- My second game of General D'Armee 2 and I am still totally impressed with this set of rules. Thanks again for everyone who helped me out with rules corrections and tactical suggestions after my first game of GDA2.
This battle is the continuation of my fictional 1815 Napoleonic Campaign

As always Steve epic beyond all proportions. Love how you take the time to pan across the battlefield and show the massed troops and sea of flags. Your enthusiasm is infectious. like others here I don't mind the long videos - great to paint with - and you do a wonderful job showing and explaining mechanics. looking forward to the next one.

I enjoy watching YOU play Gd'A but it's definitely not for me, way too many barriers to taking action. It seems to me that's the primary objective of the game designer. Plus, there's all the signage, I understand its a giant battle with the need to identify the units without some kind of telescope to read the flags but then each battalion has to be tracked for status. Can the French statistically stand up to the British in a musketry duel as opposed to Blk Pwdr ? I'm surprised you could function at all, didn't they stuff your head with a couple of pounds of cotton wading after your surgery? They did when a former girl friend had similar surgery. I had some minor surgery as well, last week, just taking of a Basel?, Basil? cell off my cheek. Another day, another scar, oh well, I once had a X-ray tech ask me if I was a stunt man or something. Stay well, I'll be watching. Hugs

As for GDA2, the French probably shouldn't have been able to go toe to toe with the British (me getting a rule wrong was very beneficial to the Emperor).
I think that is what I like so much about Historical Minature Wargaming. There are so many rules for each time period. It allows you to find the one that floats your own boat!

Nice touch with the whiteboard. Makes it easy to overview the troops you have. I think I going to do something similar but on A3 paper. But I don't have as big a table as you nor as many regiments............

Both of them are from Bootle. My Mum is a Red, but my Dad my was a hard core Evertonian

I might have almost been a neighbour to your mum and dad, I was born just off Stanley road (your folks will know it) but the family moved over to the Wirral when I was just a toddler. Red and Blue under one roof 🤣. I remember those days and the fights (good natured banter) Half the family were "toffees" (blue) and the other half, me included, were Red .YNWA
My Mum thinks that is awesome. She reminded me that is right by the Strand where my Nanna used to take me when we were over to visit.
Sorry Liverpool kind of fell apart these last few weeks. It has been tough to watch sometimes
What I also like particularly in your videos is that you show all the mechanics and impulses of the game. I learn the rules by your reports.

I can give you some pointers in regards to pronunciation: General d'Armee is pronounced General dar-MAY. Tournai is Toor-NAY, Ath is ATT, Enghien is like Ang-YEN.

Thanks Michael! I appreciate that. Originally, the table was 8 foot wide, which I couldn't reach the center of, so I sawed 6 inches off each side. 🤣
@@basement1908 Your arms must be much longer than mine Sir! I use a 5 1/2 x 11' foot table and my theatre is mostly in Spain. I have British and Portuguese troops versus the French with Italian and Swiss allies. I plan to add some Spanish and, being inspired by you, some Polish allies for the French (my wife is also Polish born). I will most certainly keep visiting Basement 1908! Thank you for all you do.

Very nice video - your table is quite impressive! I noticed at the 28:00 mark you fired an artillery battery over the heads of a friendly unit in front of it. I couldn’t tell from the angle, but it appeared that the friendlies were closer than 12” from the battery. If so the battery wouldn’t have been able to fire.

In the hour mark, the French Grand battery was hesitant, they can only fire at effective range and directly forward. Both batteries fired at the British Skirmish line, it looks like one if not both were out of arc. Thanks for putting these videos out, great stuff.
I believe the French Grand Battery that had both batteries on 4+ hits would require 3 Cassions for both to Assault fire. 1 for each battery over 4+ and a third to allow a second battery to Assault fire.
I totally screwed up the assault fire and caisons (plus #ADCs). Thanks for the assistance.

@@basement1908 Our group is still working through the nuance of the rules. We have played one Corps level game and have another coming up. The Corps order dice are a bit confusing. Per the Command phase order, the Corps Commander rolls and spends his Command… but how do you know if you want to use “Ride the Line” if you haven’t rolled for Brigade Command Rolls. After watching this video I am thinking of allowing Corps Commanders to use their Order any time in the Command Phase.

Very cool video. Man, I hope when I am a bit older and have more time on my hands, I can work on my armies more and one day have armies half your size at least. The games you play look amazing, really a very cool looking game, and the sort of collection so many of us aspire to.

Excellent game. I think the only thing I would say is you appear to apply the Drilled bonus to all firing units rather than just those British or KGL units.
I had a question regarding that as well. It seemed the drill rule is quit generic (page 8) "The drilled characteristic for close order infantry represents troops with excellent musketry drill. Drilled infantry receive an additional one casualty dice when firing. This is a characteristic for grendadier and line infantry only: it is not applied to veterans or Elites." It doesn't say just British and KGL. I elevated my KGL to Veteran just because of the lack of clarification.
My understanding is that the national army characteristics on page 97 are that it only applies to the British and KGL due to their superior musketry training. Just like the following rule only really applies to French recruits (nicknamed Marie-Louise's) or Prussian Landwehr.
An argument could be made for the French receiving it for the period from 1805 to 1809 depending on how big of a difference there is with the other nations in that time period.
I like that. Definitely some good supporting documentation. I remember reading that now, I simply did not retain it. Thank you for the assist my friend 👍
@@basement1908 Drilled rule could also apply to units such as Prussian Grenadiers in 1806, etc. While standard Line British and KGL would also receive this bonus. Veterans and elites don't require this bonus as they already have a fire bonus.
