Airborne assault on Hollands Deep 1940 - A Bridge far behind the lines.This is the story of the German paratroopers that in May 1940 was airdropped deep behind the frontlines in the Netherlands. The object was to take control of key Moerdijk-bridges spanning Hollands Diep an estuary of the Rhine and Meuse rivers. These bridges a railway bridge and a traffic bridge were defended by the Dutch army and prepared for demolition in the event of a German assault.
