  • Fritz RPM Salt Mix is the topic of today's video. I made the switch because I wanted to try a salt that had parameters that were consistent with normal sea water so that I could perform a larger water change without having to worry about raising my levels to a point it would endanger corals.
    Here are the levels I measured right out of the bucket.
    Salinity - 1.026
    Calcium - 420 ppm
    Alkalinity - 8.7 dKh
    Magnesium - 1300 ppm

    I went into Reef Valley in mccallen TX one day and say people going in and out with water mixed at the LFS, turns out it was RPM. I purchased 20 gallons from them and after a few water changers my parameters were spot on and the nuisance algae was gone. Still purchase water from that LFS

    I like the detailed parameters you’ve shown here, appreciate the info. I switched to Fritz salt in January and I really like it - especially how clean it mixes compared to Reef Crystals. Good video! 👍🏻👍🏻

      Reefgrrl thanks Cindy and I did like how clean it was also. The only thing I had to skim out was some cardboard from when I opened the box, my bad...lol.. I am happy you enjoyed the video.

      Glad to hear youre liking it. I made the switch a few years ago. Them being from Texas, my LFS suggesting it and the parameters being where they are at.... I had to do it.

    Very informative video. I will be switching to Fritz salt, reason is I am using Aquaforest products. But finding there have to much extra additional additives to maintain all 3 of my reef systems= $$$. Happy Reefing 😎.

    I use the live aquaria salt which I've heard is fritz rpm re labeled. I really like it the only issue is the alk drops after 3-4 days in the mixing container. So you just can't store it after mixing

      Rob Burgess thanks for the heads up Rob. I don't store my salt water anyway. I make it up there same day I use it. 😀👍

    I just mixed my first batch of tank water with rpm ,it mixed fast and the water is very clear I only did a 20% water change and I'm hind sight I should have tested the water both before and after adding the new salk.I bought a small bag of rpm just in case I don't like it but so far so good and everything was almost spot on for 1\2 cup of salt per one gallon of wasted the initial reading was about 1.025 I keep my mixed reef at 1.026 so bad to add a little more but I could have added it as is if I wanted to.

      Happy to hear that your enjoying it as much as I. As much as you want to do more to see how your system does with more, as I did as well, just take it slow and allow all your inhabitants get used to the new salt. All the best.

    Hey man .. grate video .. I follow you and I dont know how i missed this one but I am going to stop Red Sea Pro Coral and Try the RPM (I am thinking of try RPM RED). Do you have recommendations where to buy it? Marine Depot and BRS dont sell it.
    I really enjoy your channel and It amazes me that you dont have 50K + subscription

    I've been "Team Fritz" for a year and a half now. Even use their 2 part and bacteria. Make sure Jess gives you a Fritz bucket at RAP. The Reef Crystals bucket will ruin it lol.

    I'm switching to fritz. I'm nervous because my calcium went outside whack and pH dropped to 8.0. worried throwing system way off.

      In the end you must do what's right for your system. I never had that issue when I used it but again I totally understand. After all every system is different. All the best.

    I have been using Reef chrystal but in a discussion with my lfs owner recently, he suggested I change to Fritz. I won't throw away my current stock, so it would be a few weeks before I try it. Hoping for a follow up from you before that time

    • @ScottM
      @ScottM  6 років тому

      laminar flow I will be definitely be doing a follow up but I will say I have done 2 water changes and everything is doing great. So far no complaints. I will keep you updated.

    Scott will I be ok for 3 weeks vacation 50 gal Fowler tank will the ato drop the alkalinity to much it evporates about 3 gals a week

    • @ScottM
      @ScottM  6 років тому +1

      plootsa it really depends on how much water your tank evaporates in a week. I know mine goes through a 5 gallon bucket in about 4 days so I would need 15+gallons of top off to cover that time period. If you're talking about your levels that would depend on how much your corals consume in a day. Every tank has different consumption rates based on coral stocking. Hope this helps and enjoy your vacation. 😀

    • @ScottM

      Nelson Aviles I use Hanna for Alkalinity and Red Sea for calcium and Magnesium. I have also used Elos for phosphate.

    You people go way too crazy with water testing, I never test my water and fish and corals are always healthy

    • @ScottM
      @ScottM  6 років тому +1

      chrisd925 I see testing as an essential part of the hobby and as a way to keep a mixed reef going. While problems arise it's also a tool to try and figure things out. If you choose not to test and it weeks for you then that's ok for you but a lot of people choose to test.

    • @chrisd925
      @chrisd925 6 років тому

      Scott From Rosco's Reef once a reef tank is established and you have your routine down nothing should change, that’s the goal is to get the reef stable

    • @ScottM
      @ScottM  6 років тому

      There are a number of things that can happen to our tanks. From bad batches of salt, coral uptake increasing due to additional corals bring added, nitrates and phosphates increasing, and trace elements depleting that you will never know without testing. I don't know where your getting your information from but even individuals who founded the hobby test religiously. I think I would rather emulate their methods because they are proven to be successful. Like I said if you choose not to test and it works for you that's fine but I will keep testing mine.

      Well then you need to start making videos and show your tank with the way you do things.
