I bought one of these a month or so ago. I also got some cheap, aftermarket filters and some foam socks to go over them. The plan is to take extreme care of the original DeWalt HEPA filter and use it only in the house, where I feel a need HEPA filtration. The aftermarket filters will get blown out with an air gun regularly, which I suspect will 'open them up' a bit for even better suction. These better flowing filters will be covered with the foam socks and used in the shop, or anywhere else power is more important than HEPA filtration. The foam socks can simply be shaken off in the waste can and hand washed in the sink, then squeezed out and hung up to dry.
    So far so good. 😎

Love this vac. Sometimes use it for small detail sanding in homeowner jobs in living spaces instead of lugging around the festool. Just clip it on and go.

I just ordered this to replace my 517. The 517 had a quirk. It would not work with my power stack batteries. I had to keep old batteries around just for that vacuum. Do you know if this one works with the power stacks?

I am intrigued with your water test. Shopvacs have a float system to prevent water from being sucked into the motor. If that worked to protect your motor, the fact that it is rated for dry only is true but not the whole story. Very few people would take a rating for 1 cup of water seriously. But for quick action, it would be perfect. Inagine a cup of coffee spilt on a desk and it is dripping into your keyboard. You grab every cloth you can, paper towel, whatever. You have coffee on your clothes and you have tipped over the keyboard to get as much water our as possible. I could see ne sucking the coffee first off of ny clothes and then rinsing with water. A quick suck on the wet patch and i know stain gone and clothes dry in an hour without the need to stand under a hairdryer at work for an hour. I would suck the coffee from nooks and crannies and wipe with damp cloth. I would get a glass of water, suck coffee off the carpet put a bit of water on the stain, and voila a dry vacuum with the wet protection just saved the day. Now i need to find out if that safety float is why i did not see the motor die or spray water. I hope that somewhere dewalt mentions an emergency motor protection against accidental water sucking. If so, i will be thrilled.

How did it fair after sucking water into the motor?

Good the filter stopped all the water even though it's not meant to be a wet vac.
