I love how they didn’t make her end up with a guy, unlike mulan, but at the same time they didn’t make her hate men or anything extreme like that. They just focused on her forging her own path and being a beautiful, strong, independent woman. Also shoutout to that poor lady who works at the castle, she deserves a pay raise😂
I'll admit Mulan didn't need to have a love interest at all but in reality how likely would it be for a woman to go off to war and be surrounded by men and her not develop feelings for one of them? As well how likely would it be for a man to have the upmost love and respect for a comrade then once he finds out she's a woman he doesn't develop any sort of feelings for her? People always say relationships are being forced in movies but in my opinion in regards to Mulan if they didn't give her a love interest that itself would have been a forced move. Also unlike most movies Mulan didn't straight up get with Shang at the end, yes he showed up at her house and stayed for dinner but he didn't immediately propose he didn't even officially ask her out at the end of the movie! I honestly think him just showing up and spending time with her and her family outside of war is one of the most realistic relationships in a movie and I think it was the right move not a forced one.
@@KupcakeKitten mulan and shang are iconic, their friendship came first, and the movie didn't even need to show the relationship to still be one of the best relationships of all the disney "princesses"
If Merida hadn't entered the archery competition, Young Macintosh, MacGuffin, and Dingwall never would known that she doesn't want to go through with the marriage because it's kind of obvious that they also don't want to go through with the marriage
7:36 The problem is that even though it isn't fair, Merida doesn't fully understand that the threat of war is a genuinely serious one. Their kingdom is resting on a very delicate alliance, the games mean that everyone has a fair enough chance and they can't claim favouritism or accuse clan Dunbroch of betrayal. No, Merida shouldn't just have to get married like that when she's not ready and doesn't know any of her three suitors, but what she did could lead to a four way war.
Exactly! Everyone seems to forget being a princess isn't all about luxury, but a heavy responsibility... I couldn't help being on the mom's side for most of the movie, even if I love characters like Merida usually...
@@MariaGarcia-is6nx I guess that's another good thing about this movie, Merida coming to realise her full responsibilities and Elinor realising just how unfair it is when her daughter isn't ready (she might have been and her betrothal worked out fine because she and Fergus fell in love but that doesn't mean it'll work out as well with her daughter) so they managed to find a way too keep the peace and give the entire new generation a choice in their future.
5:56 he says "if he was a wee bit closer I could lob a caber at him ken" Which means if he was a little bit closer I could throw a caber at him you know (a caber is like a long tree trunk and in Highland games you'd play toss the caber)
Same here. One comment was the Polar Express effect where they felt it was too lifelike and uncanny. That is what I loved about it, especially since one of my little cousins is the spitting image of Merida. Other ones were about the story being too cramped and rushed at times. I kind of see where they are coming from, but I never thought it was. This is one of my favorite Pixar movies. I just wish the hate did not prevent Pixar not want to make another Princess movie.
I don't really remember the arguments someone was trying to make way back when the movie came out, but I do remember responding like, "Wow. You are actually upset that this *viking* chick knows how to handle herself."
I thought I was the only one that didn’t understand the hate side of this movie, Pixar’s Brave is like my 4th favorite, animated movie of all time, right behind Encanto
12:25 What he said in Doric was "It's just not fair making us fight for the hand of a girl that doesn't want a bit of it, you know." She just gave them a bit more of control over their own lives, to me that means they owe her one. Personally I think an oath of loyalty to her as their queen when the time comes that they each become the lords of their respective clans and Merida becomes queen of her clan and their kingdom is a fair repayment.
I'm not even gonna lie, when I first watched Brave and the film was like in the middle where Merida and her bear mom found out that the prince became Mor'du I though that they might find another way to break the spell, and they break the spell for the prince/Mor'du as well and based on the stone carvings of him he looked decently manly, so I though that that was going to happen and then Merida would end up with him, because at that time I though "There is NO WAY that Merida is going to marry ANY of the boys presented, and Certainly NOT that boy who basically "won" her hand in marriage.". That is what I though was going to happen.

Really beautiful animation and great songs, but I can't stand the main character. She is spoiled, selfish and gullible (...stupid). She didn't mind all those people in her kingdom working so that she can wake up late, grab some fresh fruit, get on her own horse and ride around. Also have more than one dress, jewelry, safe and warm castle to live in and the privilege of education (that she did not appreciate). She would them to go to war and DIE because she decided not to do her duty. And how stupid can someone be to feed something that was acquired from a witch to your own mother to "change her". That cake could have been stuffed with rat poison and the mom would "change" into a rotting corpse. Merida's action are that of a 8 year old.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I thought movie was overrated. The movie has so many tropes and cliches. Yeah. I understand fulfilling your duty and maybe wanting an arranged marriage at times, but you have to approve it first not be forced into it.
