    FYI if there was hazing on the black granite from wine and ketchup, this is due to acid etching. It means that is not a true granite, but contains some calcite, which reacts on contact with acids - impregnating sealers cannot solve that problem.
    Light grey granites are difficult to seal. I would recommend a silane based product like STAIN-PROOF Plus which also has very high concentration of active sealer in the bottle. It takes a few weeks to reach full cure but will give you better protection long term than other impregnators.
    Also - while manufacturers of quartz surfaces say they don't need sealing, you can use an impregnating sealer on them.
    Silestone has a series of countertops pre-treated with an impregnator (they call it N-BOOST) which stops staining and makes cleaning easier (no I d not work for them).
    Also - different brands of uartz use more or less epoxy in the mix - this is the plastic like polymer which binds the crush quartz together - I believe Vicostone use a slightly higher amount of epoxy which makes for a less porous and more maintenance free surface. (Again - I do not work for them).

    Acetone, Soft scrube bleach, and a razor blade will take most off. If stained inside there is a few solutions you can pour on to take it out

      Hi Rachel! Yes we noticed it stains too. Especially near the bathroom sink.

      Hello Rachel, try using a Mr. Clean magic eraser. It’s slightly abrasive, so don’t use it every single time you clean, as it will eventually dull the finish, but it works really well on quartz for stubborn stains.

    Why don't you try a heat test? Try setting pans, fresh out of the oven and pans just off the stove on granite and quartz and see how each is affected.

    These tests mean nothing and only the experience matters. Our 6 year old house had good quality granite countertops in kitchen and quartz in bathrooms. Needless to say, granite still looks new, but the shiny quarts is full of visible scratches due to regular cleaning. Also, the feel when you touch the quartz countertop is cheap, compared to the premium stone touch on granite. Quartz feels like hard plastic and it is not a great feel in the house.
    For a comparison, if granite is the hardwood and the quartz is like MDF structurally.

    Quartz is sensitive to heat while granite is not. So, if you put a pot of boiling water on your countertop (on purpose or accidentally) - ONLY use granite.

    Quartz stone is one of the hardest minerals found on earth and is abundant. To manufacture a quartz kitchen countertop the quartz stone is pulverized and graded to meet the manufacturing specifications.

    • @sammunro8487
      @sammunro8487 5 років тому

      Quartz countertops are engineered stone countertops, because the quartz is combined with resins that compose up to 10% of the countertop. Though the quartz is non-porous and hard, the resins are vulnerable to scratching, etching, staining, etc.

    So don't do your nails or art projects on the kitchen counter without putting down a barrier. Don't cook and then leave it without cleaning up. Quartz stains too and really is not very attractive. It is man made (fake) and it looks cheap to me, not sure why it is so popular. As shown, granite is very easy to seal. There should be a sealer comparison, 2-3-4 brand is what I used, comes from Germany, I got it on Amazon and yeah, it was $60 bucks for a quart but it deep penetrates.

      It is so popular because you can have a continuous surface while the granit will live a mark(line) where the two pieces are put together. If you have a kitchen in U shape for example, you will probably have to put three pieces of granit together that will live a line and noticeable color difference because the granit pieces are unique even cutted from the same block. In the same case a quartz countertop will live a nice even surface with no marks or color difference.
