  • Fritz RPM Reef Pro Mix has great reviews so I'm making the switch from using Instant Oceans Reef Crystals to using the REEF PRO MIX by Fritz Aquatics. In this video I compare the results between instant oceans reef crystals and Fritz Aquatics Reef Pro Mix otherwise known as Fritz RPM.
    I think that Fritz is a great company that puts quality into there products and the quality control process when making their RPM Reef Pro Mix is just that, Quality in small batches.

    Keep testing every fresh mix. I had fritz blue box mix up at 13.5 alkalinity.

    I did a 10% water change with the rpm tonight I found it mixed completely in my bucket with a powerless running in a cpl hours better than my old stuff but I need to purchase some new test kits to get the best results but so far I like it!

    Any thoughts on the red box high alk stuff? I want to switch from instant reef Crystal's to rpm red box high alk

    • @TheCoralReefTalk
      @TheCoralReefTalk  5 років тому

      Do you have a lot of sps? The red box mixes up to around 10 to 12 for Alk. I tend to keep my tank around 8 and 9 but I have had higher alk in the past and everything was fine. You would want to make the change slowly so that the rise in alk happens gradually. And test often. So far I am pleased with the blue RPM box.

    the alkalinity is a little high for a natural sea water mix" that fritz is said to be!

    How do smaller batches translate to better precision? I would think it would lead to less precision, because it might be harder to achieve the same perimeters between batches. I have switched to RPM and have not had good results. With respect, I think I'm missing something.

      I have the exact same thoughts! do know I got a bad batch of reef crystals so I am making the same switch! Alk is only testing at 6.2 at 1026 salinity! I even added more and dint change it the next day unless it precipitate out, the water is so cloudy and looks like its full of alk! Dosnt make sense and I am using a hanna checker! It has been stored in a hot garage all summer but was unopened!

    My local coral store use to use this mix until he says "after a couple days mixed, the alk level would drop" in his reservoir

      Thank you so much for checking back. I was overall not happy with it and used aquaforest for a little bit then I used brightwell Neo marine. Before finally going with my tried and true salt mix Reef Crystals by instant ocean. which I am now currently using on the 125g and I am happy with.

      @@TheCoralReefTalkhad mine for a while as I didn’t have corals I didn’t test alk now I got lots of corals my test shows 13.5 which is high so I might try tropic Marin, Redsea pro salt or reef crystals did they change owners why is the packaging different and says aquarium systems on all of them now

    Easier way is do 10 gallons every 3 or 4 days using the new salt. Worked for me. Fritz is way better.

    Fritz quality control is BS! I think they say 8.5 alk on website at 1026. I get 12 almost all the time! PLus they say 1/2 cup per gallon. I just mixed 12 gallons and used about 10 dixie cups , maybe more! I believe are cups or 16 oz. I used 0 tds water and fully followed instructions with a calibrated Hanna salinity tester! I love the fact that water is clear so fast and I love the paramenters you said but dont know why I dont get anywhere near that, even elevated calcium which I just check after not checking a while and it was 500! I hope that is an ok number for calcium. I havnt checked mag in a long while! I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. I add it slowly and add a heater and a big wavemaker! I do store boxes in hot garage and bring them in once opened I keep in house! I am going to be looking for another salt I think. Reef crystal always got moist and clumpy after opening and took forever to clear! My LFs used to use Fritz and quit from inconsistent results I think she said was why! I would actually be better off buying salt from here on Tuesday its 25cent a gallon or at least last time I bought from her! Great video BTW Thanks for taking the time to do all that!
