      @@longmuskox4194 largely because they don't know it. Since these entities aren't compelled to make those settlement amounts public record, they're under no obligation to inform their opponents.
      The core of this should be full transparency for all uses of tax dollars. I know there will always be exceptions-such as matters of national security. That gets abused, to hide certain information from the public.
      But at this local and state level, the amount of a settlement certainly cannot be said to be vital to anyone's security. They're merely attempting to keep anyone else from asking for similar amounts, when they're inevitably sued again.

      This is why police budgets are 30-50% city budgets. Police are Sued A LOT. Police reform would save a LOT of city money. Millions for every city.... Not only do police/military perpetrate a LOT of violence against everyone, especially women, God help you if police ever have to search your home or business. That's pretty much the end of your home or business and you have to sue to get back to near where you were years and years later. It's probably a good idea to have big nails and plywood , and a go bag, just in case. There is not even an apology. They are very self-righteous about destroying everything.

      that's far from true and terrible advice
      even behind the "blue line" and other institutionalized forms of corruption, while HR is a mechanism to protect the corporation or government, it is nonetheless bound by law, as is the individual … there's no excuse to say "I _knew_ HR couldn't help."

    • @txbluesguy
      @txbluesguy Місяць тому +6

      @@brightymcbrightface, have you ever brought anything to HR? I have done this on a couple of occasions at different companies. Both times, it put me in a more precarious situation regarding my employment.

    • @brightymcbrightface
      @brightymcbrightface Місяць тому

      @@txbluesguy you're not going to get a pro-HR fight our of me - I rank HR right there with union employees. Unions are great. HR is great. How the employees conduct themselves in their "out of my pocket!" culture and all the other failings of "us vs. them" mentality in HR are failure cases, not exemplary of how HR (or unions) were/are meant to function.
      But it's terrible advice to generalize and say "don't go to HR" … better advice might be "if you think this is a matter of law, get a lawyer" and then the lawyer will help you plan what to say and how to proceed.
      Talking with HR is the same as talking with any corporate representative … it's not a chit-chat over a coffee even though they might suggest such techniques to loosen you up and get you to perjure yourself or libel or defame. These are basic defensive tactics: get the employee into their own tailspin, so they don't have to explain how draining the fuel out of the employee's tanks (taking away their opportunities and their capacity to execute and their resources to be successful) is what caused them to crash and burn.
      As a fun story to share with a passerby in the wilds of the Interwebz, I'll recount when I was a youngster, I had become sick of hearing the nonsense out of my 'boss' in a large corporation. I was in a technical role and the 'boss' was a career bureaucrat and 'administrator' with a technical degree of no relevance to the work our team (of hundreds) was progressing as one of the top three leaders globally. So I was attracted to going to a startup and getting out of corporate life. I told a 'colleague' I was leaving and I was getting an offer. That colleague told HR I was exiting (an innocent comment as he was explaining how he needed head count to hire.) HR rushed to take action to report me as a failing employee, ready to be fast-tracked into the HR process for being fired without recourse. Coincidentally, the future employer at the startup innocently called and asked for the basics (verify letters of recommendation and current employment status) which HR then reported as all A+ … at the same time as writing up the paperwork to report me as a waste of space …
      I didn't find out about any of this till I was leaving and ready to sign exit paperwork (non-compete, surrender security materials) then I noticed the "condition" report stating "under administration" meaning "about to be fired" … so I asked what was going on, found out about this BS, and eventually kicked up a fuss (I was not leaving after 10 years to have them write fictional paperwork that had me appearing to be dropped into the flush zone and discarded like poop.) So I didn't sign the exit papers, I called my VP and said I'd need some help. A month later, they turned my 90 days severance into 12 months severance and two letters from VPs of Engineering and the CTO recording my exemplary contribution, etc.
      I would note that repeatedly I was told "get a lawyer, be careful what you say or do" and "it's important to engage with HR and go by the book regardless of misgivings."
      Later, I asked for heads to roll and they said "we can get your facts on the record, but we can't move mountains."
      A few years later I heard the top engineering people were mostly gone, taking their vested shares, leaving behind millions in equity, going elsewhere and the company had been acquired for pennies.
      I think the demise of that company was caused not by its products or technology, not by its customers changing direction or strong competition in the market but by the bureaucrats and administration of the company including the culture of its HR department.
      So, you're not going to get a pro-HR fight out of me! : )

    I live in Mendocino County and we have a r*pist and also a child porno dude working in the Sheriff's Dept. The county will NOT prosecute r*pes or child molestation up here unless they absolutely cannot get out of it... like when a rich tourist from another place got assaulted in a public park bathroom and 40 people were outside calling the cops, and the cops had to break into the bathroom. Those are the ONLY type cases they will handle. We have serial repeaters up here and they do NOT care. People actually move here to comit these types of crimes due to non-prosecution. It is total insanity. California is a hub for this type of bullcrap. I'd advise that lady to quit her job before a sketchy shooting incident ends her life. They didn't fire the jerk so he will come after her again. And odds are this isn't the first woman he has done this too but much worse. I'm surprised ANY cop stood up for her because they never break that thin blue line.

    • @melissacollier2082

      He is not in jail because there is another side to the coin. In General, there are people out there that will want false accusers in jail also. There are people who have falsely accused people and ruined careers and lives, and the once proven in court there is no retribution by tax dollars. It will be a mess. In this case I am pissed that the media didn’t protect her identity. She won because her experience happened and others will retaliate.
