandwich, laptop, yellow coat, deli-grocery store, bike, aunt may, ned, washington monument, atm machine, school bus, the guy in the interrogation scene or warehouse instead of magnetic hands & feet.

Great review Robo! I'm an SHF fan through & through as a result of it being the most consistent line I'd ever bought in terms of quality, DURABILITY and sculpt. Having said that, and even owning and really liking my SHF Spidey, I can completely understand how to most people this IS the superior figure...and I guess it all comes down to two things: how they both look in neutral posing and how both heads look in comparison to an actual human being. MAFEX is still way behind regarding human faces (for all the shit they sometimes get, I've yet to see a line even approaching the level of render & likeness SHF has 80% of the time), but I'm glad they're fixing a lot of their mistakes and this is by far the best live action CBM figure they released. Magnets are a really cool addition too. Only time will tell if they can overcome the durability of the joints/rubber-like hips. Mafex Spidey is along with Figma Hulk the best options in the 1/12 scale to go with SHF.
One last thing: Tom Holland is actually pretty short in comparison to Chris Evans/Cap so in that department I'd say the SHF Spidey still scales better.

An excellent, fun & honest review as always Mr Robo ! And your several cries of "Good Grief" brought back my memories of Good Ol' Charlie Brown days (ahhh) ! I made the call 2 weeks ago to go Mafex over the SHF on the Spidey, even though I'm usually a 100% SHF fan (sans Boba Fett ROTF, Phasma & 2001). However I did think the Holland face would turn out only so-so, pffffft. Your review gives me confidence I made the right call on what would otherwise have been an expensive guess. PS - I also had an "around the world package" happen on a toy a year ago from another online store - mine went from USA to Hungary (?) then Australia !
I'm still sticking with DHL even after this incident because it's only been once while the rest of the times have been blazing fast. When I saw it hit Belgium I reported it and they actually called me to try to work things out, even though nothing could be done other than sit and wait. But yeah, it's kind of crazy when things like that happen, why Belgium? Or Hungary? Haha.

Great figure cant wait for mine to arrive to go in my spider-man collection this year because of the movie we have definitely been spoiled with all these sweet spidey figs companies have been pumping out, expected a bit more from the Holland head sculpt but i guess i can sort that with some paint wizardry.
Those second pair of open hands look like they're for replicating the classic "OH NO SPIDER-MAN CAN'T REACH THAT PERSON/WEBLINE AND SOMEBODY'S ABOUT TO DIE" scenes.
Been looking forward to this review! Hoping for a definitive spidey and as long as the joints hold up I can look past other issues for better colours and proportions.

I just got mine and the neck for the masked head doesn’t have the webbing on it. Looks like it’s the same as the unmasked neck just with red paint. Is it supposed to be like this or did I get screwed?

Great review Robo, was waiting on your review to see which one I should buy (I like the skinnier overall look of the shf but the proportions are off as you said and this one just looks so much better), As for the interchangeable feet being so tight, I think the peg on the feet is designed to be that tight because the previous Amazing Spiderman 2 (DX version) figure also had a pair of magnetic interchangeable feet but since the peg was not tight at all and the feet would pop off very easily (Im betting Mafex learnt from their mistake and made the peg tighter where you could change the feet but they would stay on this time). That ASM2 version came with a magnetic wall as well, I'll probably end up posing my two Mafex movie spidermen on that wall.
I'm always happy when a company learns from their mistakes. Someone else mentioned that the joints are tighter because the older Spider loosened over time. I'm completely good with joints that are too tight!
WAY better than the Figuarts one for sure, especially in the aesthetics department. The unmasked headsculpt could've been better though, but incredible figure nonetheless! Best Homecoming Spidey figure out there yet! 👌
You could the see the holland head as a bonus. It has decent paint application and sculpt, its just the colors, so they're on the right path!
Yeah that SH Figuarts Homecoming Spidey has a bland red and doesnt have any extra sheens or whatever you call ot. It was way to bland in color and its ball joints were too exposed.

Great review! I did a few modifications that made this spidey even more amazing and I wanted to share with ya! I replaced the magnets on his feet with neodymium ones that work way better than the stock ones. I also took the magnet piece that came with the amazing yamaguchi spider-gwen and put it on the web line that has the port (you can get a great shot of him pulling up metal pieces!) I painted his hip-mounted web cartridges and added just the smallest amount of lotion to his hip that was really sticking and now it articulates smoothly. Cheers!

So after watching your really very good review, I have decided to stick with the figuarts. Maybe i am biased as a figuarts collector and looking for reasons to not like the Mafex, but here's my reasoning-
-Those fingers look like he put loads of elastic bands round each finger
-The masked head looks kind of off to me in some angles? I prefer how the figuarts head looks
-Not forearm swivel or any way to line the web-shooters up with the hands
-Magnets aren't very useful for me personally (but i will admit it they are very cool accessories)
-Unmasked head doesn't really look worth it, but it is something the figuarts didn't do at all
-I really like the phone and backpack accessories with the figuarts, as well as the eye options
-The hips on the figuarts look sooooo much better, much smoother joints, and almost identical in range of movement
So just from reviews vs the figuarts I have in hand, figuarts takes it, but then again, maybe I'm just a figuarts fanboy... Great review as always!
Nothing wrong with that, man. I still dig the SHF too, it's actually still on the shelf right beside the MAFEX for some odd reason. I like walking by and comparing them over and over.
This came out nice, I like my SHF, plastic binned/might sell the Legends and have the Mezco one pre-ordered. Thinking of making the Mezco Homecoming one as my Mezco default Spidey since he looks better than the classic and close enough to be "Mezco style comic bookish" even with the MCU look.
Pretty fucking awesome figure Beardy, looks like the perfect balance between articulation and looks, wasnt too interested in these Spiderman figures but I might be tempted to go for it
My sh figuarts broke at the waste just cause i turned it....but im getting the mafex as a replacement,im a little bumbed out about the sh figuarts but hopefully this will be an upgrade lol

I was on the fence with SH Spidey and the ML looked ugly to me plus I was not too sure about this one regarding size and everything since the only other Mafex I have is Kylo Ren but I'm happy with what I see and will be getting this Spidey... eventually.

i love this figure alot from what i see but i love the contrast of the figuarts hands being a little small and the mafex hands being kinda big lol
I think you've pushed me to getting this one. I've been watching reviews of the Mafex and Figuarts and I had no idea which one to get, but I think I'm going to get this one now 😂 I was waiting all day thinking, I swear if Robo makes me want the Mafex then I'll be damned, and you've done it, and I'm damn glad you did. I do have one question though, do you think of the joints will wear out over time, and does the figure feel fragile? Thanks for the great reviews, I salute you sir!! :D
My Mafex Spider - Man ( Homecoming ) has some noticeable quality control issues ... primarily paint over spray and even under spray that although minor by most collector standards are hard to live with considering the price point . Have you ever dealt with Mafex ( Medicom ) regarding any quality control issues specifically in terms of requesting a replacement figure ?
No experience with that, even though I probably should have after C-3PO and Superman.
Shfiguarts proportion and texture just bothering me so much. Mafex is much better this time and comes with headsculpt as well.
Yeah, the crazy textures don't really stand out at you until you get it next to something a little more realistic and subdued.
Fwoosh you now made me regret the shf Spiderman and now I'm trying to get the mafex spiderman for being the superior one. Dang you and these amazing reviews. 😂

Skeletal articulation in the arm is something they've always done, my TASM1 figure has it and they all have since then. Some of them just fall off easier
Also, do you think the legs have the same amount of articulation as the Figuarts or does the figure in general have more articulation?
The SHF legs come up slightly more tighter towards the torso but both are basically the same range.
The Fwoosh Sorry to be a pain, but do you think the joints will get loose over time? I've heard good things about the joints on this figure, but considering I'll have to buy this through Ebay, I wouldn't want for the joints to eventually wear out overtime, its why I'm now considering the Figuarts.
I told everyone that the mafex was going to be the better one out of the 2 and to me it's way more film accurate! That's why I only preordered this one and not the mafex! 🤘 definitely the best Spider-Man homecoming action figure! 💯🔥
Hi, I recently watched your review and I also thought that the mafex version was the best so I started looking for it online but I just can’t find one with a decent price! I was wondering if you could tell me what shop you bought this item from?
Any issues with joints becoming loose and getting floppy or fall apart-y? (as you call it lol) Your opinion carries a lot of weight for me, so I'll probably get the Mafex Spidey. (I was kind of leaning that way already, but ya know. Details!)
Haha, he's definitely not fall aparty, that was totally me wrenching the arm too hard when it came off, and even then it went back on solid. And I've messed with it quite a bit, no looseness so far. I even nailed a four point stance after the review went up. This is the one to get.
Haha, I did the exact same thing with the arm, but it did go back in after pushing it all the way.
How are the magnets doing for you? I can get my version to stick to anything.
The magnets are weak, definitely have to use three points. Even then it tries to slide. May need to find more powerful magnets and try to switch them out.
Mafex and SHF proved that Revoltech is full of shit because these Spider-Man figures have fantastic articulation and it doesn't sacrifice the sculpt as much. They can vanilla pose too. I get Revoltech is stylized but for so was the SHF. Maybe their style needs some refinement

JigglyChocolateman The sculptor is Katsuhisa Yamaguchi. The line isn’t randomly named. He has sculpted plenty of fantastic faces, they may just not be to your liking.
all i can say is Mafex > Figuarts. Seems Mafex is starting to keep up if not surpass figuarts in some figures, sometimes I feel figuarts makes mistakes because they are 2 busy trying to get their version out 1st. Im still a figuarts fan but mafex is becoming my new fave very slowly

Yet another AWESOME video Robo !!! I know this is an older video but I’m still hoping for an answer. In your opinion, which makes a better on the shelf display piece, This Mafex Spidey or the Amazimg Yamaguchi Spidey ??? Anybody feel free to answer. I can’t decide which one to purchase.
That depends on the display. Are you talking comic or MCU? I have both displayed in separate places because both are amazing. And I have separate displays for movie and comic. But if you are twisting my arm I'd go with the MAFEX. It's just an overall balanced figure, both in look and articulation.

The only problem is the eyes on the head. It sits a little too high in position to be completely movie accurate compared to figuarts

Yeah, HLJ is my go-to for MAFEX too, for some reason they are usually a bit cheaper. Might have to wait for more of the domestic shops to get it.
0:41 I hear ya, I procrastinated with the whole effort of reviewing toys either by blog or by video mainly because I was too enthralled in own toys. It's a tad frustrating though when you have so many unreviewed items in your collection, which is a collection in of itself. Don't know how I'm ever going to kick this- *finds a tower of brown packages on doorstep*- what was I saying?
Haha, yup, that's why I've taken to doing 5 or 6 rapid fires in one video every now and then, just to mow through the growing inbox pile. Plus it gets more toys on the shelf, haha.
Now that i think about it, I rarely see reviewers do that. Sure, many do entire waves of one series, do mini reviews in update videos, but not really dedicated videos going over products of different lines so fast.
Goes to show how hobbies force you to be creative.
This may be the first mafex figure I'll buy over a s.h. figure.

Yeah, I think they did that to keep the extreme range of movement.
I think the range of movement on the head is already enough that it doesn't need a "pencil neck" to get more extreme. Mafex one has good shape of the head and a decent range of movement in my opinion.

Other than that I think this is the import Spidey i'm going to have to buy.

Have your leg joints loosened up over time? Mine are squeaky tight.
I haven't messed with it a lot but some of that squeak went away.
That's good to know. I don't have a problem with tight joints as long as that's how they are supposed to be that way.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Even though the MAFEX wins in my book I still have them both right beside each other on the main shelf. I....don't know why.
dang, why did this figure have to be good! luckily for me i like the homemade suit more for some odd reason lol so waiting for that one, i really want a mezco version of that one, but so far it's only been ML and the upcoming SHF one, i hope the other companies do that suit too.

My arm fell off at the shoulder too but it was the shoulder joint
Is there any way to loosen up the hips? They are so tight that I almost feel like I'm going break it.
I've heard of people using shock oil or even a drop of dishsoap to get them to move a little easier.

My Sh figurearts broke when BigBadToyStore shopped it at the hip and so I have to complain or get the mafex which I do love a lot
