My failed attempt at a 1 stone hone on the coticule

Tried to do a 1 stone hone on my current coticule. The stone did not have enough cutting power/slurry to bring the edge up to its normal coticule finish. More slurry could have been a solution. At the moment, I don't have a softer coticule that would work as a good slurry stone. Using the 8k for just a short bit greatly improved the edge and saved time.
In the video, I spoke some about the performance of coticules. My, probably controversial, opinion is most coticules won't be that great at 1 stone honing. I think most stones will either be too slow (due to size or cutting power) or unable to finish at the level I enjoy. Will note I prefer a sharper edge and these are just my opinions.

That’s a beautiful stone, not all coticules one stone hone well. The finer and harder, the less well rounded the Cotucules is. My really hard fine stones need a fair bit of pressure and slurry. My hardest stones usually get delegated to 2 stone hones. I go fast coti to fine coti. I have found pressure and slurry is key early on for a fine coti, for one stone hone success. It’s a really fun exercise that I enjoy, you win some and you lose some.
Great video! I would love to see another video with a different slurry stone or different coticule. I’m new to the hobby but I guess I’ve been lucky with coticules but most of them are the generic standard or select from AC… just now getting a vintage one so let’s see if I’m not happy with that one.
Think I have a video of my other coticule in use somewhere on my channel. If I get a new stone though I will definitely make a video on it. Waiting for the right one to pop up

Only just discovered your channel 😊 and subscribed....coticule work for me is so dependent on the stone ? But its the only one stone honing I would trust . Generally it's a suck it and see for every stone ? 😂. ...valiant effort, you really went to town on it ! ( I get visible swarf on all my coti's , make em work hard 😅, I work the blade edge under water untill the blade sticks properly ?.) Thank you so much for sharing 🙏.
