Sunny - Pat Martino (Guitar Transcription)

- Guys, as this video got a lot of views I would like to clarify a few things: this "transcription" I made is from a long time ago, I used it as a study for the Berklee test. So it's not completely faithful to the recording, some things are adaptations I made of the way I played. I posted it as a way to help other students better understand what happens on this solo. It's not perfect, but I think it helps!

RIP Maestro. There will never be another Pat Martino.
One of my favourite Pat Martino tracks. A stunning piece of transcribing, which I will never even attampt to play. Quite superb. Folks may want to know that Pat is currently very unwell and needs support for medical and other expenses and has a gofundme page to support him.
Even the greats need medical expense assistance in the USA, that's really awful.
RIP Pat. :(
This is the one that got me hooked on Pat Martino back in the 70's. I was in my late teens and was fortunate to have a guitar instructor that introduced me to Pat's music, particularly this album and tune. He knew this solo note for note and taught it to me. I'm in my mid 60's now and try to play it every now and then. I can fake it pretty good but you know how that goes.
Easily in my top 5 jazz guitar solos of all time. Maybe my #1
Yes indeed!
R.I.P.
Unbelievable :(
OMG this brings back so many memories. I used to have this album and wore it out!
Pat was a superlative musician, and a kind and generous man. Rest in peace maestro.
Thanks so much! This is how i came to see your youtube channel ..a lot of work here! Much appreciated i cant wait to learn some of these lines😍❤️
Outstanding!
I started this one years ago, but didn't make it to the finish line like you did.
Fantastic work.
Killer track- and you transcribed it! Awesome!
Brilliant work. I actually took a half-hearted stab at this track not long ago. The sheer velocity of the lines really adds to the difficulty, at least for me. Cheers.
Just amazing!
Great job! Thank you!!!
Great PM Solo, as well as Transcription. Cheers
Much love!

If not for the accompaniment, I wouldn’t have guessed that to be Sunny. I have heard another version where it is easy to distinguish. Either way, Pat Martino = genius.
It’s a fucking solo wtf did you expect bet you just discovered what a solo is
Este sólo es una locura

Greg Howe's version of 'Sunny', though very different, is similarly harmonically rich and inventive, well worth a listen. Pat was sublime, a gift to the guitar world.
Greg Howe? Give me a break it sounds like a bunch of noise the same way he butchers up Giant Steps. He's a good player but his take on some jazz standards just don't fit.
@@mr.b4444 Yes, Greg Howe. He's made great career out of 'butchering', LOL.
@@GreenDistantStar I like Howe's playing on sunny a lot. If you understand jazz you understand what he is doing. Some harmonic similarities in his approach, too . Just because he uses disotrtion doesn't mean he can't play jazz.
@@mr.b4444 Any musician who calls Greg Howes playing noise I would bet is not as very exciting player to watch and lacks a ferocious side to their playing. Sure, you can play clean Pat Martino 16th notes but Greg like myself is a rock guitarist who appreciates the sonic possibilities of jamming over a song like Sunny and combining both jazz, blues, rock & fusion. Just my two cents and I saw Greg Howe in NYC a month ago at the Iridium and the man kicked ass. On Bass was another noise maker Stu Hamm who kept the melodic low end flowing heavy the entire night.

Bro don't use this kinda of language here, please!!!!!!! I only listen to ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!

Why don't put the chords on music lines?
because I didn't want to! When I made this transcription I was studying the melodic lines, just listen and you hear the chords! peace!
Too bad ... no chords
It's a very known and simple song, you can find the sheet in any google images www.google.com/search?q=sunny+sheet+music&rlz=1C1GGRV_enBR751BR751&sxsrf=AOaemvIfd1ixFMCWsxzyL6yeHfwXCVqPkQ:1634733940493&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwiLvcy-gtnzAhXtqJUCHXg7ABYQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw#imgrc=xppzaID7MPYE_M
