Sole Slip examines H class No 263; one of 66 such engines built for the South Eastern & Chatham Railway between 1904-15.
This is an original documentary produced by me and my friends, starring my creations and myself. I required no permission to film on any of the premises featured in this production.
The music, images and artwork are my own creations unless otherwise stated.

When you have a proven design like the H class, was there ever really a need for the K class?
No, but the Rivers metamorphosed into lovely U Boats....
That’s just the way Railways work with locomotives I’m afraid: no sooner has something come out it is replaced with something new
Hs in Scotland?
Looks like someone found an excuse to run them on their Scottish layout
So I'm just throwing this one out here
Is it possible to see an edition of S.L.I.P.S about the SECR P class?
It all that Per-Southern Loco,Wagons and Equipment, The Bulebell Railway is in there back yard
Bluebell is the perfect home for all preserved SECR engines
or just southern/oddities stock ijn general
Didn't the O1's come first though?
I hope theres a Captain Baxter video next, definitely one of my favorite locos
Beautiful engine! Great video!
This was one of the two engines running on my visit to the Bluebell a few years ago. (847 the was the other.) :)
I rode behind this locomotive, and I totally agree about that cab, the wood trim inside is excellent!
I really like your closeup shots of this loco, there's so much incredible painted detail that's best appreciated up close.
It's not wood. It's scumbled paint. Looks like wood grain but its all steel
@@highdownmartin Oh, it is? My mistake - When I got a look around the footplate, I assumed it was just thin woodwork. Was that a typical SECR thing?
Id say it's more of a period decorative technique than something the Chatham did to its engine cabs. It's the only antique engine at the bluebell to have that applied and your certainly not the only person to have seen it as wood. Lots of coaches there have it applied, over wood, but it can make plain boring panels look like varnished raw wood teak or oak or pine or whatever you want check out UA-cam for scumbling tutorials. Quite interesting glad you enjoyed your visit. I'm a fireman there. Been on the H many times
Here's a 360 of the cab I shot 3 years ago - www.360cities.net/image/cab-interior-of-h-class-n-263.
Is it mahogany?
Are gonna do a Sole SLIP on the Stroudley E1?
Since the Bluebell now connects to East Grinstead, perhaps it's a little more of a home for this beautiful tank engine. But at the same time, with 4 other SECR engines at the railway and a fifth being built, it wouldn't be right for it to move elsewhere. Great video!
I would have ridden behind this engine on the East Grinstead (High Level) service to and from Three Bridges. There was quite a good service on this line in 1964, half hourly I think, and it was shared between the H class push-pull service and standard DEMUs. We used to wait for the steam service if a DMU came in, as the steamer would be next, and we enjoyed riding behind a steam train. I used to use my pocket money to ride these trains with friends from school, favourite trips were to Three Bridges and Rowfant, and Hartfield in the other direction.- the fares must have been pretty cheap then.
It does indeed belong there. It is a lovely tank engine.
Diesel Locos in Profile.. *Cough* question mark?
EG did try one that has been taken down: DEATH; but it doesn't have the same potential as SLIP. Still, I'd be interested in seeing something like that.
Do you think you can do an episode of sole slip on the GSR K2?
Years built:1904-1915
Can you do a SOLE SLIP on the sr q class at the bluebell railway?
epic
I saw this engine when I was at the Bluebell Railway in August 2018.
Metaphors I can do without: Comparing steam locomotives to animals ( especially dogs ).
Hi Chris do you have any plans to make any more Sole Slips?
The Bluebell Railway has had four tank engines who hailed from the SECR. 263 is not one of those that Stepney mentions in his Railway Series appearance.
Yes just yes
Will you (eventually) do one of a American steam locomotive like 1225?
The O1 has an Hclass boiler not the other way around :)
The point remains the same. They share the same boiler. End of
Welcome to the bluebell
1000. must. come. next.
Hi Chris could you do a slip on J94 “Wilbert” at the Dean Forest railway
Hi
My crew and I already made a SLIP on the Austerity saddletanks on SLIPs Volume Four. It's available via the online shop linked in the description.
Haych class?
This makes me wish this was Thomas's basis.
Is that all??? Disappointed it was such a short video for such an interesting engine.
Pleasepleasepleaseplease do a 2857 sole slip
Way ahead of you, buddy. As it happens, 2857 features on SLIPs Volume Two in the 2800s film
