British Army's Ranger Regiment's breaching skills put to the test
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- The Ranger Regiment, the British Army's Special Operations-capable force, have been practising the art of breaching at a disused quarry in Somerset.
Forcing entry through a door is not as simple as it looks in the films, with breaching barriers requiring certain knowledge and expertise.
The Rangers learn how to make strip charges from scratch, importantly using items that are readily available like carpet tape and hosepipe, before blowing off some doors, demonstrating that wherever they are in operating in the world they can easily source the kit they need.

The SAS has never been capable of implementing US style arm special forces. To even attempt that would make the SAS training pipeline too expensive and 4 years of training at a minimum. Then there is the risk that it would be too complex to create such a trooper that can do both at the scale of the SAS.

Rangers needs a arduous selection process similar to P Coy or the CDO all arms course. Until they separate themselves from standard Inf, they wont get the respect. They are competing for the same calibre of soldier, but without the standards?

Why not name them SOE, or just Special Forces, the name & equivalencies are just confusing, not to people in the know, but when does sense matter right
Britain needs a larger scale special operations frame work and this is the first step in that direction. The real name of this force is actually Army Special Operations Brigade. Rangers are just the individual divisions of that force and could called anything from monkey riders to space jump tactical knights.
Or they could have kept it under SAS & opened up more Squadron's, with certain capabilities
Hmm, I wonder if they thought of that and decided against it for a good reason? Nah, probably not, you’re just that much smarter than everyone else
No. SAS training is very specialised, expensive and fit for one job only. For them to try and implement a general special operations force in the SAS would water down its primary skill set.
@@OMT988
US Army Special Forces is very unique. Its operators are expected to be all rounders with language skills, field medic skills, field craft and so on. They can also undertaking local infrastructure projects and integrate into local force structures. They are not a clandestine commando force that specialise in the most elite and critical missions. The SAS are masters of unconventional warfare and train that for in every environment. The US has the 5th special forces group to undertake such tasks that the SAS has. It is not that the SAS could not do the job of US army special forces if they applied them self it would just be a waste of their resources and time and they are very focused on their current doctrine.
@@OMT988
Delta detachment came from the 5th group who were performing those specialised roles in Vietnam. They were also the first forward operations groups in Afghanistan. The greater Army special forces have 33000 personnel and probably 3000 to 7000 operators. And their doctrine of service is different from that of the SAS.
The SAS could attempt to do what US special forces do but it most certainly would mean changing the command structure and doctrine but what would be the purpose of that?

The fifth was the primary special forces group in nam. Roles involved ranging, boat operations, comms, recon and direct green combat. Delta detachment was born out of operation delta staffed from fifth groups due being the most innovate force.
