  • Way back in the 2000's, LCN Network out of Houma Louisiana did a ghost story about Oak Alley Plantation. Here's the 15 minute video they put together. [Note: we believe we have their permission to post this, we will take it down if they tell us otherwise.]

I visited here last August. While on the second floor on the backside (away from the tree's) there's a large stairway to the upper rooms and the attic. I heard children's shoes stomping and laughing (or crying?) like someone was running around above us. I looked up confused, we weren't allowed up there and I didn't see any little kids on the tour or with the other groups. I look around to see if anyone hears that, no one seems to notice not even the guide. Then suddenly the door slams shut above me, and then silence. Like whatever it was, was running laughing/crying to their room and slammed the door shut behind them. Super weird. I didn't say anything and later asked my girlfriend if she heard what I was talking about. She said "No I didn't hear anything, I was wondering why you were looking up so confused." Crazy. That would be my first "ghost" story ever lol
Also I want to add I tried looking up above me and from what I saw I couldn't see anyone up there. I even asked the guide if we were allowed up in the attic and she said "No we don't let people go up there, that's where we store a lot of antiques and such."

I stayed in cottage #4. My gf and I were sitting outside in the evening. I heard footsteps in the grass but didn't see anyone. Figured it was an animal or something. We went inside the cottage. My gf was in the bathroom and I heard a loud clicking noise like someone was moving the deadbolt on the door. My gf came out of the bathroom and I asked her if she heard that. She said she didn't but that while she was in the bathroom she heard tapping on the window. Super creepy!

I really liked this little ghost story video. Everyone seems so relaxed and almost accepting. It reminds me of having once watched a Southern author interviewed on Dick Cavett and who still lived on the family estate. Every now and again the author's grandfather would appear rocking in a chair on the veranda. All the family members saw him at one time or another. Dick Cavett asked if the apparition didn't frighten them, and the author (whose name I can't recall) said it didn't frighten anyone, just sometimes startled them, and it (the apparition) was just part of the old place like the trees. I wish I could remember who the author was.

+nahnni To be honest, ghosts are very common throughout Louisiana. Nearly every native Louisianian is used to them...even expects them. I've had many experiences with them, and they are harmless. I once lived in a slave quarter apartment in the French Quarter of New Orleans and a ghost lived there with me. I assumed she was a black woman since she would sometimes call out my name with an black French accent...clear as a bell. Sometimes I would come home from work and things would be moved, or if I fell asleep watching TV, she would turn the TV and lights off, and sometimes I could just "feel" her presence. I think she was trying to take care of me. I don't know what her name was, but I called her Claudette. I'll never forget her...and I even miss her sometimes.

I used to work as a therapist with elderly people. By Friday I was tired of my usual therapy so we would tell ghost stories. They had the most interesting stories! I enjoyed it so much. I should have recorded them.

just left the Plantation... I'm so sad....it was such a beautiful site to see in person ,yet kinda creepy at night .....we slept in room 5A and my husband and I decided to stroll the grounds at 11:00pm at night since we could since we were guest and OMG !!!as we were walking into the Mansion we were greeted by an eery sound ,more like a mad hizzing snake right under the room where the last owner Andrew Stewart died.....so we took off back to our cottage outback in the mansion grounds..... Every one ,listen up .....this is also a very romantic spot...highly encourage you to put this on your bucket list....a real must see!!!
    peace out ✌from

I visited there with my mum in 2013. While upstairs after viewing the front two bedrooms, the tour guide gathered everyone in the hallway inbetween the two rooms. You could not enter the blue room in the left (if you were to be looking towards the front of the house) but the 2 doorways that lead into the room were open and you could walk into the room about a metre in a small roped off area. I was standing in one of the doorways with my mum to my left while the guide was talking. There was no one behind me or to the right, there wasn't any room for anyone to fit either. While trying to listen I felt someone give me a couple of pushes on my right shoulder. I kinda brushed it of and made a notion to my mum and whispered sssh, in a minute. I turn my attention back to the guide and was quickly shoved again on the shoulder. This time more aggressively and more time's then the first. As if someone was trying to get my attention and was annoyed that I was ignoring them. This time I spun around towards my mum and glared at her and asked her "what!? What do you want? I'm trying to listen!" She just gave me a strange look and shrugged. After the tour guide had finished talking we made our way out the front onto the veranda (gallery) and I asked her what the hell did she keep pushing me for inside?! She said, I didn't touch you! When? I replied, while the guide was talking, you shoved me two separate time's. The second time you really have me a couple of good pushes! She said something smart back at me and then said, if someone pushed you it wasn't me. Plus I was standing on your left! Why would I reach around behind you to push your right shoulder? I wasn't aware of the plantations rumours to be haunted until we were speaking to a couple in the cafe and they told us that was the main reason they were there to see it. After I told them what had happened, I then started to wonder if I had been nudged to get my attention or if I was actually being shoved as if someone wanted me out of that room?

Maarukka58: The facts as presented are not quite accurate.
Louise was living in New Orleans with her mother when the accident occurred. She received extensive care from the family doctor, but eventually the leg had to be amputated.
Louise lived with her mother for another 10 years or so before her Mother passed away. It was then that Louise CHOSE to join the convent in St. Louis.
There are extensive details on OakAlley's FaceBook page, if you want to learn more!

Daughter of Zion you're a good Christian...how does it feel to live on the righteous side of hell? Your Moore ancestors contributed to the genocide of my people including the Chanka and Taino people. You probably haven't even heard of them have you? Don't cast stones when you live in a glass house. You stole our gold right alongside the English and Spanish. So hush your mouth hypocrite!

JJ All they’re not responsible or can be held responsible for the actions of their ancestors, that’s silly to blame it on them when they didn’t do anything of the sort.

That is one sick culture. 1800s? In here family would supported the leg lost woman. Not to hidden her into a convet. That is just sick!

How do you know "the family" hid her into a convent? Maybe it was her choice. And judging the past by standards of the present is not accepted among serious historians as good practice.

Maybe the house need an exorcism or these souls are asking for prayer. Louisiana is very Catholic, I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to help these souls. Although there is a possibility that they could be demons. They should have the house exorcised. I went there in person in the early nineties. I was impress by the beauty of the house and the history. I remember a large magnolia tree on the property and we had lunch in their onsite restaurant. Of course I had to walk the distance of the oaks that created and umbrella meeting from both side in the center. I never spotted any ghosts. I do believe that those that did are telling the truth but its not something to ignored or celebrated. I think it should be addressed. Someone should call an exorcist priest.
