Such nice parents and glad they're enjoying their stay in Denmark 😊
Mr. Young Senior might have some Dane in him, seeing his enthusiasm for snaps!
You have lovely parents my man. Welcome to Denmark!
Joshua in his shirt with his cap on and his super sweet parent's on his sides, was just so wholesome to watch and put i little tear to my eye❤️
Thanks for the video and thanks to Joshua's parents for coming to Denmark and hopefully they will be back soon 🇩🇰❤️
God bedring til din mor 😊
For a flæskestegs burger :)
In Præstø
The main rule you broke was not saying skål to your mother, we say cheers to everyone nomatter if they have alcohol in their glass or not.. we dont leave people out.. and especially not our mother 😜
Its so sweet when your mother mentions how much she likes our bread ☺️
She likes the bread!! She’s a real one, it’s not for everyone, especially when you didn’t grow up with it.
Hope they’re enjoying their stay :)
She liked licorice too :)
The significance of a good slice of Rye with smoked salmon or warm leverpostej cannot be overstated!
Your parents seem so kind. No wonder you turned turned out so likeable. 🤗
Always a pleasure to meet your parents, getting all hungry seeing this. My personal favorite smørrebrød is potato with mayo and onions. Skål!
Fried pork liver with onions, brown gravy and potatoes is a great danish traditional dish.
Not anymore, but 50 years ago.
What a wholesome video. I liked the selection of Smørrebrød you pick for them to try. Have a nice trip to Italy and a speedy recovery for grandma Young
Very sweet parents. Much love to them ❤️
I loved smörrebröd when I was in Denmark in Sept. So many flavors and the bread was so good. Your parents are a joy! Thanks for sharing your time with them.
looks very tasty and your parents looks like very nice people :)
I think we learned from the US to be kind to international guests. From my travels to the US I have very positive memories of the people. Nice to see your parents had such a nice stay in DK. Remember to buy your father a bottle of snaps to take with him home.
The one with leverpostej is a specific topped version of smørrebrød called "Veterinarians night snack". No idea why it's called that. Impressed with your father using both knife and fork! Also, I hope they get to try a proper hotdog with all the toppings(not one of the fancy ones with local produced remoulade and sausages, but the common mans hotdog).
The "Veterinarians night cap" or in Danish "Dyrelægens natmad" was initially from a shop in the center of Copenhagen specialized in smørrebrød, Oskar Davidsen, most recently operated by Ida Davidsen. The restaurant closed in 2021. They had a regular guest that was a veterinary. He came in in the evening and ordered this special open sandwich.
It's so wholesome. Cant wait to hear what they have experienced in Denmark
The best of wishes to you, your parents and the rest of your family. I hope your parents will return and enjoy Jutland as well - and get another chance to have "smørrebrød". Greetings from Roskilde.
This is such a HYGGELIGT episode :) welcome to Denmark, hope you come back
You are always welcome. We are just so glad you like our country and our food. I am looking forward to see more of your visit and your trip to Italy. Thank you for taking us all in to get to know you and your parents. 😄
Thank you for sharing this with your parents, very nice. Enjoy their visit.
The smørrebrød looks quite good as well. Wonderful parents. Love them.
For leverpostej I don't really like the thick pieces you often get on smørrebrød. They should try warm leverpostej on franskbrød (french bread, though I doubt the french would make our version) or maybe on rundstykker (round pieces).
Can't wait to see the other videos (hopefully) of them seeing the other parts of Denmark that you posted on Instagram.
Try some warm leverpostej on white bread. (Thick slices of freshly baked bread works amazing for this)
For variants, one is adding freshly fried bacon slices on top, and another is slices of pickled beetroot.
Varm leverpostej skal på ristet rugbrød.
Warm Leverpostej on ristet Rugbrød
Hans Christian Andersen's favorite Open-faced Sandwich :
1 slice of rye bread
butter
4-6 slices of crisp bacon
1-2 slices of leverpostej
slices of tomatoes
1 slice of aspic (sky)
fresh grounded horseradish (peberrod)
chopped parsley
I don't know what day you are talking about, with your walk through Amalienborg to Nyhavn, but we did the same walk two weeks ago. We finally made it to Copenhagen for 9 days earlier in October. Visited many of the museums, including Rosenborg, Hammershus, Roskilde, Frederiksborg, Kronborg, and Louisiana. My son ate all the seafood and smørrebrød and actually liked it! Great to see your parents could make the trip, and I hope Italy was nice for you as well.
the leverposteg you had is called "dyrelægens natmad" " the veterinarian nightfood" 🙂
sitting as a danish teenager watching this brings me so much joy
Thanks such nice video to watch after long day at work!
lol you dad would fit in at a danish julefrokost with the snaps of cause iv known families that put away the snaps after the fish
and godbedringer to your mom
Ah its so fun and wholesome to see your parents again, and trying the smørrebrød haha
6:14 I love youre dad! 😄
In case you do not know. The Julesnaps is a special Christmas snaps 🙂 Jul is the danish Word for Christmas 🎄
So very wholesome.. Happy to see it was well enjoyed and that you guys are able to be together in Denmark and Europe.
Best of all, it was well enjoyed the small tease comment towards Germany :D
And amazed to hear an American who enjoys the liquorice!
What an awesome video, nice to watch your sweet parents having a great time while tasting some varieties of danish smørrebrød - your father's fondness of snaps make him fit in at each and every christmas lunch throughout the kingdom.
Oh how sweet. Your parents are just The sweetest 🥹
So good to see you all again, you’ve been missed ❤
That’s super nice of you to say!
Årrrhhhhh... Hvor er i fantastiske. Pardon my danish. 🥰 Loved this video. I'm glad your parents seem to have had a good time in Denmark. 😎
Hope they Will have a Good time in denmark
Awesome to see mom and dad try some danish dishes :) hope they enjoyed it!
Your parents seem so nice :) Awesome that they are enjoying Denmark, hope they brought warm clothes, it's getting nippy :D
Love the video! 🤩 it’s sorta funny to see how differently people use utensils in America. Maybe that’s an idea for a new video 🤩
Your parents should 100% take a cruise to Norway from CPH. My grandparents was on one a few years back, and it was an experience of a livetime for them. They where 75 and 85 years old at the time. I belive it lasted 8 days.
This was something they mentioned they wanted to do! Fingers crossed we can pull it off!
looks very nice. You have lovely parents. hope they enjoy Denmark. The meat on Dyrelægens natmad is not ham but veal that has been saltet
I agree with your mother, Liver and Onions is a gamechanger. My mother has always made Veal Liver in Brown gravy with, sautéed onions, mushrooms, and bacon.. Then with boiled potatoes and other vegetables. And the leftovers of that makes a great piece of smørrebrød. With the Liver in the gray and such. It's an older traditional dish in Denmark aswell.
Lovely parents 🙂
Strong stuff, introducing your folks to snaps and smørrebrød. Thats the way to go.
Of course she likes the rugbrød, everybody likes that. Even the Norwegians like it, and they are often very particular about that everything has to be like at home:-)
Good people attract good responses from other people - laws of attraction.
Very nice to have open minded people come here to spread good vibes.
And its so nice to see and hear real Americans in conversation instead of the portraits that we get from TV which are so often stupid and negative representations of americans. Thanks, good job.
When I lived in Denmark as a student, Leverpostej (Liver Paste) was at the top of the icky food chain there. I am with you there.
try it warm with bacon mushrooms or red cabbage
Leverpostej med saltkød = Dyrlægens natmad (The veterinarians late-night snack/food)
I was about to come in and say this exact thing... Dyrlægens natmad is my moms favorite 😋
The snaps is mostly for fish (or at least the fattier foods), but noone would bat an eye at people drinking it throughout.
Æg og rejer - a true classic. Popular especially with males 50+
The community house at Braunstein where you got the Snaps is my local quiz place :-)
They host a quiz once each month and the quizmaster is the best.
You can order Lakrids on line. I love Pingvin, also buy in the airport in Copenhagen.❤️❤️
Like your Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp cap! I don’t know if you know about Jacksonville’s relationship with Denmark - the training ship “Danmark” was stuck there during WWII when Germany invaded Denmark. My dad, a cadet on the ship, was on the ship then. Several of the cadets met their future wives there during that time. Although my dad was an only child, my “uncles” were some of the cadets from that ship who settled in Jacksonville.
Maybe you’ll be able to check out the ship sometime when it is in port. It’s a beautiful tall ship.
I'm glad to see the parents try the real thing. Judging a class of food based on first time home made stuff never works.
I 100 💯 percent love your mom I’ve seen her and met her to 😊
Love to your Mom and Dad, ❤.
The meat on top of the leverpostej it's not pork but beef and called saltkød and the whole thing calls dyrlægens natmad. I love watching your videos keep up the Good Work Looking forward to the next video

Many will get a neutral Snaps and add their own spices to it, so the taste options are unlimited.
Josh! Your dad is cool! He's into the snaps! 👍👍

Looks lovely🎉😊
leverpostej
The meat on top of the leverpostej is beef. its called saltkød. its eye of round roast thats have been saltet and cooked.
what is it about the coldsmoked salmon you dont like? have you tried hotsmoked salmon instead?. and how many ways have you tried the coldsmoked salmon? because he taste changes a lot depending on how you serve it. I have my own food truck driving down Lolland Falster where I sell fresh fish and fish specialities, so maybe you havent tried all the ways to eat cold smoked salmon
ther's always been a bebate, in my family over wether you eat with your left or right. I have my knife and fork right to left, even though i'm left handed, I always eat with my right
You got the food from Jesper in Farum? That's not far from Værløse, my home town. I've been wondering about your whereabouts - and I don't think you should reveal it - but I've been thinking of Lyngby as a possible base. So, you are drinking snaps? I wouldn't touch it nor finthakket leverpostej, spegepølse or lyst rygbrød... nor lakrids, yuk!
You need beer with shrimp smørbrød or the salmon. Or white wine. Not only snaps. Beer is Denmark too
What dishes have you been presented with. Where you have asked yourselves. Do you really eat it? But have been pleasantly surprised. Or dishes where you say no thanks.
my favourite warm fried fish with remoulade and drop of lemon the best
Thats what many of danes is grow up with - love love smørrebrød ❤️💙
Smørebrødet looked delirious, >god appetit< 😀
Funny thing about leverpostej, don’t like lever/liver in it’s raw form, but do like leverpostej
And too add some, don’t get why it’s a *(Danish thing)* hygge
The amount of toppings vs bread on a luxury Smørebrød is not something many often enjoy, and it's very decadent and personally a bit too much, like the amount of leverposteg is just too much. (and I love that stuff, Josh have you tried a warm Leverposteg, grilled mushrooms and bacon on freshly baked franskbrød or rugbrød, think that might change your mind, to die for :))
The one with leverpostej is not with Ham. Its heavy saltet porkbreast ( sprængt svinebryst)..also called "salt kød".
Which bryggeri did you go to? We enjoy your videos very much 😊
Thanks! Braunstein in Køge.
If you live near a bilka or føtex with a deli, you can usually get a set of 3 pieces that are not "højt belagt" (luxury) but still qualifies as smørrebrød.
It's good once in a while... but yeah, if you want the full experience, go to a butchers' or a tavern to have the luxury versions.
😋 and when there's lemon or orange slices on top, you're supposed to squeeze some juice on top of the slice before eating it.

Please go to Møllers in Juelsminde! They make AMAZING Smørrebrød!
You should get yourself a bottle of "Gammel Dansk" !
That's really Denmark in a bottle :)
Stay tuned for an upcoming beer drinking episode that ends in Gammel Dansk shots :).
Joshua watt the heck a bad host 😂 must dad remind you about the snaps 😅 having the parents do like the fod hope de are injoy the stay in dk 😊
And not fill the glass to the top?? That's a no no.
must be cold@@Ikkeligeglad
If they cruise to Norway they should take Commodore cabins. Not because of the cabins themself really, I don’t see a huge difference. But you get free internet and that useful and if you have to buy it it almost cost the difference in the upgrade anyway.
But the important thing is that with Commodore you get access to the best breakfast buffet and you can’t buy access to that.
It’s by far worth the difference in price!
"Haps, Haps, Haps, nu skal vi ha snaps", is a saying when having snaps.
I do hope the folks get the full wholesome Danish experience one day, IMHO there is much more Denmark outside our Capitol area.
I agree there is for sure more, just didn’t have time this trip because we also took my mom to Italy.
How can you not like smoked salmon smørbrød. Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs is typical norwegian smørbrød. And Sweden too. We all eat smørbrød in whole Scandinavia. Good bread , lettuce, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, cucumber, little mayo and lemon and dill. We know how to do it. Shrimps smørbrød is my favorite. With lots of mayo, lettuce, lemon, avocado , dill, little black pepper, red onion. The shrimps are straight from the sea, boiled , then coocked down, we peel them ourselves and put on fresh, good bread . Can make good smørbrød with Lots of good stuff here. Love Denmark ❤been alot.
Typical danish smørbrød is " Stjerneskudd" . Greetings from Norway 🙋♀️
Meant cooled down after boiled . The shrimp boats do it themselves. Boil the shrimps so the become pink. Steam the fresh shrimps, before eating them cold. Typical scandinavian thing to do in summer.
Nice video. Lovely to see your parents. However, that levepostej one was strange tbh. Ham on top? Never seen that. You should next bake storebought levepostej and add crunchy bacon bits on top and put that on rugbrod. Delicious! Also. Danes usually just sip the schnaps when having this. It's dangerous game you're playing by downing them this fast.
Ret sikker på det var Saltkød, som er lavet af okse- og kalve lår.
Men det er vidst ret unikt, så kan godt forstå misforståelsen.
cant wait for the Travelin' Old Channel :P i could see them Travel the scandinavian's countries for sure..
15:01 Your dad want more snaps, he’s got the right attitude 😁 Lovely parents ❤️ Such a pitty you didnt introduce them to a crisp fiskefilet with remoulade, lemon, letters, dill and a bit of tomato.
You ca
N get the rugbrød in Aldi.
Ham on leverpostej? Normally the meat that goes on leverpostej is saltkød (salt meat). saltkød is salt cured meat which is typically veal or beef. Leverpostej with saltkød is called "dyrelægens natmad". (the vet's late night snack)
Welcome to Denmark : velkommen til Danmark to your parents
oh and tell your dad theres always room for the snaps. on saturday or sunday lunch or dinner table. at easter christmas or just when family get together there is always snaps in Denmark. and beer well even at a funeral there will be snaps an beers 🙂
I’m originally from (as in I was born ) in Ethiopia and adopted by a Danish family. I now speak fluent Danish and English and I have a brother who is also Ethiopian but not my biological brother and we are both the first black people in my family. I love seeing people enjoy things such as smørrebrød but I can’t eat it because I’m vegan
I like you have to warm up to your parents with the snaps....very danish,

I rember hearing in another video with nordic people in the US that they could do to Ikea in the US and get a rugbrød mix they could make at home.
wholesome.
you said bread like home. I have been i us many times. I think about 32 states. I never get rugbrød or somthing like that. So what do you maen about bread like home.
There is something called Ezekiel Bread that you can find in some places in the us. It’s the closest thing I’ve been able to find.
Not ham - it is cow/ox/veal “Eye of round” that have been saltet and boilt (dyrelægens natmad)
your welcome. now please tell my american friends that danish ryebread is great
Nice parents, they can stay in Denmark😊
Super parents!
