Great video! Is there any backend benefit/enhanced security by preventing any editing for the entire workbook upon initial entry (file -> passwords -> prevent editing = making it read-only) vs protecting/"locking" all sheets/ workbook from within the file itself (Review Tab -> Protect Workbook/Protect Sheet)? Other than differences in read-only versus locking from a frontend accessibility standpoint (still can unhide arrays in read-only for example), is it more advantageous to use both forms/"layering" of security, or will the locking-features from within a file be enough?
Thanks for the Video, I would like to know if you have a worksheet where several parties have to input data, but each must not be able to see the other's input. Is there a way to do this
Thank you for this video, I was wondering what if I have a workbook with multiple sheets ' taps ' and I want to select all sheets to delete something but I want a single sheet 'tap' to be protected to it can't be deleted but I can also deleted the other data in the other sheets, can you help me please
Videos are really great. I would like to know in a single dashboard how to create a different view. To illustrate when employees click it should show one specific sheets others should sheet be automatically hidden. When managers click the excel all the sheets should be viewed how to do this??
Hello, thank you for info. Very helpful. I have a questions about protecting sheets and hiding columns. I can’t seem to sort or filter once I do those functions. Any advice?
I got "promoted" to take care of MTBF in my company and that helps a lot - thank you! What if all options like view only are unavailable? Nobody else is on this workbook while trying to make a change so IDK why I can't pick anything from the Info page/protect. I have the password but maybe it's because I'm not an author of this file?
How do you make it read only (WITHOUT the "edit anyway" button) but users can save their own copy that they can enter values in? I have a sheet that everyone fills in their own data, but I don't want the master template messed with.
How can I protect the 1st page of the sheet while editing the format of the other sheet? Like for example, I want to change the column sizes of the 2nd sheet but It always affects the 1st page.
Nice I jusy want to is there anyway to protect the sheet or to unable editing of the whole file.. Thanks buddy for making this easy for us to learn. I would like to call you Sir.
If I make my workbook Read Only but still want people to use it just not change the master copy, would they just need to select Save as and then fill in the unprotected cells?
I found your channel for the UA-cam search bar. I did learn quite a bit today. I am after a very specific protection setup. I have a 2 page proposal for insulation clients. I want to protect all of page 1, and on page 2; but as part of page 2 I want to leave a row of boxes for the client to click in to pick out options to insulate different scopes in their custom homes. Your assistance please. Thank you.
I have a colleague that needs to lock cells and protect sheet but when she does it stops her using a hyperlink? she needs to put this into a document that people can hit the link and be able go to fill in certain open cells. How do you keep hyperlink available when you protect a sheet? Or is she doing something incorrectly that the hyperlink is greyed out?
Can someone help me lock a cell on an excel spreadsheet that I am accessing from one drive? The protection link is not available. Only the Number, Alignment, Font, and Border options are showing.
What if I want to make an entire workbook edit only but would still like a limited few people to have password access to view. But only have to enter the password in a box that pops up when they try to edit.
Thank you for this video. I found this by searching google. Quick question, I created a workbook with a dashboard with pivot tables. I want the user to be able to look at the various data but don’t want them to be able to change any of my data. How can I do that? I’ve already hidden my data sheet. Thank you in advance.
I understand how to give editable access to a column but is there a way for the owner of the document to always have editable access to everything without having to click protect and unprotect everytime they want to make a change to the locked columns?
How do you lock all columns and tabs with the exception of the last one so when over hundreds if not 1000s people fill-in the sheet they don't modify or alter any information from the person previous to them? I want them to be able to see the fill info but can only input their info only.
How can I do a read only, but have multiple people use a password to edit at one time? When I put a password, only 1 person can edit. We have a team of people editing and a team of people viewing.
