FOR YOUR EYES ONLY | Raid at Kristatos’ warehouse

- 007 (Roger Moore) accompanies Milos Columbo (Topol) and his crew on a raid at Kristatos’ opium-processing warehouse in FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981). Director John Glen was pleased Topol joined the cast. He said: “He’s famous for Fiddler On The Roof, and I don’t think he can live it down. It’s rather like being an ex-James Bond, you can never shake it off.”
No over the top, pure old school action scene which was riveting all the way. For me it is among the top 10 action scenes in 007 franchise.
I love the old school gun shot should effects, just classic. Wouldn't work in modern movies, sound cheesy and out of place. Modern Bond (since Goldeneye) have much more realistic gun sound effects, more punch. But still love the classic gun sounds, works with the older movies. I did watch a few videos where someone placed modern gun effects over shoutouts in older movies, worked really well.
@@leecroft7311 Screw realism.
Roger Moore’s best turn as 007 in my opinion. This is a great Bond Movie.
Moore's Top 3 for me are this one , Octopussy and The Spy Who Loved Me.
Except for the opening sequence that was totally stupid.
@@stevearmstrong5324 not really. Just a certain cat loving super-criminal getting some 15+ years overdue comeuppance.
@@chrismc410 Yeah, really. "Mr. Bond! We can do a deal! I can buy you a delicatessen! In stainless steel!" GTFO out of here with that mess! Plus why bring back Blofeld, in such a brief scene, 10 years and 5 movies later? Made no sense.
@@stevearmstrong5324 They brought him back to kill him off and send a message to McClory that they don't need Blofeld.
Bond and his allies performing a raid on the villain's base kind of is a staple/cliche of the series, but the comradery between Bond and Columbo is really believable and especially fun considering his crew are actually competent fighters who are not just bodies to be blown up or shot like some of the allies in Spy Who Loved Me or You Only Live Twice.
Or moonraker
You really just said these criminals are competent compared to the group of trained ninjas and the US/UK navy? 💀
@@alwaysOPEN4business I think they were referring to the fact that Columbo had a very, very small team compared to the huge teams that Bond and the villain had in the epic battle scenes.
@@fivebearrugs lol. That's not what they said at all.
@alwaysOPEN4business just because these fighters are working for organised crime now doesnt mean they weren't soldiers or special forces before. In fact, men like Kristatos and Columbo probably recruit ex-military personnel.. they'd want the best.
RIP Sir Roger Moore (October 14, 1927 - May 23, 2017), aged 89
RIP Chaim Topol (September 9, 1935 - March 8, 2023), aged 87
RIP Michael Gothard (June 24, 1939 - December 2, 1992), aged 53
You will be remembered as legends.
I love how good friendship Bond and the other guy had throughout the film
Yes, Columbo was one of the memorable Bond allies, much like Kerim Bey in From Russia With Love and Tiger Tanaka in You Only Live Twice.
Jussi Raitoniemi yes Columbo became a good friend and ally of Bond and a strong character in the series
The great Columbo!
@@scottknode898 Columbo's actor Topol was previously in **Flash Gordon** (1980), along with Timothy Dalton (Bond, James Bond (1987-1989) after Roger Moore), Max von Sidow (Blofeld in unofficial Bond movie "Never Say Never" (1983), with Connery as 007), and Robbie Coltrane (Valentin Zukovsky in "Goldeneye" (1995) and "The World Is Not Enough" (1999)
I don't know why this movie has hate, it was seriously one of the best Bond movies. Pretty fun to watch.
I don’t think it got so much hate but I find For Your Eyes Only to be one of my favorite Bond films to and Top of the list in the Roger Moore era next to The Spy Who Loved Me. Critics and fans liked For Your Eyes Only as it brought back the gritty Bond and literally back to Earth after Moonraker which ended up being made due to the popularity of Star Wars. For Your Eyes Only was supposed to be the next Bond film after The Spy Who Loved Me but due to Star Wars and its success Moonraker was made.
Literally doesn’t have any hate. Stop talking nonsense.
@@runawayplane6166 I've seen some people have hate over this movie. I'm not one of those people who are bashing over this movie. I'm just mentioning the experience of what I've witnessed while I've been surfing through reviews of the Bond films.
@@kristianleal5400i think the overall reception from the general audience is that it's just a good bond movie, the Roger Moore haters on the other side seem to be even more positive on it because it's the most serious out of any of Roger's films and want the more realistic approach of Dalton, Craig and even connery's early films. In regards to the old school bond fans who love the over the top, they find the movie stale and low key since they only associate Roger Moore with over the top. That's my view on the reception of the film
It’s genuinely a good film….just one with a forgettable big bad.
Probably Moore's best film, very close to spy who loved me
I got TSWLM and Tommorrow Never Dies as 1 and 2. I got this film as #3 but, still you are so right.
Good scene from one of if not the best Bond film with Roger.
My personal favorite from Moore.
Also, nice profile, Templeton.
Roger Kincaid thanks :)
The Spy Who Loved Me is Moore's best imo.
@@TheBrickGuy7939 Very good one indeed, I always go back and forth between FYEO and TSWLM as Roger's best. But... Octopussy is pretty good too :-)
@@MrFacePeck Yeah. That is an entertaining one. Scenes like the PTS and the train scenes always please me.
Yes it is always a good idea to taste an unknown substance that leaks from an object.
A return to form for 'James Bond' after all the over-the-top stuffs in the previous movies.
40 + years later and still 🔥
R.I.P.> Topol
1:07 Two allies meeting on a battlefield.
Less fancy gadget and darker approach from Roger Moore this is what this 007 series all about
My second favourite Moore film, with The Spy Who Loved Me being my ultimate favourite.
Totally agree with you.
I also like these two, among with Live and Let Die and Octopussy
A great scene from a great Bond film!!!! FYEO is one of my most favourite Bond movies.
My favorite scene in FYEO. No CGI, no crash editing, no shaky cam, no over the top and unending explosion, no massive gun fights and over acted deaths. This scene shows Bond (with his trustworthy Walther PPK) being a marksman (not a Jason Bourne/Matrix/Rambo/Terminator copycat) fights his way with pure class and sophistication. Such a classic scene that we will no longer see in the current Bond movies.
Columbo is awesome. The best Bond ally.
RIP Topol who played Columbo 1935-2023 passed away yesterday at age 87
Rip Topol, he also had a good comedic timing.
My first James Bond movie I ever saw. My third best 007 film of all time. To me if they made For Your Eyes Only during 1979 instead of Moonraker I feel this film wouldn't be a classic. Thank you George Lukas for creating Star Wars.
Moonraker was released in 1979.
@@ricardocantoral7672 Thank you for correcting me.
This was one of my favorite movie scenes ever when I was a child. So much cool and creative action.
Good thing all if the bad guys were dressed the same
Derek Meddings and his team used miniatures for the dock explosion at the end. Unless you already know this, it's very difficult to tell. That explosion on the cinema screen was very impressive.
Took me a number of viewings before I realized that was a model that exploded. The St. George's was another great model.
This is one of my favourite scenes

@@greatwuta Thanks 4 your comment!
@@michaellawrence7570 of course, we rarely disagree on 007 scenes or films, lol
@@greatwuta Hi i, agree you know what your talking about. We both agree on bond films i, love them not a fan of Daniel craig to be honest.
@@michaellawrence7570 I'll tell you this, if Phoebe Waller Bridge destroys No Time To Die, I'm going to hate Daniel Craig too.
Bond is former British Navy so it's always a joy to see him doing maritime operations, just like in Thunderball. Sure, you can put him in the jungle, the desert or a bad guy's fortress building but he seems to be most at home using the water.
Best Bond movie with the best theme song too 🏆❤👍💯
I have this film at 3 out of 24 but you are still right. I love the theme song as well.
One of the best moments of bond history.
Have you ever saw Flash Gordon?
@@greatwuta yup !
FYEO is the only Moore film truly close to the spirit of the Fleming novels; down-to-earth action, the thrill of "kill or be killed", espionage; no high-tech or space travel wtf
Columbo was likely going "if i were a rich man" after riding the warehouse
Columbo: Bond's greatest ally
Tell that to Felix Leiter
The mines at the warehouse...
Maybe Kristatos left one of those sea mines to keep out bothersome sharks like the St. Georges spyboat,
Most likely, the KGB had probably been aware of the St. George’s for some time
1:00 lol he just punched him outta the boat
Bond thinks: "Splash one bad guy."
Chokrane
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What like about the FYEO script is that the producers don't paint Colombo as a "clean" ally of Bond, But does admit he involved in criminal activities himself like smuggling Gold, Diamonds and cigarettes etc.
2:18 I'll bet that's for diving to the wreck of "Saint George" to retrieve ATAC system!
That's exactly what the diving suit is for and somehow that suit survived the explosion completely intact as one of Kristatos men uses it later in the film to fight Bond inside of the shipwreck
1:35 That wasn't precisely the ideal scream to die in a Bond movie.
The less cheesy of Moore movies as Bond. It´s my fav Moore´s 007.
I remember the first time I saw "For Your Eyes Only" as a kid, it was over the summer & was about to start 5th grade. I went to school on my first day & I did a double take since my teacher Mr. Chapin could have easily passed as Tropol/Columbo's twin.
At least he didn't pass as Loque. Garuntee you wouldn't have lived to talk about it
2:39 Say, that's look like the same mine, which sunked "Saint George"! So, that "accident" was no accident at all!
Your powers of observation do you credit, Mr. Курмыза
Long live sir Rog
You can tell that someone else was supposed to star in For Your Eyes Only as 007. James Bond in this movie is a totally different character than Roger's Bond in his 4 previous outings even though played by the same actor
Because FYEO was more realistic than the previous outings; no madmen bent on world domination, no travels to outer space, no henchmen with hooks or metal teeth, and practically no gadgets from Q Branch.
@@fivebearrugs Unless you count his "car alarm" on his Lotus, I'd say that's the only "gadget" to speak of.
@@petrifiedtoaster8572 don’t forget his analog Seiko he had at the end with the little digital message display and transmitter where PM Thatcher was congratulating him while he’s on Melina’s boat in Greece making his move with her
@@zachhoward9099 Good point.
Roger Moore the best Bond.
😍😍😍😍
You forgot to type something completely pointless about the film.
Is that the same guy from Oasis?
😍
RIP Topol!
That grenade Bond should've exploded in mid air since a grenade takes 2 to 6 seconds to explode the moment the pin is pulled and Bond took about 7 to 10 seconds to throw so realistically it would've either exploded in mid air or just exploded in his hand
Lifted from Risico. Kristatos himself was present and the battle concluded with Bond shooting him in the back.
Where do you buy WW2 naval mines ?
In the studio props department.
Convenient the villains all had the same colour tops on

Why would they attempt a raid in a 100ft white yacht. Surely mooring half a mile away and stealthily creeping up on foot would have a better outcome.

2:31 - I really hope in an alternative universe there is a version of this film in which Bond, Columbo and his men forget about the fight and just get drugged up on raw opium instead. It would be very interesting to see how things pan out :)
LOL you're terrible.
@@greatwuta no, just stupid.
John Glen's films seemed to have a running theme of Bond being immune to the old toke what with licking opium here, licking it off an knife in Daylights and somehow not getting coked out whilst dangling over a shredder in LTK.

Not one of my favourites this film tbh
Mine neither. I'd say this is an average 007 film.
I enjoyed Roger Moore as 007abit more than Connery. I think the scripts were more interesting.
